Solution! LED DRL's and LED turn signals

Hello Everyone,

FYI Vleds now has a harness adapter for our 2015 Genesis sedan that address the reverse polarity issue with the switchbacks (you may have to contact Vleds via phone to get the harness). I've installed them on my car and works great. The total install took about 1-2hours. If you're handy, it's really a peace of cake.

Just installed my new PIAAs. They look great. One thing I did different was remove the air filter box. Just unsnapped the 4 clips that hold the top on and pulled it out. Took about 10 seconds and gave me more room. Thanks to the many people that have contributed to this thread.

Is this what you installed?

Does anyone know if these will work on the 5.0 Ultimate?

Yup, those are the ones.

You can now also purchase the KDM dual projector headlights that includes the led turn signal strip.

But wow... that $1,999 price tag is crazy. That costs more than the Prada Full LED Headlights I had before which looks much better.

I know this thread is mostly about an LED white DRL / amber turn signal alternative, but I wanted to share why I actually went with the "crazy" $2k Dual HID option. I'm no expert, but a couple years ago I ended up doing a full, dual HID retrofit to my conversion van:

http://www.hidplanet.com/forums/showthread.php?45606-2005-GMC-Savana-Conversion-Van-Quad-retro

I really liked (and still do like) the results and just wasn't happy with any of the LED options in this thread. I also think the quad projectors give the Genesis a more sporty/aggressive look. So, I did it and am very happy with the results. These KDM Dual HIDs are pretty high quality in my opinion. When you consider the costs of the components, they are really not that over-priced. When I received my new headlights, I took some pictures and here's what you get:

2 x Osram 10R-034663 Xenaelectron ballasts (for low beams). I'm seeing them used on ebay for $70 each, and new for $225/pair with bulbs, so call it $100 each new.
2 x Osram 10R-044663 Xenaelectron ballasts (for high beams). Same thing, about $100 each new.
4 x Osram Xenarc D3S 66340HBI bulbs. With all my searching I couldn't determine if these were the same as the 66340CBI bulbs, but those go for $260/pair on The Retrofit Source. The lights look plenty white to me when on.

Osram is top notch, renowned for their bulbs. The total cost then, of the equipment above is $960, nearly half the total cost, which leaves $500/each left per light for the LEDs and harness. Yes, it's still a LOT, but maybe not quite the ripoff at first glance. I love the white LED DRLs and how they turn amber for the signals. Now I'll be looking to sell my "nearly new" factory single HID headlights which were only on the car 5 days. Who knows, maybe I'll get $500 for the pair from a lower spec Genesis owner that wants to upgrade their halogen projectors to HID projectors, which would lower my cost on this mod. Anyway, just my 2¢ of input on what drove my decision to do the "upgrade". Was kinda scary removing the front bumper on a new car, but overall it was a pretty easy mod.

Did you happen to get a "before" picture to go with the "after"? I wasn't patient enough to wait till the next day and changed mine at night.

I realize this thread is mostly about finding an LED white DRL / amber signal alternative, but I went ahead with the "crazy" $2000 Dual HID mod and here's why.

1.) It was plug and play, with the exception of adding a hot lead to each headlight. No drilling, no baking your lights, etc.; it just works. I'm no expert, but did do a quad HID projector retrofit to my conversion van a couple years ago and really liked (and still have the vehicle) the results.

It was a LOT of work and I didn't relish the thought of modding the existing headlight housings when a plug and play option was available.

2.) The cost is high, but these are pretty high-tech, high-spec lights. Consider that you get 2 x Osram Xenaelectron 10R-034663 ballasts (for low beams) and 2 x Osram Xenaelectron 10R-044663 ballasts (for high beams) and 4 x Osram Xenarc D3S 66340HBI bulbs. I couldn't find any documentaion on the 66340HBI bulbs vs. the 66340CBI bulbs but they look plenty white to me. Those bulbs run $260/pair at The Retrofit Source, while the ballasts are about $100 each new (on eBay). Osram is great kit so the street cost for just the 4 ballasts and 4 bulbs is about $960. That leaves about $500/each for the headlight and LEDs. Still a LOT, but maybe not quite the ripoff at first glance.

3.) I just didn't like the look of the amber DRLs, and the VLED solution in my opinion is only slightly better. The quad projectors give the car a much sportier/aggressive look in my opinion. I love the light output, as well as the white DRLs and how they turn amber for signals.

4.) I'll now try to sell my factory single HID projectors that were only on the car for 5 days. Maybe I'll get $500 for the pair from someone with a lower spec Genesis that wants to upgrade their halogen projectors to HIDs. That would lower the cost of this admittedly expensive mod.

Well, it was a bit scary taking the front bumper off a brand new car, but overall it was a fairly simple upgrade. But that's my 2¢ on why I did it!

Pics?

I knew someone would ask! Tried a couple in my garage but the lighting was awful. I'll try to get a few outside and post em' up. Lots of road salt up here already so she's not looking the cleanest at the moment, being black and all. I just noticed too that the side reflectors are white/silver, not amber. I'm neutral on that but I know some guys like to "amber out" their front reflectors.

my thoughts on this whole thing....we shouldn't be having to hack up the headlights on a brand new 50k car. Hyundai screwed the US when they decided not to have LED DRL. the same LEDS that outline the headlight lenses. these worthless yellow amber DRLs are a joke and look like crap. I talked to the service dept about it and they said it wasn't just a simple software update, its a wiring change....most likely totally different headlights.

I see these dual projector ones from Korea...but I'll be damned if I'm spending 2000 dollars on some headlights that should have been on the car to begin with.

it wasn't enough to stop me from buying the car...but damn man every other high end luxo car out there has daylight surround LED DRLs. get with it Hyundai...geesh!

I'll be glad to what for a 3rd party to design a simple plug and play solution that doesn't void any warranty. I'll gladly pay a couple hundred for it.

I really don't believe anymore what the dealership says , it can't be done, needs to change whole wiring, it won't fit etc. I have personal very good relationship with local Hyundai dealer and also with tech manager, he said about the fog lights same thing , it can't be done, the wiring for fog lights is not there, the wiring harness from 3.8 AWL won't fit bla bla bla. Everything is there, fog lights fitted as glove on hand , wiring harness with fog light switch as well.
Either they don't know it, or just telling you that it can't be done to avoid extra work and if they do for one customer , possible there will be more coming in with same request, really don't know why they say that, but I lost my believe in the dealership tech, and he was tech manager, not dealer who sells the cars!!!
Also same thing about the key fob, they say the key card won't work, I bought brought in, took them 5 min to program!!!

Thanks for the input on this mod. It was very helpful and photos are worth a lot of dialogue. Well done. I tried to find a way to replace the existing holder with a 3 wire holder and a switch back bulb but could not get past the ECU doing the switching without a lot of rewiring so thanks to the original post from Jeff Thomas I think. Waiting for the plug and play Vleds to arrive. The fogs may have to wait until the after market or Hyundai make a kit. The eBay offering of the lights suggested the bumper has to be cut to accommodate the leds. Anybody tackled this one yet?:)

No need to cut anything. The fog lights fit perfectly. Turns out that there is even wiring set up already. Just need get wiring harness and stalk with fog light switch from AWD 3.8. I wired directly , so they stay on all the time with DRL

What is the part number for the harness? Also, my AWD has DRL switch on the stalk, not a Fog Light Switch. The existing switch turns the yellow DRL's on/off. Is there a way to utilize that switch for the fog lights?

I meant Canadian 3.8 AWD or US 5.0, but as it was discussed earlier that 5.0 might not fit. I kinda little busy right now for rewiring the whole thing, but I will do it, most likely after New Years Eve, I started some inquiries in Korean folks who sells the MOBIS parts, but it's on hold right now, so I am not really sure if the 5.0 stalk fits.
The Canadian 3.8 AWD has the fog light switch, here is whole thread in discussion about it
