On the Genesis Coupe I owned, I had base brakes (Single piston fronts and rears) and it sucked. Back then I grabbed a front set of four piston calipers off of a 2009 4.6 Sedan and it was pretty much a bolt-on affair. Much improved braking. I never did the rear, as it required a new caliper and mounting bracket to accommodate the slightly thicker (And vented!) Sedan rotor and I did not think that little difference would of done much.
However, on the front, I was limited to Sedan pads and Sedan rotors and over time found the choices quite lacking.
Fast forward to today, and I'm getting ready for the Sedan's maiden voyage on the Tail of the Dragon in April and wanted better brakes. So what did I do?
Yup, I went out and bought Brembo calipers off of a Genesis Coupe. Here's why:
- Much larger pad and rotor selection
- Monoblock design
- Lighter than the front Mando 4-piston calipers (Reduced unsprung weight!)
- Slightly larger diameter rotors (10mm larger on front, but 4 lbs lighter each! 16mm larger on the rear, but 4 lbs heavier each)
- Clears factory 18" wheels
- Looks damn good
Front fitment is guaranteed, rear I'm not sure of (Since I never did the Sedan rears on my Coupe). Over the coming weeks we will see.
