Smart card key cut

I know there is a thread on the smart card already but I am more interested if anyone has found a dealer that is able to cut the keys. I am in Houston, TX and the dealers I contacted could not cut the key or werent to sure if they could do it. Has anyone found a dealership that was able to acutally cut the key. Even if it's in another state. If anyone has gotten the key cut, can you post the dealership information to see if I can contact them to get my key cut.

Anybody try having it cut at a locksmith yet?
 
I am in Charlotte NC and talked to 2 dealers. They say the key is too thin for the laser.
 
The hard key can be bought off of eBay (I got mine for $15 bucks). If you can find a locksmith that has a "sidewinder" key duplication machine they will be able to cut the key for you (I paid $35 to have the new key cut) :D

Are you talking about the standard key offered on the standard fob? The thread here is about the smart key which is a credit sized car fob which houses a much thinner key which seems to be impossible to have cut.

i guess i can try to find a locksmith that may be able to duplicate it. wish me luck
 
Is it possible to put a piece of shim stock between the key and the locating surface on the machine to make it thicker? Just a thought.
 
A local (Buffalo) locksmith was able to cut my card key. He used shims for vertical alignment and only cut the right side. I contacted him, and he is willing to cut local keys. The company name is Bob's Lock and Key (716) 937-0221. He is hesitant to do business by shipping. Perhaps you can persuade him to do so.

Did only cutting right side allow full functionality? Open door, lock glovebox etc.?
 
yes, it works in both. Apparently grinding both sides of a key is equivalent to grinding both edges of a standard key, which allows the key to be inserted either direction.

Got my card Monday and had it and both FOB's programmed Monday afternoon ($150.00). Tried to cut the key but the bit wouldn't go deep enough. I made a shim from old feeler gauge (.039 inch). Used a .019 and .020 feeler and ground to size of blank key. Dealer tried with my shim. Cut just one side and depth was near perfect but could not duplicate pattern exact enough to work. I cleaned it up freehand with a diamond bit dremel. It works door and trunk but still problems with glove box. May try to tweak in future.
