Fog Lights Bulb Size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Yeah, i have removed and installed them about 20 times. i have also adjusted 20 times as well. I dont get it...

This morning I was headed back from getting breakfast at Hardees when a cop flashes his HIGH beams at me. I knew exactly why.

I'm gonna see what Hyundai can do and then if that dont work ill go with the black vinyl sticker. I simply love the look so the bulbs are staying in!

Re: Fog lights bulb size

From the close up pics this seems like it may look pretty nice. Either of you have pics of how it from a bit further back so we can see how it looks in relation to the whole car?
(perhaps from one or two positions like head on or a bit from the side). Also, night shots would be great too if you've got em.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Here's some photos I took this evening. I am very pleased with the yellow foglight look. Not sure if the photos totally capture it.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Just curious.

Did you run into the aiming problem that PINGGOLF did? Not aimed too high?

I did not find I had any issues with alignment. Placing the car 6ft infront of the garage door, there is a clear white light band from the HID head lamps and a clear (and lower) yellow band from the fog lamps.

Have not had anyone flash me either when driving at night.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Looks great Matt!

Glad yours turned out good! Still working on mine. I've been out of town over the weekend.

Funny thing happened this weekend. The wife and I stopped at a Pizza hut in Memphis and while we were sitting there a van pulled up next to the Gen. Everybody hopped out and began checking out the car. We had just paid and so we began heading out the door when the driver of the van saw us unlock the car he asked if it was our BENTLY!!!! and the wife said YES!! HA! She never really heard exactly what the man asked...I was slow to correct her but I told him it was OUR Genesis.

Just wanted to share that with ya!

To PINGGOLF: Were you ever able to resolve your high-aiming H8 replacement issue?

To PINGGOLF: Were you ever able to resolve your high-aiming H8 replacement issue?

No...I have not.

I plan to go to the dealer to see if they can straighten them out.

The right one was simple...just turn the dial...but the left...EEEEkKK

I turn the dial all the way up and all the way down and it only moves an inch and points ABOVE my HID cutoff.

Maybe they will replace the housing...I HOPE!

Ill keep you posted on the fix.

Re: Fog lights bulb size

Do I understand you correctly; that you were able to properly aim the passenger side "fog" lamp using the adjusting gear at the rear of the housing? But were unable to properly aim the driver's side lamp? Is it your opinion, then, that we can eliminate any "bulb geometry" issues and focus on the housing itself?

Yes. You are correct. I think mine has turned into a housing issue. I swapped the bulbs out (passenger to driver) and the drivers side was still above the HID cutoff and would only move about an inch when turning the gear on the rear of the housing.

No, I want a hot trophy wife, an easy, legal multi-million dollars a year job and everything spam promises.

I couldn't care less about pics of a fog light installation :D

I agree considering that you pull the plug of the bulb, turn it counter clockwise a quarter turn and pull the bulb out.

Re: Fog lights bulb size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

****UPDATE****

Im sure most of you are aware of my foglight issue.

I have just returned from the dealership with $388.52 LESS in my checking account.

LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE!!!

Obviously, the chrome reflector in the housing is made of HAIR THIN plating and there is so much LOW-TEMP plastic that my extra 10 WATTS of light output MELTED all of the internals of the housings in both lights. I think I have found the first EL-CHEAPO skimpiness of a Hyundai vehicle.

To preface this...I am a lighting guru. I know what is safe and what will cost you more money in the long run when it comes to overpowering wire harnesses and relays. Three of my past rides were HID retrofitted (the right way), and I upgraded the fog light harnesses and relays to handle the wattage (heat). I have NEVER had an issue with the housings...until now.

To everybody: when it comes time to replace your fog lights...DO NOT go any higher in wattage that what is OEM. Like I mentioned earlier, I only went up 10 watts.

Once the new housing assemblies arrive I will post detailed pictures of what exactly happened. It is almost scarry. At the top of the passengers side light there is a DRIP that is a few mm above the bulb itself. Had that drip of plastic contacted the bulb...EEEEEKKKK...i dont even want to think about what could have happened.

SO, now I am going yellow HID's in the fogs. They draw half the wattage of the OEM bulbs. To be honest, I am almost a little scared to have the stock bulbs in there now because they get just as hot.

Anywho, again, LEARN FROM MY COSTLY MISTAKE!!

Re: Fog lights bulb size ****CRITICAL UPDATE****

LEARN FROM MY COSTLY MISTAKE!!

wow, pinggolf, sorry to hear about your fog light housings! at least, like you implied, they didn't explode or catch fire while driving! what a pain in the butt. i wouldn't have thought that 10 extra watts of energy would drive the heat output up enough to start melting things. since it does, there obviously isn't much of a margin for heat above stock, and I'm with you to be concerned about even the 35W bulbs now.

i've looked at the H11(b) bulbs out there that have the same base but 55W bulbs. i decided against going with them for this very reason. glad i did, wow.

i really want to replace the stock bulbs with HIDs, but i'm just not sure yet if it's worth the trouble... b/c if i replace the fogs, them i'm just going to have to replace the main HIDs to match. and i really want to do that, but don't quite trust myself to go ripping the bumper cover off.

since the current draw is less for the HIDs, would you need to change out the wiring harness for the fogs, mains?

sorry again, man, but thanks for the info!

How many degrees do you figure that extra 10 watts added? I'm wondering what owners in Phoenix are going to do in the summer when the ambient temp is much higher!

Fog is much less common in low humidity climates, so I don't think people in Phoenix would need to worry.

JONAH!!!

Fancy meeting you here! HA!

I NEVER would have thought we would meet the way we did. My wife and I are in Olive Branch, MS for a baby shower that my inlaws are hosting for us. We drove up this evening and they told us that we HAD to go eat at this fancy Japanese restaraunt...so we did. We are staying at the Fairfield Marriot next door.

We eased over to the shopping center and as I whooped in the parking lot I saw this amazingly beautiful Genesis parked all by its lonesome and for some reason my Gen steered to the spot right next to it.

Of course, I had to do my part by inviting the owner to GENESISOWNERS.COM, so I left a little note in the widow. Well, I came back to my Gen to find out it was YOU!!! JONAH!!!!

Even though we did not meet, I felt as if we did. It was a pleasure to meet you Jonah!

Well, to stay on topic, I now have 2 things I want to try for the fogs.

1.) http://www.lamin-x.com They sale some film for the housings. Not specifically for the Gen but they make small sheets that you can cut. Before COLORED GLASS bulbs were out, we use to take YELLOW plastic wrap (celaphane) and wrap the housing to get the yellow look. It is ultra cheap, and worth a try. It is so thin that I dont think it will AID in heating the housing up.

2.) you can find HID at around 3000k for anywhere between $50-110 on EBAY.com.

Again, I am now skiddish of the stock bulbs and so I will probably go on and get the HID's. You will not need to change out the stock harness for the HID's. Actually, you will add a small harness to it with the HID kit. The install is super easy.

Ill keep you posted over the next few weeks.
