I finally had some time to get this upgrade done, after the Mrs tires were all but gone, plus I was sick and tired of the 2009 4.6 wheel flaking issues, even after resurfacing them twice!.

Upgrade one (the easy one ;))

The Mrs got a nice upgrade from 18” to 19” (standard issue):

Since she is going to inherit the R-Spec in couple of years or so, I was left with the dilemma of finding a ‘delicate’ set of wheels with a little presence. In the end, I settled on a Niche EYNO 20” Black with Machined Face and Double Dark Tint staggered setup, wrapped in a nice FALKEN ZIEX ZE950s (20x245x40 and 20x275x35 for the back) .

Got them installed today and I must say these pictures don't do them justice:

What I found so special about these wheels, is the way they catch and reflect the light! Where by, looking at them directly they are almost silver and they get progressively darker if viewed from an angle.

While I was at it, I could not help but remember that “OCD” thread and how the back calipers looked silver! therefore, that had to also be addressed at the same time, but finding something equally special. In the end I settled on a custom engraved caliper covers:

Then I thought, the front had the LED upgrade, the sides got the royal treatment, might as well get give the back a little touch while I was at it..

It was one of those times, ‘in for a penny...’ but I think the results were worth it..

Awesome setup, this car was made for this very wheel and tire size(s). What a wild coincidence we got the wheels installed on the same day, haha. Cheers!

I'm just not a fan of black or mostly black wheels, but, sounds like you made a good decision for yourself.

That is the thing, at 90 degrees angle the face of the wheels are silver, but they are face machined is such a way that when viewed from any angle, they somehow get progressively darker!

I tried to show that effect in the last picture, but unfortunately, it was overcast that day, so I only took some quick pictures.

As soon as I have some time, I will try to take some more proper pictures with a nice video to demonstrate that this setup does not cause any type of 'rubbing' even under extreme driving conditions.

More importantly, I now agree with others, this exact wheel setup, 8.5 front and 10 for the back, with 245 40 20" for the front and 275 35 20" for the rear, is perfectly suited for the R-Spec, here are some quick impressions so far after a 1000 mile round trip last weekend:

1 - There is a slight but perceptible change to the driving dynamics of the R-Spec.
2 - the steering is about 15% heavier.
3 - The car feels more connected to road by as much as 20%.
4 - body roll decreased by as much as 10%.
5 - Oversteer under extreme driving conditions is completely cured.
6 - I am unable to make the rear tires break loose under full acceleration from a complete standstill.
7 - The speedometer is bang on when compared to the GPS, while in the past it was 1-1.5% faster that the GPS.

Some of these changes maybe due to the larger surface area of the new rubber (Falken ZIEX ZE950), but I believe that the wheel diameter change and the smaller side wall may also have contributed to these changes.

Look great David!

Thanks tailwalker, they worked out alright from a visual appeal, I noticed people park a little further away and got few complements, but more importantly, I am very happy with the ride quality upgrade, it allows me to push the limit a bit more.... Now I can't wait for that ECU 5.0 crack/ power upgrade ;)

Front: 8.5 / R20 245 40, offset +35
Back: 10 / R20 275 35, offset +40

With four step paint treatment, everything dressed up inside and out, it was worth every penny..

Looks good!

I'm curious about your Axiom, though!

Thank you for the complement.

The Axiom, has been a model of reliability for the last 12+ years, so she is getting on a bit, but she still goes when you get on the gas with that lively 3.5 direct injection 250hp engine!

When the time comes, she will be replaced by probably a very lightly used fully loaded Infiniti QX60...;)

Hey David!

Both rides looking great! I actually have some Niches coming with the same sizes & fitments that you have, and I am stoked!

Still liking the look and ride quality? I am happy that I am finally getting the proper wheels on this beast! Always found it weird that a 429 HP RWD car came stock with 235s.

Thanks for sharing! No just need to selll my stock RSPEC wheels so I can have a great story for my wife about how I got an offer that I just couldn't refuse!

Thank you for the complements. I am sure you are going to love yours as I do mine.

I still appreciate how the light catches these particular set of wheels, they may not be for everyone, people either love them or don't, but either way, they still do command respect because everyone seem to give me plenty of room around my parking space.

Overall I am very pleased with the staggered 20" setup, beyond making the car a little more substantial with a slight aggressive stance, the extra surface area does provide that bit extra grip and control which translates to a better, slightly sportier ride without being too harsh over uneven road surfaces.

The Falken tires do an admirable job in most driving conditions, although I would have preferred them to provide slightly better performance under extreme weather conditions (ex: heavy rain). IMO, they do appear to be one notch below the cooper AS/3, which in turn is slightly behind the Michelins pilot sport AS/3 (YMMV)...

If you do not mind me asking, which set did you get? Niche does seem to be getting more popular, at least in our little community. :)

Please post some pictures when you get your set installed...

Engine bay is spotless. What did you use to clean all of the covers?

Thanks for the additional info! I am finally going for the look that I have always wanted, but have always chickened out on at the last second!

2014 White Rspec with Bronze M158s. So excited, I think it is going to look killer!

This picture sold me on the color combo, although these are 22"s.

Brave choice my man! :D

I think it is going to be a nice and unique combination.

Although this wheel configuration is not 100% accurate. I used it just to help my imagination a bit;

Engine bay is spotless. What did you use to clean all of the covers?

You know, I did not ask them which product they used this time around! But in the past they used Meguiar's products.

They did a wonderful job as always, complete with 4 stage paint treatment, full leather conditioning as well as full engine bay treatment.

I take my cars there around once a year as they do allot more thorough job than my own treatment every four months or so.

I try to stay safe and use a combination of Meguiar's and Mothers products. Here is what I followed the last time I did it myself during the summer:
