If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hankooks now a safety recall.

Re: Problems with the NEW TIRES

Is anyone having problem with the replacement tires after the Hancock recall? My car drove so smooth until they put these on. Bounce starts at 60 and gets worse the faster I go. Not a shimmy felt in the wheel, but a slight bounce in my seat - you can see it in the visor and the passenger seat when unoccupied. Anyone else have issues with their new tires? Mine were fine before the recall!

Yes, I think many people are having or have had the same issues. In my case it took four separate trips to the dealer and I am still not entirely satisfied. Make sure that your wheels were 'Road-Force Balanced' as this does make a considerable difference. This was a requirement from Hyundai, but many dealers (mine included) don't have the equipment and go with the standard balancing. My dealer eventually had this done at the Chrysler Dealer up the street!

After the road-force balancing, the highway vibration was improved, but the low-speed ride was still a problem. From cold the Michelins are far worse than the OEM Hankooks for flatspotting. The only time I noticed the flatspotting on the original tires is after leaving the car parked overnight and it went away quickly. With the Michelins, they flatspot after an hour or less and the vibration is far worse. It does go away after the tires warm up, but it is embarrassing to take people to lunch and have to explain why your 'luxury' car is jolting their spines on a smooth road.

I know my '16 was equipped with the Hankook tires, as I found that brochure in the glove box. The car had the Michelin's when I purchased it. The tires were way out of balance. I have a hunch the dealer (where it shipped from) just slapped on the tires without balancing them.

When I complained, the day after purchasing the car I was told to drive it for 500 miles. The car is at the dealer now and I was told they can only road force balance two of the four tires. I have a hunch that putting those 500 miles on the tires (out of balance) ruined them. Now I'm wondering about the other two they say they balanced.

Still waiting for the car as they are replacing the windshield that was distorted.

I had my Hankook tires replaced today at Discount Tire with the Continental Extreme Contact DWS 06. I had these on my 09 Genesis and was pleased with them. My out-the-door cost was $0.00 plus a mail-in rebate for a $70 visa card.

I had 28,500 miles on the Hankook's but they still had usable tread life on them (not for snow of course). They brought one of the Hankook's out for me to look at and you could see where the sidewall was separating. All in all, good timing on my part.

Thanks for sharing. Can you tell me how you managed that? I called my local Discount Tire today and had them look up the recall. They confirmed it and said no problem in doing it. What they're telling me though is it would cost me about $25/tire plus labor if I wanted to get the same tires you mentioned above. They said they get something like $150 for each Hankook tire as part of the recall. Then the Continental's are roughly $175/tire...plus labor.

That's what I was originally quoted but when I arrived for my appointment they said Hankook was covering everything.

Am very unhappy with the Michelin replacement tires and tried to get Hyundai to swap for Pirelli Cinturato P7 All season plus.
The Michelins produce more road noise than the Hankooks and ride less smoothly.
They refused to make any adjustments.
Next time I buy a car, I will spend my $50,000. elsewhere.

Ok, so I got to the bottom of the situation on how (if you haven't already gotten your recalled tires replaced) you get the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 tires for free. The reason I wanted to find out was because in this thread, most people who have went the dealership route and gotten then Michelin's have come back complaining.

I called 2 Discount Tire stores here in my city.

The first one said I could choose any tire I wanted but I would have to pay the difference in cost plus labor minus the $150 value per tire of the Hankook's. He told me this on my first and only call.

The second store I called collected all pertinent information from me and said that he'd call Hankook himself and see what they would do. He called me back 10 minutes later and said that they told him that they would pay for it all. I wanted to make sure so I asked him, "If I have you provide and install the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 tires, there will be zero cost to me?" He said that is correct.

So, long story short....you can go to any Discount Tire and get those Continental tires (which are supposed to be a fantastic tire) installed for zero dollars. If the guy you talk to at Discount Tire says otherwise, tell them to call Hankook and they should say that they will cover all expenses.

Does anyone know of a Discount Tire or other retailer in the Greater New York Metropolitan area that will do the tire swap? Don't want the MXM's from the dealer.

That's awesome info !!

I don't know why any regional or national tire store couldn't do what Discount Tire can. It's actually Hankook who is footing the bill so if it were me and there isn't a Discount Tire close to you, just call a place that is similar and ask them if they handle recalls. If they do then give them all your tire/recall information and tell them to call Hankook and I'm sure they'll be able to do the same thing that Discount Tire has done.

I wish I had known this before going with the Conti TX on my 5.0. Those tires suck and they are 1" + narrower than the Hankook's.

I just went to my local discount tire for the replacement today.
I don't know if my relationship actually helped as I've bought 5 set of tires from them this year. Originally when I went in they told me they would only credit me for the msrp of the Hankooks and I'll have to pay for tax and labor and the difference on another tire if I want something else. Then I asked about the new Michelin pilot A/S 3 plus and the conti DWS06 and P7 he made a phone call and actually got all 3 sets approved for me from hankook, he said hankook also said they will pay for tax and labor. Went with the michelins as I have the pilot super sports on my other car which I like a lot and they carried the highest price tag among the 3. My total out of pocket cost was $7(tire disposal fee).

I had the dealer install the Michelins MXM's; noisy rough riding tires. The only option for me is to swap with another Michelin model. The Premier doesn't seem to be an upgrade.
Guess I'm stuck with them

It must be a manufacturing thing given the wide ranging opinions we all have about the same tire, regardless of the brand.....making sure the Michelin replacements had the same 33psi cold pressure, I'm well satisfied....can't tell the difference from the Hankooks which I liked, except for the poor rain traction on the H's.

Had issues with the Electronic Parking Brake so the car is in the shop. I told them the Contis they just put on the car has worse flat spotting than the Hankooks and they are going to take a look at it. Will update when I get the car back. They gave me a V6 2016 Genesis base model as a free loaner. This car is a plain jane compared to mine. So glad I bought the V8 Ultimate for sure now.

The max summer tires would get even worse reviews from many who are not used to sport tires. Hyundai like most rotate several tire manufacturers as their OEM brands and may have knee jerked and went with the Conti's because of the tire insert which would appeal to the complaints of noise, etc.

Still waiting for replacement of the recall on the Ultimate, its been 6 weeks!
They did mention I would get Conti's and when i called this week said that they are currently waiting on Hyundai Canada. Did anyone else's recall take this long?

Had a set of Conti's on the 2012 RSpec (not sure which ones came with the car) and the flat spotting was bad but dispersed after driving for 5 mins. Agree with the taking clients for a ride comment.
