If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Has anyone come across a performance air filter and or a performance chip upgrade. I have had my Titanium Metallic Genesis since Sept, 11K miles so far, I am looking to add a little zip to the performance. Anything out there?

Thanks

Performance air filters increase horsepower by doing a poorer job of filtering the dirt out of the air, and are known to cause problems with most cars.
You have a 10 year power-train warranty, and an unauthorized ECU mod will void that warranty (as a high flow air filter might also do).

Aside from all of the above, my 3.8 is very quick, and I have to constantly throttle-back in order to avoid accelerating too fast or speeding.

Re: Performance enhanace for the 3.8 Genesis

Actually, K&N airfilters typically offer much better airflow characteristics while providing superior filtration. There are a bunch of "urban legend" sights out there that will tell you of the owner that "went with a higher flow air filter and the engine self destructed." Not liklely due to the air filter. So many myths. The truth of the matter is, with modern ECU's and variable valve timeing, the "self regulation" generally compensates for the increased airflow resulting in a minimal, if any, boost in performance.

I would take ANY opinions, whether positive or negative, with a grain of salt. Half the people say one thing, half the people say another. My opinion is that K&N filters won't do any harm. I'm a performance guy and in all the forums I participate in - I hear very little of these filters causing issues. I also hear very little "wow, my car is so much faster". So take that for what it's worth.

As for people wanting their car to be faster - to each his/her own. Some people have no idea why one would want their car to run to 60 in 5.5 seconds. Other people have no idea why one would NOT want to do so. It's all a matter of opinion - we all have our own opinions - and we're all entitled to them.

If you want to go faster in your 3.8 Genesis, than this is probably the place to ask. Hopefully we'll have better answers for you soon...

I've run K&N filters on all of the cars I've owned and never had a problem caused by them. Some of those cars I've driven close to 300k km with the same K&N filter in without problems. Most of the people I've seen that had problems with "washable" or "rechargeable" air filters had problems because they put too much oil on the filter after cleaning it and the oil would end up gunking the MAF sensor. A little cleanup of the sensor with some rubbing alcohol and they were back in business. RTFM.

I've contacted several CAI companies about parts for the Genesis 3.8. No intakes yet, but FUJITA said they're working on one currently. I also asked the service tech at my dealer about mods. He said lightweight pulley's, intake and cat-back is as far as the warranty will let you go. No chips, sorry dude. I had a custom cat-back built for mine. Removed the resonators put in an H-pipe then straight back to a pair of Magnaflows and the stock tips. I'll post a video after I pick it up. Should sound like a pissed off speed boat. I hope. Stay up boys.

Please let me know the progress and a short video with sound would be great.

thx

Try Road/Race Motorsports. They just released a crank pulley for the 3.8 motor. I purchased it and have seen a slight increase in acceleration. I would also recommend getting a better exhaust system. The stock system is very restrictive. 4 resonators, 2 cats and 2 mufflers. Get it replaced with something less restrictive. Other than that no other parts have been released. I rape the internet daily looking for more modifications. If you find anything, let me know. Dealer says no nitrous, no blowers, no turbos. So keep it simple.

I'd imagine getting the resonators cut off would add some power by limiting friction and add some attitude to the exhaust note as well.

Gents,

Attached is my dyno sheet from this past weekend. I went to a local shop (ART) on Saturday and we did 3 pulls. DSC off for all three and the factory air box off on the third. Transmission wouldn't hold the gear and kept shifting early so these are the best numbers I could get. Stock the car makes 246.5 WHP and 224.4 lb/ft of torque (Estimated from the 290/268 that is on the Genesis website. I did a 15% loss from crank to the rear wheels to get my WHP numbers for the stock car). On the dyno the average number was 255.6 WHP and 269.8 ft/lbs of torque. The crank pulley and exhaust added 9 WHP and 45 ft/lbs of torque! With an intake maybe a few more WHP would be possible. Holla. If you think my numbers are off lemme know and I'll adjust accordingly. Hope this is helpful.

Have you tried to contact Weapon R last time I checked they were looking for a Coupe V6 MT to do a dyno run on a prototype they made on an auto car for the SW CAI, but Im sure they were looking for a Sedan also! Never hurts to ask!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Oh man I totally would let them do R/D work on my sedan but I live in FL and if I'm right they're in CA. So that's a no go for me. Btw, love the signature.

I haven't had the opportunity to do my research yet on this. But are the V6 Genesis Coupes and the Sedans the same as far as setup in the vehicle? I haven't looked at length to see if the exhaust system is the same length, etc... I'm waiting on what the advertising prices are. But if they're exactly the same, I already have test pipes made. I'm working on an intake and exhaust system, but I'm needing a V6 sedan to play with.

That said, if the engine bay of the sedan and coupe is the same...we're working on a real nice goodie for you.

Here's our Genesis Coupe at SEMA this past year.

No, the engine bays are not the same. I believe that there also may be differences in the input or outout headers, not sure which. The engine horsepower ratings are different.

The intake manifolds are different between the coupe 3.8 and the sedan. Coupe makes 305 crank HP and the sedan makes 290 crank HP.

i see that you live in florida, i would love to hear your exhaust in person if you live within a reasonable distance from me (Delray Beach/Boca) or meet at like a halfway point. if not, please try to post a video on here. also where did you have your system done?

Sadly I don't have the time to meet you and let you hear it in person. Ill post a video of it later. Hopefully that helps you decide. I had mine built by a muffler shop locally. Charged me $350. Online the cat back I was looking at cost $1200. Was an easy decision for me to let the local guy do it (plus I like to keep my dollars flowing around my city). My biggest complaint is that my change rattles SO F***ING LOUD in the ashtray under slow acceleration. My solution was to put velcro inside the ashtray and that made it bearable.

What mufflers did the local shop use and how's the noise level in the cabin. Love a nice sound as long as it stays outside.

hey guys im trying to get a lower exhaust note on my 3.8 11 sedan tried removing the 2in/2out muffler behind the cats and sleeving the pipes sounds like a rotary mazda went to the good guys at gibson muffler and have ordered their superflow cft muffler to replace the one i took out they said to leave the resonators at the bumper tips alone and the sound should be close to a v8 will let you know also replaced the tips with korean auto imports european quads they look very close to the turbo porsche pipes
but are a little too big for the bumper openings and had to be wedged in might burn the paint but the look is worth the risk bud in sc
