  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hyundai Genesis - The Cons

From the research I've done and dealers talked to, you are dead on with Packs 1-4. The only other one is Pack 5, which is a loaded V8. There are no options there. Pack 4 is $40,000, Pack 5 is $42,000 so you pay $2,000 to get the V8.

No, you've missed the base V8 -- that's the V8 without Technology package. MSRP is $37,250 (or $38,000 with the destination charge). The next package is the V8 with Technology at $42,000 MSRP.

You're right! Sorry I missed that. The value of the forum to stamp out rumors is proven again. Thanks for the update.:o

I have a photocopy of an internal "cheatsheet" from my dealer that defines the package numbering system quite clearly. Pkg #1 is not specifically called out, but it's obviously a base V6. Pkgs 2 - 4 correspond to the previously listed upgrades for the V6 (Prem Pkg P2, Prem Pkg Plus P3 & Tech Pkg P4).

For the V8, Pkg #5 is again not called out, but it's an implied base V8, and Tech Pkg P6 is the one and only upgrade for the V8.

The list of what's in each package listed elsewhere in this forum appears to be correct based on a cursory glance.

Good opportunity to clear it up once and for all. Direct line to Hyundai USA rep bypass the queue. Couple minutes tops.

Hyundai USA at 800-633-5151 Cassie at extension 54652.

Made the call to Hyundai USA as suggested above, to discuss the coupon issue. Hoping of course to get Cassie! No such luck. Finally got through the call tree and connected with "Customer Service". They said they had to do the transfer of calls to internal extensions. Talked to a pleasant fellow [not the sharpest knife in the drawer] who assured me he never heard of Cassie and there was no such extension he could connect me to. So I was stuck with him in his cubicle, with apparently no training on anything. He was happy to tell me they had just put a Genesis prototype [from the car show circuit] on the front lawn of the office, "and it was really cool." He also indicated to me dealers might be getting some in 2-3 months! You can tell where this call was going... The good news is when I gave him the VIN for the vehicle I'm getting it actually came up on his screen! Something is actually tied together in the backoffice somewhere. The guy then responds [30 min into call] "you're buying a Genesis?" "How can that be, they told us they weren't coming for months." SURPRISE! He absolutely couldn't believe that not only did dealers have them, I had actually driven one. He promised to "escalate" my case, so we shall see if HQ can deliver on the coupon deal.:)

My drivers door developed a mild squeek when opening/closing the door about a week ago. WD40, Teflon Lubricant, and Lithium Grease have had no positive effect. If anything, they actually made it worse!

Re: Hyundai Genesis SQUEAK ?

Funny I have a squeak on my '06 Azera, both front doors when I open (hyperextend) them up all the way....they squeak. WD40 and lubricant did NOT fix the problem. This annoys the s#it out of me. I will check my GENESIS when before I pay for it and if I have the same problem..............it will be see ya later Genesis.

This may deserve it's own discussion.......

Another con:

-The chrome trim scratches way too easily. I use only the softest microfiber towels and have still managed to lightly scratch almost every chrome surface on the car in only 5 weeks of ownership! They're only visible if you are standing VERY close and are looking for it, but they're there. I noticed a Genesis at my local dealership had scratches on the chrome window trim already. :( FWIW, the chrome door handles and chrome wheel inserts (18" V6 wheels) seem to be holding up well with absolutely no scratching thus far.

Thank you for the warning! This definitely warrants it's own discussion! :)

The two 'cons' I've come up with so far are <1> dim cabin lighting (hopefully I can remedy that via user controls after I've waded through the manual), and <2> chrome strips around the doors that are magnets for fingerprints. Pretty minor stuff, happily, and more than offset by a long list of 'pros'!

Test Drove a Genesis today.

Dealer;
MSRP 36K 8K premium 44K. Loaded Azera has a rebate under 27K 17K difference No brainer!
Salesman doesn't know product. Told me Hyundai will not have the V8 until 2010. - Insisted the V6 had 375hp. - Told me that Mercedes has agreement with Hyundai to build their S Class interiors that is why Genesis is better.
I had to pass a credit check before driving. (might have been jeans and shirt I was wearing).

I was definitely wrong. Hyundai should have premium branded this car. Luxury dealers and salespeople only should have gotten this car.

I'm ready guys, go ahead and clobber me.

Pulling a credit check to drive is against the Fair Credit Reporting Act. There was NO permissible purpose for them pulling your credit report. You could sue or have a lawyer send a letter threatening to sue - you are entitled to at least $1,000 per violation.

Actually, it's not.

Pulling a credit report without your permission is a violation of the FCRA punishable by $1,000 fine per occurance plus damages (attorney fees, etc...).

That didn't happen here.

Whoa, I noted something tonight that won't affect me much, but may be a major irritant to those that are inclined to cruise at high speeds with their moonroofs open.

It's noisy!!

While I rarely open moonroofs above 30 MPH (I'd rather hear the stereo or the engine -- or a blend of both), this sucker emits a fairly high frequency hiss at 60+ MPH. I reached up and held down the pop-up bar that's intended to deflect the bulk of the air flow, and both the decibel level and frequency of the noise drops a bit, but it's still pretty damn loud.

Does my pop-up bar need Viagra, or can other owners with moonroofs verify my observation on this?

Thanks for the post. I have found very few cars that do not suffer from this problem including MB, Lexus and BMW. I personally do not like air conditioning a lot and perfer to drive with the sunroof open and rear windows open to create nice airflow. I have purchased sunroof wind deflectors for most of my cars. They really cut the noise. I also think that for some cars they can enhance the look of the car and give it a bit of a sportier presence. There is probably a bit of a gas mileage penalty associated with a sunroof deflector. I am anticipating ordering the factory wind deflector for the Genesis as I have found they tend to be of a bit better quality and should be designed to fit the car correctly. Would love someone to photoshop a wind deflector for us all to see how the Genesis looks with one on top.
