  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Love our new 2010 Genesis! Except for one small item. For the options and color we wanted the dealership in Michigan had to get the car out of Indiana. It came with the front license plate bracket mount to the front bumper. In Michigan we don't have to run a front license plate. If I remove it we would have three holes in the bumper. Dealership said that there are no plastics plug available. The only way to fix it is to fill the holes and repaint. Does anyone have any better ideas.

There are three things I miss about Michigan:

1. The ability to retain your vehicle title, instead of the bank holding it.
2. No front license plates.
3. Meijer's. :D

What color is it? It's not terribly expensive to have the bumper pulled and resprayed - if I could ditch the front plate, that's exactly what I would do.... but, if it's an oddball metallic color, I'm not sure the risk of it not matching perfectly would outweigh the two little holes.

Failing a repaint, I would get a vanity plate.

Folks have reported that paint shops can really accurately repaint, so that is definitely a good option. What probably won't be an option is any sort of spot painting, since you can almost never get a close match with metallic paints.

I live in mASS and have to use a front license plate but opt not to. I know it is against the "law" but WTF! I've never been pulled over before for it and believe in this state that it is not a $ ticket if you can put the plate on right then and there if the cop askes you to. I keep the plate in the trunk just in case. Been driving like that for 10 years now.

Anyway, my bumper had the bracket on it as well and there was holes from it. All I did to remedy it was buy some good stainless screws and plug them up. Here is a picture... Not completely ideal, but better than black holes.

Honestly, I think you can go one of two ways. You can take the bracket off and fill the holes with some bondo, sand it down and use some touch up paint, or put the plate on. It kinda of looks incomplete the way you have it, but that's just my opinion. I put on a chrome front license plate holder to spruce it up a bit, I think it matches the chrome on the grill nicely without being ostentatious.

Yeah, I hear what your saying. This is kind of my "get through the winter" and do something different later when the weather is nicer.

I don't think a DIY bondo job would hold up and you would probably make more of a mess with the sanding and such. It would take more than touch up paint too. You would have 5 holes to fill because the license plate screws go all the way through to the bumper as well... this was done by the previous owner.

I guess it depends how much patience you have and what types of access to tools and garages and such, as well as skill level. It obviously looks cleaner with no plate, and in all the car mags, that is how it looks of course. But in CA, it's the law here as well. The state is broke, and the man in in force to gain revenue. I haven't been pulled over in 12 years, so I'm not looking to do anything remotely gray area illegal.

City of LA is in the same boat. They're citing cars in the LAX airport lots that don't have front plates. Either you come back from your trip with a ticket on the windshield or one is mailed to you when the camera at the cashier booth sees that you don't have a front plate.

Mass is broke as a joke too.... We have waaay to many entitlement programs here.

Did you know that you can get a;

Free cell phone
Free car
Free car insurance
Free gas
Free housing
Free healthcare
Free schooling
Free food
Free clothing

...and you don't even have to clean up after yourself when your done using the above.

What a state and country we live in.

BACK ON TOPIC:

I have a vanity plate ordered. So maybe I'll put it on when it comes in.... Now that I think of it... my vanity plate probably went to pay for someones cell phone.

F it. I guess I'll put my vanity plate on. I was thinking of putting a euro style plate one but it would look weird on the Genesis I think. ...?

Anyone have tips on keeping the license plate free from rust? My old plate which was on the back of my car was rusted and discolored. It really made my new Genesis look like crap so thats when I got new plates. Maybe a lacquer or polly?

I'm in New Jersey and I wish we had no front plate. If I didn't have to run a plate and I have the mount I would run a custom black and chrome plate.

Hello Phase, :welcome:
First of all, congrats on your new Genny!
What part of Michigan are you from?
I'm in metro Detroit area.

Yeah, the front bumper thing was one of the main reason I strictly wanted to get the car from Michigan(as opposed to IL, IN, etc.).
They had the color combo I wanted anyway.

What color combo is yours?

I'm sorry to tell you that the best way would be to fill the hole and respraying the whole bumper. :(
But who wants to repaint a perfect factory finished bumper, right?
I know you're in a sucky situation here, but good luck with everything and enjoy your beautiful ride!

Dan
