If it was related to the recall for DOT-4 brake fluid, I believe it was the HECU (Hydraulic Electronic Control Unit) unit made by Continental, which controls the anti-lock braking system. The internal valves became too easily corroded, due to the metal platting used. The HECU may provide the same functionality as a master cylinder, not sure.
