Default Missing at Motor Trend Virginia (Richmond) Auto Show!

    Members don't see this ad
In their infinite wisdom, Genesis Motors took a pass on appearing at this weekend's auto show here in Richmond, VA. That's right, there were no Genesis signs, or vehicles, present!

The Hyundai exhibit was well done, however. Come to think of it, there was no Azera there either.

Cheap? Lazy? Disorganized? Clueless? What was Genesis thinking?

According to this site: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...tistical_Areas the Richmond VA metro area ranks 45th in the USA in terms of population. Do you expect Genesis Motors to show up at 50 auto shows per year? Maybe when they have a full slate of vehicles to sell, including SUV/CUV's.

Give me a break. If Genesis wants to sell, they need to go to the car shows.

There are three Hyundai/Genesis dealers in my area. Jaguar/Rover, Lexus, Infinity, BMW, Benz, Porsche and many more car dealers are located within 4 miles of my house.

I'd bash your home area too, but you've kept it a secret for nine years.

I am not bashing the income level of your area, just the total size. I am assuming that Genesis Motors thinks they are not big enough yet to go to the 50 top motor shows year. Maybe in a few years, when they have a full lineup of vehicles.

I live in a top ten metro area. It wouldn't bother me if you bashed it.

Lincoln, Cadillac, Acura, Infinity and Lexus were all at the show. If you want to compete directly against those brands, you have to be "present." Yes, Benz and BMW were there too.

As I mentioned, Genesis does not have enough models, and only a very small number of completely separate dealers in the USA. The rollout to a completely separate brand will take several years.

I believe that the job of HMA CEO is open right now, so maybe you should apply for the job. The GM of Genesis Motors America reports to the CEO of HMA.

lol what are you not understanding about what he is saying?? They don't have enough vehicles to show off (they have 3) so they want to utilize larger populated areas to present what little they are showing.

It wouldn't take much to cart around the current Genesis models, plus one prototype to each of the car shows. I could manage that in my spare time.

I don't think one can fault Genesis Motors for not spending marketing dollars. They just got finished being the title sponsor of the Genesis Open golf tournament (previously known as the LA Open) which cost them millions (which included a lot of TV ads). I am assuming that all the golfers got Genesis courtesy cars for the week.

Unfortunately, Dustin Johnson won the tournament in a cake walk, and there was a significant amount of rain during the tournament that messed up the schedule, so not sure what the TV ratings were. But Genesis Motors will remain title sponsor for the foreseeable future.

I also noticed the Genesis Motors was a prominent sponsor of last week's LPGA event (Women's Australian Open) last week. While watching on TV, I saw some Genesis models on display on the course, so I assume the women players also were driving Genesis courtesy cars.

I wonder how many non-golfers (most of us) fast-forward through those TV shows to watch the Genesis Motors commercials?

Genesis Motors has an uphill climb to make the public aware of their new brand. Invisibility at auto shows is not too smart because that's where car-lovers congregate.

While at the Virginia show I had a nice chat with a "hot buying prospect" (an older than me gent) inside a Lincoln MKX SUV. He said he loved the Hyundai Santa Fe Sport (my other car), but needed a prestige emblem on his car. Genesis Motors has no excuse, whatsoever, for not having a prototype on view equivalent to the Lincoln. Fer Gawd Sakes, somebody like Chip Foose could turn a Santa Fe into a worthy Genesis luxury product in 6 months, but it takes Hyundai/Genesis years! OK, maybe I should take that job at the top of Genesis Motors.
