The G80 Sport comes fully loaded only (basically the equivalent of Ultimate Package). The MSRP is not likely to come down, unless the universe starts shrinking instead of expanding.

I don't think he meant MSRP.

Dealerships are not owned by the manufacturer, but by individual investors or corporations (AutoNation, etc). They have to invest at least several million dollars to start a dealership. If you that kind of money and want to own a dealership, I would contact Genesis Motors USA.

A dedicated dealership cannot be profitable with only the G80 and G90. Within the next 2-3 years, Genesis will add the G70 small sedan, and two SUV/CUV's. These days, even Lexus sells more SUV/CUV's than sedans.
    Based on what you say
Its hard to believe Lexus made it the first several years
Just two sedans with dealerships and service proposition that were as good as the German dealers

    2017 Sales YTD

    G80 - 3,952 (another 698 of Genesis sales)
    A6 - 3,678
    Q70 - 1,962
    GS - 1,695
    XF - 1,285
    RLX - 293

Think the G80 is doing just fine against the likes of the GS (which is rumored, again, to be on the chopping block) and the addition of the G80 Sport should only increase sales (or, at the very least, keep G80 sales from slipping against its competition even as more and more buyers switch to crossovers).
You need to compare the G80 to the likes of cars like the 3 series and C class

You have no idea how many people bought the G80 because they could not afford many of those more expensive cars on your list

The other thing is that the feature set ( and customization options)on the G80 are much lower than some of the cars on your sales list

Your other point about crossover/SUV segment growing is true while the luxury sedan market shrinks
But several cars that you omitted...the Germans...still seem to be doing pretty well

Not in the same segment by any means...but in the United States
But Mercedes has sold about the same amount of $100+K S class cars as Genesis has sold G80's to date
They have sold about 4,000 a month of the E class and about 7,000 a month of the C class

BMW has sold about 3000 a month of the 5 series and 6000 a month of the 3 series

The BMW 3 series and Mercedes C class are in the same price range as the G80...so that means a large majority of luxury sedan buyers, in the same price range, are buying the Germans by a large margin

I saw the Sport model on the floor of the New York auto show. Except for Genesis owners who have an interest in the cars, I doubt anyone would take notice of the model as opposed to the regular 3.8 Genesis. IMHO the Hyundai Genesis rebadged Genesis G80 is overdue, despite dating onl to 2015, for a total remake. There's just nothing special about the car to attract people to the new brand. Of course, a compact and mid sized crossover are far more important if the brand is to survive.

BTW, I know I'm in the minority, but when I saw the original Genesis in 2008 at the NY Auto Show I felt a passion and bought one when they went on sale in 2009. To date my car has only 32,100 miles and I absolutely love the car. The second generation left me cold. My personal tastes have changed and when I do decide to trade it'll be for a crossover. I'll be cross shopping Santa Fe and whatever Genesis offers.

Look at the content of the car. The Sport basically has the Ultimate content + some goodies.

That was a different era, more than 25 years ago. Also, back then, SUV's were basically a pickup truck, and not all that popular. There were no CUV's. Today, the majority of Lexus models sold are either an CUV or SUV.

Maybe, but how does he know what the selling price is for a G80 Sport, if he hasn't seen one for sale yet?

Mmm, no. G70 will be in the same class as BMW 3 series and Mercedes C-Class. G80 is in the same class as BMW 5 series and E-Class Benz

FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif., April 20, 2017 – Genesis today announced pricing details for the 2018 G80 Sport luxury midsize sedan starting at $41,750. ---------Perhaps command of the English language needs to be reviewed - copied & pasted from article

It is a bit misleading but not terrible. By my reading, what they are saying is all G80s are "sport luxury sedans" which you can further enhance over base models with options such as a V8 and a separate sport package. It is like BMW's "M sport" package, BMW would argue their 3 and 5 series are sport sedans yet there is a separate package to increase the sport factor if desired.

Yes, very poor English. Only a detailed reading of the price sheet, with standard equipment and option packages reveals what is really going on.

Virtually everything about the Genesis Motors website is very poor IMO. On the basis of their crappy USA website since the Genesis brand was created, I would fire the Genesis Motors USA General Manager if I had any say.
