Timing a 2015 or 2016 Ultimate V6 purchase

Seems like the manufacturing of 2015 will come to a close soon. Although I would like to pull the trigger soon, it seems that waiting a little longer will help on getting better deals on 2015. On the other hand waiting another month or two I could get a 2016 albeit not as big a bargain. Any insights? Thanks....

What makes you think that the 2016 Genesis will be available in the USA in a few months, rather than this fall?

I believe that for all 2016+ Hyundai vehicles the audio/video/nav system will be under the 5 year - 60K mile New Vehicle Warranty (instead of a 3 year - 36K mile coverage for 2015 and prior years):

The following components are covered for time and mileage limits indicated:

• Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system and Bluetooth®): for MY 15 and prior, 3 years/36,000 miles—Equus: 5 years/60,000 miles
• Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system and Bluetooth®): for MY 16, 5 years/60,000 miles for all models

I would wait to see what the 2016 DRLs look like.

I recommend you wait too as it can only get better... Any little bugs found in the 2015 will be improved upon in the 2016 MY.

I read something on the forum about production has or soon will stop on the 2015. I figured after that the pipeline will start being filled with 2016. Interesting on the warranty going to 5 yr/60 mos on nav, but I still wonder what the safety radar, HUD, backup camera, blind spot, intelligent cruise control falls into this?

Some people assume that because the 2015 was available in June 2014, that the 2016 will be available about the same time of year in 2015. I have no personal knowledge about that, so I don't really know. However, usually they release an all-new car as soon as they can (as soon as it is finished and fully tested), and that may account for the early 2015 release. Typically, if there are few changes, they revert to a fall release schedule, but I don't really know this time.

I think there is a possibly a lot of misunderstanding about the warranty on the safety radar, HUD, backup camera, blind spot, intelligent cruise control, just because it was very poorly worded in the warranty terms. It may have been 5 years - 60K miles all along.

Wait. Hyundai is known for implementing YoY upgrades while most manufacturers typically wait for their mid-model refresh (usually year two of a four-year cycle). Worst thing that could happen is they change little or nothing and you may be able to swing a better deal on a late production 2015.

Production begins on 6/1 for the 16 MY, there should be more details about the specifications in the next month, if not sooner.

Think i am getting a decent deal on a new 2015 Sedan (in colors of my choice) 3.8L, Ultimate; about $500 per month for a 36 month lease, with Zero down, 12K miles per year, $400 disposition. Am very very tempted to pull the trigger....
Not sure if 2016s will be this affordable for a while...

Thoughts on the lease costs above are welcome...is it competitive, or too high?

I'm not exactly sure, probably NA-bound though. Usually it's 1-2 months to get over here from my understanding.

When the 2015 came out, I believe it was available for sale for KDM 4-5 months earlier than in US.

I think it is going to take more than one month to ship them, since the ones made for US market on the first day are not going on a ship right away until they have enough volume of 2016's to ship together at same time.

I kind really want to wait and see if there is 2016 5.0 AWD available in United States, Canada has it... I live in Ohio, so AWD is pretty important.

With the lower gas prices, that is always a possibility.

I grew up in the SW NY snow belt where the road surface was covered with ice and snow for months at time. We all drove rear wheel drive vehicles with crappy bias ply tires and no traction control, stability control, or antilock braking. I remember trying to drive up hills, only to bog down and slide back to the bottom (carefully pumping the brakes to avoid the 6 ft deep ditches). Assuming you use decent snow tires, the modern insistence on AWD seems to be a bit of overkill.

I was in this exact same situation a month ago. I needed a new car, but was tempted to wait for the 2016. I ended up leasing the 3.8 Ultimate, and I'm so glad I did. Best car I have ever had. I think those lease terms are competitive, especially if you aren't getting an additional incentive like the $1500 lease conquest rebate for competitive vehicles. I'm sure the 2016 will have some additional bells and whistles, but the cost of waiting four months was too high for me. Life is too short.

My Genesis is actually my second Hyundai in the past 18 months. Early last year, my wife wanted a Santa Fe Limited, and I went for the "Fighting Chance" approach of calling five dealerships that had the exact car I wanted, talked to the Internet Manager, and gave them the opportunity to get my business. I highly recommend Fighting Chance - I hadn't bought a new car in a while, and I felt much more confident after reading those materials (and they will give you advice over the phone). Worth every penny.

Most dealers were nice and professional, but I immediately liked the team at Tustin Hyundai in Orange County in Southern California, even though they were 50 miles from my home. Frank Joubran, the Internet Director, was straightforward, knowledgeable, and efficient. We agreed on a price, and he promised me that everything would be exactly as we discussed - and it was. I was very impressed.

When it came time for me to get a Genesis, I went straight to Frank. I told him what I wanted, and within 30 minutes I had a detailed proposal. He also got the exact model I wanted from another dealership within hours. It was the end of the month and a promotion was expiring that night, so I drove down, worked with his colleague Kevin Rullan (who is also excellent), and signed the lease papers that evening for a 3.8 Ultimate RWD.

The exact deal obviously depends on one's credit, what deals are being run that month, what add-ons you get, local tax rates, and what promotions you are eligible for (e.g., Military, Conquest (competitive car), recent College Grad, BoostUp, etc), so it's hard to compare apples-to-apples. That said, my lease was for just under $500/month for 12K miles, no money down, but I was also eligible for multiple promotions which reduced my price by $50-$75/month. Overall, I highly recommend Tustin Hyundai - check out dealerrater.com, and you'll find that I'm not alone.

I have driven the car 800 miles in 3 weeks, only because I have had several trips to the OC this month. Normally I would do ~800/month.

My Genesis has been fantastic in every way, and the features on the Ultimate totally justified the extra cost.
