  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sunroof Seel Peeling

Not too big a deal to me, bothersome but it is cosmetic in an inconspicuous area and a fix will become available. At least, there better be a permanent fix coming!!

I totally agree. Just cosmetic. It doesn't leak and as you mentioned, a permanent fix will come.

I have only opened mine about 3 times since last September so using or not using the sunroof has no effect on it.

The roof seal still looks perfect. The dealer got the new one in with seal already bonded to it, they had glass place take it off and put new one on. They did rest of work. As I also noted the sliding member now just barely contacts the seal which I think helps for long term as it is not applying all that "pulling" on the seal as before. This was in southeast Wisconsin. I ran into a tech and he had done my car the first time where it came loose overnight and he agreed that they would not be able to bond a new seal to the old roof but that could also be because Hyundai tells them what they have to do as the service MGR told me. That's why the manager pressed Hyundai and they said to put the new roof on with seal already in place. And I have been using the roof a lot.

Just bought a new Genesis about 4 weeks ago (not sure of build date), but I just noticed the seal peeling back on my roof after coming back from A trip to South Carolina where the car spent all but part of 1 day in a garage.

My brother noticed it when we stopped on our return trip. Looks horrible, but if there's no leak to worry about them I don't want the dealership trying to fix it.

Yep, looks like mine. I am with you. I am not having my dealer touch it until Hyundai comes up with a TSB that fixes it for good. All posters who had their dealers try and fix it (that I have seen so far), the issue came right back. I think I read one post where they actually installed a new Panoramic Sunroof and it fixed it. It doesn't leak so I am not concerned about it (for now). Your build date is located on the placard on the drivers side door jamb. Report back what your build date is. Mine is noted below.

Thank You.

Is there anyone who has a recent build date (May, June or July 2015) and does not have this issue?

Stopped by my local dealership last night. They had 5 cars and 4 of them had the sea peeling issue at varying levels. Some just barely and some quite a bit. Only 1 car didn't appear to have any issue yet.

I started going to a different dealer recently and the service is WAY better. anyways...the point is I had him talk to his area rep about this issue. He said they are aware of it and they all drive Genesis as a company car so they see it on their own cars.

they are working towards a fix, so I'll wait till that comes out. mine has been this way for a year....no problems with water. every Genesis I see on the lot has this pealing to some degree.

My wife noticed it a while bakck, & ours also has a partial peeling between the sunroof & stationary glass. Brought it to my local dealers attention & they said they never seen it around here on Geneisis.??? But I'm cautious about what they said has to be done , they send all there roof stuff to a specialty shop, but that doesn't calm my nerves, I'm just letting it be right now

When they did mine again, they ordered up a new rear roof panel with seal already on it. They had glass company remove just that panel and out new one on. Dealer did all other work. As I noted they sliding panel was adjusted so it barely put any down pressure on the seal, just enough to make it look good. Frankly I think that's part of why it looks fine and is holding up. I think if it was pulling down into the seal as prior it would pull this one away also in time.

Mine is affected as well. 3.8 awd. Build date January 2015. Car has 3k miles.

I've got a March 2015 build date and do not have this issue. Waiting for it to appear. :-/

Mine has a March 28, 2015 build date and hoping the problem doesn't present itself, so far, so good...

I had my complete pano roof replaced in April to fix the rattle issue and now in August the seal is starting to peel from the stationary glass panel of the new roof!

Looks to be a design issue. Has the replacement roof eliminated the rattle?

Yes, the new roof eliminated the rattle.

Thanks, I have HMA regional and field engineer coming to look at mine on the 31st and, as the dealer made a greasy mess of mine, am demanding they replace it too.

Any more news on you sunroof peeling problem? Did you get the problem resolved??

They had to replace it twice - but is ok so far after the second time - but it's only been about 8 weeks, so time will tell.

Dropping my car off tomorrow afternoon to have mine replaced. Hopefully it goes well the 1st time and doesn't take multiple repairs.
