My 2009 Tech crossed the 5 year mark this month, and I've been feeling the itch lately. I never modded the rear suspension, and the bills were piling up from hair restoration after years of banging into the headliner every time I crossed a speed bump...
I've been waiting for the right opportunity. The sweet spot in the used market seems to be the 2012 model year. Knowing the oil-burn risks of going with a 5.0 engine made before spring 2012, I have had my eyes on a 4.6. First choice in color was Platinum and 2nd was white.
For several months I've been searching the net for this combination, and even here in FL where there are lots of Gennys, the right car just never popped up. Until a week ago, when a Platinum 2012 showed up on the local Lexus dealer's lot.
On the first test drive, it had strange behavior with the LDWS. Then I went back for a second drive and realized they had put vinyl lettering across the windshield, partly blocking the camera. Peeled 'em off, went for another drive and it tracked fine. Schwing!
After a good bit of back and forth haggling over the past week, it came down to the obvious fact that this Lexus dealer is not in the business of taking in used cars on trades for other used cars, esp. when not a Lexus. So yesterday morning the '09 was sold to Carmax, and the 2012 4.6 Platinum is mine
Funniest thing about the entire deal was that one of the other used car salesmen complimented me on my choice, saying that my newly acquired 2 year old $24,900+TTT Genesis had more features on it than the brand new LS460 F-sport listing for $87k sitting 40 feet away in the showroom! Heh.
PS -- Posting the obligatory mid-day-over-exposed-crappy-cell-phone-picture-quality photos ... I'll have to wait for a better camera and light!
