If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Yet another issue with the new 15' Genesis V8 Ultimate.

Started out with sound going completely off until the car is reset. I would be cruising down the interstate and the sound would completely turn off, and no output would function. Bluelink folks could still hear me, but I couldn't hear them.

What would resolve this was resetting the car. Took it into the dealership and fortunately the regional engineer/tech (Rod in the central region - Great guy!) from Hyundai was there and personally took a look at the car. Said that my flash drive with over 3k files was potentially causing the issue and overloading the system (?), suggested driving without that many files.

Ok, fine. Got a new flash drive (ironically, one that Hyundai sent me), put a bit over 50 files on it, and 20 minutes later, sound system completely turns off. Resetting the car won't work this time, sound remains offline. None of the Bluelink buttons work, and cites "cannot connect to service" when going into the menu.

Dealership couldn't pull any codes, regional guys told them to put a new head unit in there.

No loaner again, Hyundai cited that it's not a safety issue, so neither they nor the local dealer would provide one.

What a $@!!@#ing nightmare.

That's a good one :)

Get a grip, your radio is defective. When the new unit comes in it's only a one day job to replace it.

I only hope this a part that can be acquired from a regional supply and it's not something coming direct from Korea as many parts do. If the situation is weeks without a head unit that would be extremely annoying.

I remember reading about the old generation Genesis that they would remove the fuse to reset the head unit. Have you tried that as a temp fix until your new head unit arrives?

lol, yeah.

In positive news, original ETA last night was potentially middle of this upcoming week, pending where the part would originate from. After making a few contacts with corporate (barking up the right tree so to say...) they swapped a working head unit off a new V6 equivalent car on the lot. No good. Amplifier was swapped, and that resolved the issues.

So, bad amplifier. I wasn't originally pleased with the ETA, but i'm satisfied with the recent expedited resolution. That's how it should be on every single one of their "luxury" cars, a consumer shouldn't have to be subject to unreasonable waiting times. Hopefully someone at corporate and regional is taking notes ;)

Great, the sky didn't fall after all.

I'm not a big fan of this solution. Great, they can "source" a part faster, but man would I be pissed to buy the brand new car they had torn down and put back together so they could borrow a part for someone else.

After all of the head unit issues with the first generation Gs I am disappointed to read about your problem. Hopefully the fix will last.

Regrettably, the issue reoccurred. Back at the dealership. They said the original head unit is still in there (they only retained the amplifier last time), and suspect that it may be the culprit now.

Bluelink completely stopped working too from the last visit. Says i'm not subscribed, but the subscription says i'm already enrolled.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
My dealer has been quite good about providing a loaner Genesis and keeping my car until problems resolved. The last time they kept it for 4 days but when I got the car back all my issues had been resolved with no re occurrences.

A few threads reference a refusal to provide loaners for warranty repairs. This is really penny wise and pound foolish on Hyundai's part as the "real" premium car dealers are all about customer satisfaction. You can say that "you get what you pay for" but if Hyundai wants to lure those buyers to the Genesis they need to provide a better experience than what some dealers are now providing.

An update from the dealership: Car is working as intended according to Hyundai. Apparently the amp is overheating (?)

Watch out boys and girls. Listening to your music at volume greater than 30 (out of a 45 max) can kill the amp.

Listened to some Pink Floyd on the way home and the sound system cut out again. Nice engineering.

Dimitry, did you have this issue in your older Genny (?R-Spec?)?

Also, does the issue happen on all inputs (ex: blue tooth/XM/CDs etc)?

My son insists to listening @ Volume 35+ when he is in either the 4.6 or R-Spec, I never had this issues for any length of time including our frequent 8+ hour GA <-> FL trips!

I know the 15 Ultimate has gazillion (ok..=900) watts which is more than the G1 'Tech' package (a meager 528 watts ;)), but still I find it hard to believe their story...

Personally, I would take it back to another dealer, if they say the same thing, they will need to demonstrate where in the manual does it show you can not listen to the Audio at 'high volume' / 30+ !!??

My R-Spec i could blast it all day @ 35+ without any issues. The 09 on the other hand, had similar issues. I'm not sure what they did between the 12/15 (Tech said they actually added a bunch more heatsinks, ect)

This reoccurs on all platforms I've tested, Streaming, XM, ect. I haven't tried AM though.

Not sure about the amp but, based on my experience, I think that listening at a volume of 30+ will eventually kill your hearing...

My sound system issue is that periodically SiriusXM reverts to the preview channel. It is a known issue, but according to Hyundai, they don't have a fix yet. Anyone else having that issue?

Yeah, if it can't talk to "mama" when you start the car, it will revert to the default station. I work at a place with enclosed parking and it happens when I park deep in the bowels of the structure.

They are supposed to be working on a fix.

Got off the phone with Hyundai just now. Their stance is that's how the amplifier was designed, to cut out. Working as intended. I told them this is an issue that needs to be rectified, as it's not something that was present on my 12 R-Spec, which I assume had the same amplifier system. They forwarded my concern to engineering but that's as much as they could do at this point.

Emailed Lexicon about the issue and we'll see what they have to say. The chief concern here is that Hyundai warranties the radio and associated electrical components at 3y/36k for the Genesis, head units go for 5k-6k and amps around 2-3k, not to mention labor costs.

Hopefully they push out a TSB to resolve this issue so no other owners are affected.
