If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Just a heads up and an inquiry to others.

When I grab the steering wheel like I'm going to use the paddle shifters and I pull towards myself one side at a time, the steering wheel shifts back and forth as though a bolt is coming loose. It does it in park or while driving, doesn't matter.

the rubber seal between the sunroof and the rear passenger glass is coming loose from the rear passenger glass, so that when the sunroof closes the seal is pushed down at a 45 degree angle. I have checked others on the car lot and they are not that way, so maybe the glue/bond has failed on mine.

just a heads up and inquiry to see if others have had this issue.

I plan to take it in soon for service.

When you close your sunroof, does it close properly? Have you had your sunroof not close and return to open position? Does it stall out?

I recently had a sunroof issue, trying to figure out if it is a similar issue...

everything about my sunroof operates fine.

it's the seal that is bonded to the rear piece of glass that seals between the front and rear piece. its just coming unbounded, so when the sunroof closes it pushes the seal down exposing the surface that should be matted to the rear panel with glue or whatever they use to bond it.

So you're saying you can grab the steering wheel, pull it towards you and there is play in the wheel?

Best case is the steering wheel nut was not tightened during production. Scary but I'm sure it happens sometimes. It requires removal of the airbag to access the nut.

Worst case is there is play in the steering rack. Could be a number of things wrong.

Either way I would head to the dealer to diagnose.

you can't pull it towards you if you pull on BOTH sides at the same time. The only time it moves is if you pull towards you on one side at a time. Right....then Left....then Right. etc.

I've never had a car, new or used ever do that.

I'm aware of the nut, having restored cars and pulled many a steering wheel off. I just wondered if anyone else has had this problem.....or maybe they don't know cause they haven't figured it out yet, so in that case it was informative. I'd hate for something bad to happen to anyone else that isn't aware it is coming loose.

I'd suggest everyone give this a try. I have 3500 miles on my car.

when my car was purchased it also had a loose rearview mirror. fyi on that too.

I have noticed mine does the same thing - couldn't determine when it does it but it definitely does. I suspect there will be a campaign

I'm betting you're right. seem like it could be a safety issue at some point.

Sooo... I went to get lunch today and as I waited for my to go order outside by my car I just so happened to see: Wait for it.... that the rubber seal between the sunroof and the rear passenger glass is coming loose from the rear passenger glass, exactly as you mentioned above. Was like... this is odd, what are the chances. No leaks from what I can tell, but yet another small thing to add to the list. 5.2K on the car.

Dropping it off for service this afternoon. This is my list at 5.5K

1) Oil Change (normal)
2) Seal Break as mentioned above
3) Closing hesitation of sunroof
4) Software Update (Xm radio hiccups)
5) Snow Tires to All Season (normal)
6) Recall Issue

I previously had to take it in at 1K for a defaulty airbag sensor.

So, I am greatful my warrenty will be for 6 + years as I drive about 12K a year. I love this car, but I do believe Hyuandai just needs a little refinement/polishing in putting the GENESIS package all together. These little issues are a BIG annoyance! But then again, maybe this is the hump and all better from here on out...

Love this car, but just saying...

let me know what they decide to do about that seal between the panels.

Took my car in for service. So...they gave me a rental because rep KNOWS it will take a couple days plus to fix the seal on the sunroof, plus everything else on my list. If you live in Colorado Springs or Denver area, the Chapel Hills Hyundai has great customer service. On another note, Sonata is pretty nice. not a bad loaner at all.

there may be more to this steering wheel thing then I thought. I can't explain it and my wife was a witness, but this weekend I started the car and tried rocking the wheel and it barely moved at all. I have no idea why....physics on that makes no sense at all compared to what it was doing before.

I'm worried about them repairing that seal on mine. worried it will never be the same afterwards. take the panel out and try to factory place it in again....just doesn't seem possible locally. I'm just paranoid I'm sure.

I wish they had loaners around here. best I'd get I'm afraid is a rental car.

I too am worried. Interested in how they will go about fixing it. I have been thinking this might be a trade in car at the 3 year mark. I can't imagine paying out of pocket for this stuff after the 3 year/36K warrenty expires. Expensive fixes...

Hey Genpire? Where do you live. Could this be a climate issue? My tech is trying to think out of the box on this sunroof issue? They have no clue how to fix it at the moment and need to get a Regional Rep to come check the issue out... I asked them if this has happened on Sonatas because a similar car and he said no...

I would demand a loaner car from the dealership when you take it in! This is warrenty and they should give you that courtesy! Seriously!

I'm in the North Texas area. I have had a few cars with a pano roof now and none of them did this. my last car was a kia sorento, first year of the redesign. only problem with that one was the sunroof would squall really bad in the high Texas heat. lube it and it would be okay for a bit. it was a known issue with no real solution from the dealer other then lube.

the news from your dealership isn't encouraging. if they don't know how they are going to fix it....man that worries me a bit on the quality of the repair when it comes time.

I agree with you on the loaner, but I wont hold my breath.

as for the 3/36. we purchased the extended bumper to bumper with disappearing deductible. So, as long as I go to the selling dealership I pay nothing past 3/36 or whatever the bumper to bumper is.

took the car in this weekend for the taillight recall.

had them look at the steering wheel. they brought another Genesis around to compare. the steering wheel on it was worse then mine. very wobbly. Not sure if this will be a trend like the sunroof seal, but I plan to tell the service rep when I get my appointment with them soon.

the dealer where I live had a Engineer for Hyundai come in to check my steering wheel end play and I took him to other Genesis on the lot out of the five cars three of them had the same issue . The engineer thinks it is in the bearings that contracts when cool and expand when hot , I told him that in the winter the end play was more . Now that it is warmer the end play is less. They gave me a rent a car until they can fix this issue with the steering wheel end play I won't let them off the hook until this is resolved .
