  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Fellow Genesis owners:
In order to capture the true nature of suspension issues, I suggest we all enter the information below to narrow in on the problem (if it exists) and the under what circumstances is it truly most pronounced. My request to you is to not change the fields, nor add additional comments (let's just try and capture the facts).

Since I have read a lot of posts and subjective comments, I am hoping that by providing the information below, multiple people can test/drive their cars on identified roads and check if the suspension issue is relevant to only a few cars (manufacturing issue), few owners (subjective/feel issue), or more widespread.

NOTE: I started this in another place (Rough Ride..rear), but thought it would be easier to have a dedicated thread.
Thanks,

This survey is not scientific (not a random sample of owners or even members of this forum), bogus (choices are biased, for example, if the suspension is too stiff, then one must claim that there is "suspension failure"), and not anonymous (which means that some responses may not be truthful). In other threads, people have been called liars who complained about the suspension, so there probably is fear of retribution, especially if there are people connected with Hyundai on this forum (we know for certain there are some, but not sure how many).

Here, is what the moderator of this forum says about the suspension:

... So you're another one to add to the list - of people who feel the Genesis ride is a bit stiff. I think it's safe to say that it is official (according to the members of GenesisOwners.com) - the ride is stiffer than it needs to be... Of course, Hyundai wanted to impress the magazines - which worked out in their favor...

Please stop this charade you are calling a survey.

Mark 888,

Unless you have a better suggestion, please stop trolling this site. You've already stated how you feel multiple times. Please stop with the childish behavior and innuendo.

I've had enough of you and your little conspiracy theories that anyone who doesn't agree w/ you is either in denial or is tied to Hyundai.

I find it curious as to why someone who thinks the suspension has no problems is so intent on conducting the survey. But however pure the motives are for the survey in this thread, it is seriously flawed for the reasons I presented, and I will not participate, and I would urge others who have a problem to also not participate in the survey as currently being conducted.

Since there are known to be Hyundai or dealer employees on this forum, I think I have right to ask that question about that. There is nothing wrong with such people being on the forum, and in general they add immensely to this forum, but in some cases full disclosure is called for.

I will be the first to provide such disclosure: I own some stock in Hyundai in conjunction with a Korean stock fund.

Personally, I think this issue has been intelligently discussed many times in other threads and here is pretty good summary by the moderator of what most members think:

... So you're another one to add to the list - of people who feel the Genesis ride is a bit stiff. I think it's safe to say that it is official (according to the members of GenesisOwners.com) - the ride is stiffer than it needs to be... But, since you want my suggestions on how to improve this survey (which I previously outlined) here some more specific recommendations:.

1. Since no one that I know of has claimed suspension failure (which implies something broke), the following should be changed from:

Extent of suspension failure (NO ISSUE, MINOR, MAJOR, or DISASTER)

to

Extent of suspension concern (NO CONCERN, MINOR CONCERN, MODERATE CONCERN, MAJOR CONCERN):

2, Add something like the following questions:

a. Would you be interested in suspension modification if Hyundai made it available that was slightly less harsh, but still firmer than the Korean model (DEFINITELY YES, PROBABLY YES, NOT SURE, PROBABLY NO, DEFINITELY NO).

b. How much would you be willing to pay for a suspension modification if Hyundai made it available: (I would like it but will not pay for it, $250, $500, $750, $1000 or more, I would not change it even if Hyundai made a change available).

c. Would your answer to a. or b. above change if Hyundai made suspension changes to the 2010 Genesis that reduced some of the common complaints about it? Comments welcome.

3. The survey or poll should be anonymous, but that "may" create more problems with regard to double voting, etc (I am not sure how a poll works with this forum software). All other such surveys conducted by JD Powers, Consumer Reports, etc, are anonymous.

My basic problem is that people who claim the problem doesn't exist should not be the ones who are making up the survey.
