Symptoms before complete stereo losss: Stereo clips/cuts out regardless of source

Turning off the vehicle and turning it back on would resolve the issue originally...

Then it didn't resolve the issue and apparently the Amplifier was blown.

Dealership overnighted a replacement Amplifier from california vehicle had around 18k miles. (I drive over close to 150-200 miles a day) So long trips with no music sucks!

Now same thing happened again... Vehicle has just slightly above 20k miles. Just happened Friday when driving to work. Stereo does not come back (No Audio, No Beeps from the Parking sensors anything driven by the amplifier/speakers)

Has anyone else had this issue or experience similar problems? I'm not sure if this is just the ultimate version having this issue due to the additional speakers.

When I originally purchased vehicle the audio clipping did not occur.....

I've had no sound after a remote start a few times in the winter. Restarting the car would fix it, but rather annoying to have to do so (sound actually came back as I shut off as I recall). Since it's warmed up, I have not remote started recently and have had no sound issues (other than sometimes slow Siruis boot up).

No issues with my 5.0 Ultimate. I remember reading about the Gen 1 Genesis that some had issues with loose ground connections causing similar issues. Check the connections on your battery in the trunk and the jump start connections under the hood to insure that they are tight.

Have you run a system check to see if it confirms an issue? Also have you done a system reset. Page 23 of the DIS manual. There is a small hole located just above the right end of the CD slot. Use a paper clip or small pin to insert into the hole to reset the system.

Just a thought... Keep us posted on your outcome.

I did check in the back battery connections are good. No fuses blown. Reset of the DIS doesn't change the status of the audio or lack there of.

Nothing showing under the system check, AFAIK it doesn't check the audio of the system...

I didn't check under the hood.

Where is the Amplifier located at? In the trunk? I didn't see it under the seats...

The amp on my 2015 3.8 signature is in the trunk, underneath the trunk liner in the left rear fender. Not sure if yours is in a different location since you have the 17 speaker system and I only have the 14. Common sense says it shouldn't make a difference but hey, you never know.

So the story continues. Why can't Hyundai equip the Genesis with a reliable amplifier/head unit/ ground connection or correct whatever causes the issue? My first Genesis (2010 3.8 Sedan tech) and my present car (2012 3.8 Sedan tech) were beset with this problem. There has to be a least 5 separate threads about the "no sound" issue. Look at Consumer Reports Genesis reliability ratings and the audio/GPS/electronic portion is solid black (as in REALLY UNRELIABLE). The head unit on my present Genesis has been replaced 3 times and still, occasionally, the "no sound" problem occurs. A reliable temporary fix, with drawbacks (you loose all of your presets for the FM/AM, Satellite and the data stored in your GPS), is to turn off your car and pull the large, yellow fuse located in the interior, driver's side fuse box. Replace the fuse, start the car and "exquisite...cough" Lexicon comes to life.

I have no confidence that Hyundai is willing to fix the problem for 1st generation owners. The surprise is that this issue may still be occurring in the 2nd generation. Us owners of the 1st generation were given a universal tuff s*^t by Hyundai but if this problem is still happening then I'm really surprised.

I'm taking this all in before my next car. One thing I've learned after having the Genesis: If you want to discover the good and bad of a car then spend a few evenings reading the owners forum BEFORE you buy.

Well it has been confirmed that the amplifier is blown. They've ordered another one.

I even spoke to the Sales guy whom had sold me the car, he said well how loud do you listen to it ? I said Max as I do since highway driving the stereo is barely loud enough especially when you have the windows down. With the premium sound system on the ultimate I expect this to NOT be a problem. I had an 2008 Evo X MR, for 5 years and listen to that stereo at max volume and never had this issue which that was a 1st Gen car.

Next comes into another problem which I also mentioned to the dealership Sales guy today and to the Review call that I got after the last service. The last time I had dropped off the vehicle and got a loaner which I will never do again at this dealership. Why you may ask, during the time when my vehicle was in their possession I received two panic pages from the car on two separate days, to my surprise the car was NOT at the dealership it was some 25 miles away at Bonefish grill. He thought maybe it was some other electrical problem so he went out and tested the panic and the car did show the correct address/nearby which was in the parking lot. So it's not that the car reported the incorrect address. How do you think I told him that if I stopped paying for the car that you guys will be able to locate the vehicle and repo it.

I told both of them the service advisor and the sales guy that if this problem happens one more time, you guys are going to be buying my car back.

If not then I'll start making a lot of noise about the quality of the dealership and the vehicles being sold.

For the price of what I had paid for on the car I will not tolerate this. Simply put these issues should never occur if you're paying for a car at the price range mentioned.

During the first 16k miles on the car I didn't have the problem with stereo clipping/cut-out at high volume. Maybe since my drive is 40+ minutes and all highway most people don't experience this problem. I'll review the other thread but at this point I'm NOT a happy person with the dealership nor the car itself simply due to the Stereo issue.

Replacement Amplifier has been installed by the dealership. I've received a phone call from the Service manager yesterday since I did contact Hyundai Corporate it appears that Corporate had contacted the dealership. Corporate also did call me today to identify my concerns and have them addressed. They've(Dealership) indicated that they were not able to identify any problems on the system that would cause the amplifier to blow. It was also indicated by Corporate person that was assigned to my case that the "Max" level shouldn't cause the amplifier to blow. They believe that it's possible that both amps had issues(faulty part). I can buy that, however if it happens again they'll be getting on the line with their tech support. Looking at the cost of the amplifier to be replaced it's over $2500 in part cost no labor cost. So as anyone can presume if this becomes out of warranty then it can/would be really expensive. Corporate is also investigating the "Panic notification" that indicated the car was in a complete different location when the car was in the dealerships possession.

I also dealt with Hyundai Corporate..."we have no history of this problem". That just can't be true. They monitor the media to judge public reception of their products. I think the "bean counters" decided it's better to stone wall (and fix piecemeal) complants about the audio issues. Given what happened with the first generation Genesis and it's audio issues, I'm really surprised that the second generation Genesis still has this issue.

Did the new amp resolve your symptoms completely? I'm still having the same symptoms -- Hyundai cites it's normal for the system to cut out (which isn't normal at all...)

I had a 2012 genesis 4.6 sedan I had the same issue on several occasions and it turned out to be the amp once the dealership replaced the amp.
I had no more with the stereo issue. I currently own a 2015 3.8 Hyundai Genesis ultimate package have not had a problem with the stereo system but because you have a signature package which I believe comes with a CO2 sensor if you look at the owners manual page 3–151 it says that you can manually turn on and off the CO2 sensor I've been dealing with customer service since February 24/2015 regarding this issue and they told me that they were going to elevated my concerns to the max level well just a little word of advice all they do is call the dealership and find out what the problem is and I kept reminding customer service that the dealership is waiting on answers from you guys regarding what is stated in the owners manual and a reply from the tech line finally the owner of the Hyundai dealership contacted his Hyundai representative on my behalf because of the quantity and amount of cars that he purchases for his dealership got me an answer within two days 04/27/15. The description stated in the owners manual was incorrect and that is the CO2 sensor is on all the time and you cannot turn it on and off as stated in the manual and from experience I would like to let you know that Hyundai Corporation monitors this website so they know what we post on this website for Genesis. From dealing with them since 2012 on other issues you must basically stay on their Ass!!! until you get the results you are expecting from Hyundai for the price we paid for our Genesis. I'm glad to hear that you set up your panic alert on your vehicle because I'm going to do that with mine thanks for posting the information about your car after being driven approximately 25 miles away from the dealership .

Well... Yesterday while having to go do a store run for the wife, the stereo cut out a few times and now there's again no stereo this time the volume wasn't even at the max level It was at 40 when it took its last breath! This is just ridiculous. I'll be calling the lady from corporate to identify what the actual case # is for my issue so that I can have that documented. I'll also be going back to the dealership today to advise them that it appears this vehicle will be back in their possession as the problem has yet once again re-appeared (3rd time!) if it's the same problem it'll be the 4th Amplifier in this car... Lets do the math... 4x 2535 = $10140 of a single replacement part for the stereo. Cost of vehicle 52k, so right now the repair costs are at 1/5 of the total price of the car...

Car has been at the dealership for the last 3 days, I was provided with a loaner vehicle During this time.

They've said they checked everything in the car and unable to find anything else at this time. Their recommendation is to replace the amplifier once again and corporate office said that's not good enough to simply replace it and have the problem re-occur. Should I even offer the option that if it doesn't fix it with the factory then to request that it be replaced with an aftermarket one? I don't know if the surround sound logic is built into the amplifier or is separate module. Does anyone know or does anyone have full tech manual for schematics ?

Silver your math would be correct if Hyundai is using new parts. Of the 4 head unit changes performed on my vehicle I was told that only the last replaced head unit was new. The three previous replacements were refabed. My new unit, yet still, on odd occasion has the no audio problem. Hyundai knows about the problem and they don't have a fix...oh well just factor this in before the next car purchase. I'm really surprised that the 2nd generation Genesis has this issue.

I've had the car back for about 7 days now. I still at times do get audio clipping where the media playing cuts out, with hands on steering wheel almost instant reaction to lower the volume, to prevent amplifier from getting destroyed... So I'm not sure if this is really fixed, since if I had left it play when clipping it could have burned up the amplifier... Which BTW should ***NEVER*** get destroyed....

Not sure if the actual issue is fixed they did go through "everything grounds, checking the ohms of speakers, etc." on the car.

They also did mention that they had 1 other case of this in the US where they had to replace the amplifier 3 times to resolve the issue; which could be partly due to the fact that the amps are "refurbished". As it was indicated "only time can tell if the issue is resolved", just makes me feel as if they're just hoping the problem goes away...

My other questions at this time would be why is there so many refurbished amps on the market and they have not identified what's causing the amplifiers to fail. My biggest concern would be when the car is out of factory warrantee, the price to "fix" could get really expensive really fast...

👍👆👏🏻 agree..

Okay guys so I've had some time to listen to pretty much all the music that I have and I can tell slight differences between the original amp obviously the refurbished amplifiers and It appears that this Amplifier wasn't "refurbished" and was the 3rd Amplifier replaced in the 2015 Hyundai Genesis Ultimate 3.8 sounds a little bit different. Some of the music sounds a tad bit higher at lower volume levels. While I will say I had 1 maybe 2 times when I had the music stopped playing but instant reaction on the volume button on the steering wheel caught it. I REALLY hope that it doesn't blow the instant that I do not lower the volume 3-5 levels. The other thing that I had noticed regardless of the source is that every so often and you really have to be paying attention there's a rogue sound which sounds like what happens before the music does cut out at higher volumes, The same sound which is brief maybe 1 second if that happens regardless of source Radio, XM, Media. I will have to say that since I don't listen to CDs directly that I'm unable to confirm if that problem happens right from CDs or not. However I know from the Media that's on the harddrive in the car does not have that sound and the sound/tone happens in different parts of the song. Really baffles me as to what that sound is coming from... And now the only other item that I can say that I hear that I did not hear before is in certain voices tones(Comedy XM) I hear what sounds like one of the tweeters are bad in the back. I'll bring this issue up to the dealer the next time that I have to go in, Which will more likely be sooner because now I'm having a new problem with AC which I wasn't have before. I'll be starting a thread on that one. I'm not sure if anyone has realized but this is the first thread that pops up when searching 2015 Hyundai Genesis Stereo issues. So I would like to think that Hyundai would like to completely resolve the issue to keep their current customers and continue with getting new ones.

When I originally purchased vehicle the audio clipping did not occur.....

Just bought my 3.8 AWD Ultimate Genesis 3 weeks ago, confident that I wouldn't have alot of the problems other people are having (A/V issues, chassis vibrations, etc....)
Within 1 week of purchase began having issues with no sound from A/V system, regardless of source. Some days it would work, others not, with no rhyme or reason. Called local Hyundai service dept, who said they were aware of the A/V issues and scheduled a 1 hour appt to fix it. My wife brought it in yesterday, and after 3-1/2 hours they did not know what the problem was. They called some Hyundai hotline and were given a 10-point list of things to check, of which they got through one item. Now we have to bring it back and leave it for 2-3 days for them to try to fix it. Hopefully we dont get the "blown amplifier" run-around and replaced 3 time.

This with less than 1500 miles on the vehicle.
