  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Long story, fair warning and sorry ahead of time.

So... I purchased a 2015 Genesis 3.8 Tech on 4/27. I traded in a 2013 Honda Accord (ick). Honda called me 2 days ago (5/20) to let me know my payment on my Honda Accord was 3 days late. Upon checking, my Honda still wasn't paid off. I checked the DMV and my plates were still registered to my old Honda Accord. I tried calling the Hyundai dealership I dealt with over a 2 day period leaving a couple voicemails with different people, to no avail (no call backs and every phone call being met with "the team is busy").

I leave work an hour early today to speak with the dealership in person. I'm told the packet was next-day shipped to Hyundai finance. The packet was received and signed for by Hyundai Finance. They called Hyundai Finance and they will contact the dealership when they have more info (no eta).

I am in limbo right now...

Problem 1: My first payment on my new car is due on 5/25. I have no account number or payment info to send to or associate with. I will probably be late for my first payment.. but my paperwork won't even go through before the payment is due.

Problem 2: My payment on my old Honda is overdue. Honda recommends I make the payment but to BE SURE to get reimbursed by the dealership first as I will lose that money when the payoff happens. The dealership just tells me to pay it and I will get a check, which is what Honda warns me not to do because the check goes to the dealership.

Problem 3: My old car is still registered to my plates on my new car. This means I need to pay my personal property tax ($400) on my old car before 6/5 or risk being late. I have no proof my car was sold outside my documents, which mean nothing because none of it was submitted yet. I need proof, which is the submission to the DMV in order to get a proper pro-rated bill.

The dealership said I need to wait for Hyundai to get back with them or me. They also recommended I call them to fix the issue (Hyundai Finance).

What do I do? Where do I go from here? The dealership is washing their hands of responsibility even though I was told by the business office that there are 2 queues where applications sit. Mine sat in the 'Approved' queue for 30 days. It never moved over the the 'In Contract' queue. They don't monitor 'Approved' so it's not their fault, it's Hyundai Finance.

Where do I go from here? This is nuts!! :(

Yikes. It is nuts. First blush thought... Pay Honda. If your credit is good, do not let this mess it up. Call them and pay by credit card if possible. Get it in before the weekend and you lose any grace period before hitting the credit scores. You should get money back with paper trial. But s few hundred is not worth ruining credit that may be untarnished.

For taxes... Looks like you have a few days to deal with this.. Will the dealer issue 30 day temp tags? If so, pay that fee and move on so you have plate for your new car.. Then go to BMV Tuesday and turn in your plate and let them know you will not renew. If it is personalized plate, maybe wait until Hyundai pencil pusher does their job. Finance might still be open now since they deal with Calf and HI time zones.. Call them and demand a duty manager in their call center.. Demand it. Do not get off the phone until a identified employee number manager is talking with you. You will likely need to get above this person too. Make them contact whoever, wherever, to get the ball rolling. Have them confirm your payment will not be marked late due on 25th. Again, if your credit is perfect, pay that by EFT out of your checking or by credit card. Doing credit card with someone like American Express, if you ever need to challenge Hyundai or Honda, you can get it reversed if you did not get the service desired (them accepting and posting the payment properly). Do not think you will ever get to that stage

Do not take no for answer.. You only need to find one person who knows the ropes, has some authority, and can cut through their internal crap.. That may only be one out of 20...

This help?

Put everything in writing by email. Verify phone conversations by emails. Pay the payment to Honda and make sure that they mail any overpayment amount to you and not the dealership. Go to your DMV office with your paper work and at least get the tag information removed from your old car. Have all documents with you when speaking with people in order the get things settled.

Ok... no luck with Hyundai Motor Finance.

So I sent an email to Hyundai North American CEO, Hyundai North America VP of Customer Satisfaction, Hyundai Motor Finance VP and Corporate Consumer Affairs directly. Doubt it will work, but hey... I will soon find out. It's amazing what information you can get from LinkedIn and Google.

The Hyundai North America VP of Customer Satisfaction (Frank Ferrara) already got back with me. Won't be open until Tuesday, but he will have his team followup with the dealer and HMF. :)

Okay... dead serious here. The North American CEO of Hyundai, Dave Zuchowski, responded to my email with an apology. He copied 2 guys and asked one to get with HMF and one to get with the dealership "ASAP" to fix this. *shocked*

Holy Hyundai Batman! That's how you keep a customer!

So far so good. Just keep documenting. Remember, if its not in writing then it never happened and no promises where made. I hope it is all quickly resolved to your satisfaction.

I had a similar situation, took HMF 30 days to pay off the volkswagen i traded in

"Holy Hyundai Batman!" 👏🏻👏🏻👍😱🍸😎💐 wow! That is amazing. It could have been them direct looking at email over the weekend, or 24/7 support team run out of their offices direct.. Does not matter, you are on their CAP (critical account/customer path) for resolution. That is great!, you should be ok now I would think.. And some folks along the chain, if the top is serious about fixing down the chain, will be getting a Jesus in the Temple like whipping or hammering next week. 🔨
