  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm very interested in the new Genesis but am concerned by the vibration issues raised on this forum. I've test driven a 3.8 AWD and experienced the vibration during the drive. I discovered the vibration before being aware of the issue here.

After taking the poll, any comments you have will be appreciated. Thanks!

I have not experienced any vibration issues with my 3.8L AWD. I don't think this is a major problem for the majority of Genesis drivers... These forums are a venting place to discuss problems but that doesn't mean that car is a lemon :)
Make sure you test drive the car you plan on buying...take it out on various road conditions. I have purchase 6 Hyundia cars and have found them to be extremely reliable

Indeed that is what I will do. Replies like yours are what I'm hoping to find! Please take the poll if you have not done so. Thanks!

the only vibration i've noticed on my htrac v6 is the flat spotting caused by the hankooks when they sit for a while.

So, do you fall under the last category of the poll, "My vibration goes away after 5 minutes of driving... Is not a concern?"

My 3.8 vibration issue is really severe in the winter. Really bad overnight and it even occurs at a lesser amount when I stop long enough for the tires to cool.

Even in the Texas summer, I get flat spotting overnight that takes about a half-mile at speed to even out. I just now returned from a week vacation (sans car) and it took several miles to even out on the first drive.

I'm going to live with it until fall and then have the Hankooks replaced. I'll have 20,000 plus on the car by that time.

Just because you don't have a vibration problem doesn't mean it doesn't exist. I would suggest that since the poll shows (so far) that 33% of voters do have a vibration issue that is unresolved, this is a major problem, albeit not in the safety or lemon category. This is my third Genesis and they have all been great cars. My immediate family has owned 6 Hyundai's, all excellent. I would certainly not discourage anybody from owning a 2015 Genesis just over this tire vibration issue. My car was 100% prior to the Hyundai initiated tire change from Hankook to Michelin. I realise it doesn't affect all cars, but it is a significant issue for those that are living with it. Of course people "vent" on this forum, it's an outlet for our frustration, but it is also a very useful data gathering site that can be used to prove to dealers & Hyundai that these tire issues are not the ramblings of one fussy owner.

I'm still riding on my Hankooks without an issue. I'm going to run on them until the issue is identified.

I am still driving on my original tires (Hankook's) with my 5.0 RWD. I have minor vibration that goes away rather quickly and is not an issue. I plan on driving mine until its close to the time the free tires are to expire and get them put on.

Not sure if all cars out there on the dealer lots have had the tires replaced yet or not. If I were you, I would look at the dealers around your area that still haven't changed out the tires and buy one with the Hankook's on it. That way you should be able to get a free set of tires down the road. Just a thought.

This car is awesome. This vibration issue is minor and goes away on my car. I think some others on here are having other issue besides the tires (possibly the wheels) so it is hard to differentiate between them.

This is one of the smoothest driving cars (possibly the smoothest) I have ever had. It is at least equal to the Lexus GS300 I owed a few years ago and certainly better than the Audi I traded in for the Genesis. I still have the original Hankooks and see no reason to change.

I find it quite interesting that with now 26 respondents to the poll, only 4 have a continuing problem that has not been fixed. That's only 15%, better than I expected.

On the other hand, I took my second test drive today. The first test was with a 3.8 AWD. Today's drive was in a 5.0 RWD, a beautiful Ibiza blue vehicle with the Ivory interior. Our test today lasted for over an hour and was made up of mixed interstate and city driving. As with the first test drive, the vibration was felt through the seat and not the steering wheel. Today's vibration was even more pronounced than our original test drive. In an hours time the vibration seemed to lessen in intensity, but not by more than 60% I would say.

The sales rep could feel the vibration as well and put the blame on the fact that the car sits on the lot all day.... Well, this is the case with all brands of cars that I've tested over many years, but I've never experienced a problem like this. Once again I forgot to look at the brand tires on the car, but don't the 3.8 and the 5.0 come with different brand tires? Maybe I'm wrong about that.

The problem is still a concern to me now after two drives, two different cars, and both cars having the issue. The lease on my current car is not up until March of 2016, so I'm hoping that the problem has been properly diagnosed and corrected by then. Otherwise, this car is really "spot on." There are so many things to like about it.

All initial cars came with Hankook's. When they replace the tires, the 3.8 & 5.0 get different manufactured tires.

I can assure you, my 5.0 only has the vibration issue just the first few miles and then no issues after that. Check other dealers and test more cars. Check the tire manufacture first as well then give us an update.

My plan is (if they will let me do it) when I do (2017-2018 timeframe) decide to get the new tires, I am going to see if I can work out a deal with my dealer to pay the difference and get a set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport(Max Performance Summer tire) tires.

I have a possible theory why AWDs would have the symptom but it gets totally thrown out if RWDs also display the same symptom. Hmmmmm. :(

Question and hint: Do we have any knowledgable folks out there who have any idea how much spline travel takes place with the half-shafts during suspension travel?

Check above ckon ... The survey shows that the AWD cars have the least issues. Go figure.

Ah, OK. It's the replacements where the branding is different. The problem for me is that I'm batting 100% for the two test drives whereby the vibration did not go away. The first drive lasted about 30 minutes, this one over an hour. When it is time to buy I will be sure to have some extended time with the vehicle, being sure that there is no vibration, before the John Hancock goes on the dotted line. Thanks...

Yeah, but if I can get my eyes uncrossed enough to draw any conclusions from the (numerically insufficient, so far) data :), the ones with continuing problems are AWD. It'll be interesting to see what more numbers show.

I had 2 sets of Hankook's i set of continentals, and now have Michellins , and the ride stillis rough for 10 to 15 minutes then smooths out some what but the vibration is still there most pronounced at about 80KM & again at about 114km

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought that some people were complaining about vibration at idle (don't recall if that was in Drive or Neutral or both). I also seem to recall that it was much less prominent on the AWD versions. The vibration seemed to change in intensity depending on whether the A/C as on or off (which is very characteristic of cars 20+ years ago).

If this is true, it has nothing to do with the tire flat-spot problem that causes vibration when the car is moving, which is obviously not a concern since Hyundai is replacing the Hankook tires with Michelin's.
