  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Anyone else notice excessive vibration on the 5.0 when running A/C in Park? With the A/C off, it's smooth as silk but with it on, it gets a little rough and modulate in frequency. I may take a video to demonstrate. Thanks, Paul

No prob. here & there definitely shouldn't be a prob. with a V8 - maybe the problem left an error code.

i have the same thing on my 3.8 and it feels like its droning to i have notice the idle drops to 500 so i wonder if thats whats causing the rough idle

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I'm experiencing the same thing on my 3.8 awd ultimate. I took it to my dealer but as usual they couldn't reproduce the problem. My idle also drops to 500. It especially vibrates a lot when the car warms up and the compressor kicks on to cool the car down.

Actually - this is typical for a 4 cyl. eng., esp. an older one - but a V6 and esp. the 5.0 V8 (no offense) should be totally oblivious to the A/C setting.

Again, I would look into error codes - it's amazing what pops up on a code scan. Places like Advanced Auto Parts can run a free scan for you.

If you go to a dealer for warranty service - watch out for limited service on the A/C system. Refrigerant charge covered for one year - beyond that, could have a problem.

Mine idles at about 500 RPM. It doesn't seem any rougher than any other A/C (I've been able to feel the A/C compressor come on in every car I've owned), but the A/C seems to struggle to cool the car at that speed. When I'm stopped at a long traffic light shortly after starting the car (not yet cooled off, A/C blowing on maximum), it'll start to blow slightly cool air instead of cold air. If I raise the engine's speed to about 750 RPM, after a few seconds the A/C starts to blow cold air again. My guess is that they set the idle lower to improve MPG.

I hope you are not referring to the cooling fan issue others are experiencing. The fan gets out of balance and causes heavy pulsating vibrations that can be easily felt from the driver seat. I have a new 3.8 Genesis and feel it when it is very hot and the cooling fan is running in full speed. Other have mentioned that the fan goes out of balance due to balancing weights falling off from the fan.

When you say rough idling do you see a big change in engine RPM?

mine is going back in for the a/c fan balance being off for the second time. they put a new fan on last summer and it fixed the problem, now its back. vibrates the whole damn car just about when the fan cycles on and off. maybe that is what you are feeling. otherwise I have no issue with the car having bad idle. the idle at cold start up is normal to jerk as it is GDI motor and the timing is changed for emission on cold start.

a/c smells according to my wife, but I can't smell it. sun roof still has messed up seal, doesn't leak and I'm leaving it alone until it fails or Hyundai acknowledges the issue. driver's mirror wont go back up sometimes after reversing. just some of the little crap things that annoy me about this expensive ass car. but hey its just about the safest thing on the road right now. sorry for the rant.

yea but i wonder if the 500 is normal i don't think it is

I was wondering if the dealership that you went to figured Anything else out with the rough idle. I'm going to accumulate more miles on my car before I take it back to the dealership since my 1st was visit was unsuccessful for them to duplicate the problem.

Yes we do and if you read other tags (steering vibration/idle/ vibrations you will see them. These are my last few post... I am trying to get everyone to speak up to your customer service:

I have had this issue on my 2015 Ultimate since 7-8K miles. Hyundai has been trying to fix for40K miles and over 20 days in shop and finally they said just a characteristic of car. If it was they would not have tried to fix and if it is it should not be on this class of car.I am in a battle with them and they tell me they have not heard of this from anyone else. They are to call me in a couple of days to discuss options because I want it fixed or replaced. The issue as I see it is the slight vibration is there all of the time but when ac comes on the idle goes up about 150rpm it gets more pronounced if they just idled car different at idle it would cure issue. They say they can not change that setting. This is BS.....

That is when I started up the ladder and talked to lawyer. I left Caddy for this and it is not something a car of this class should be doing. I expect them to confirm today when they call be back what they told me last week that they had done all they can. This will be when I call the lawyer back. Customer Service told me to give them names of people who also have this issue but I have none. I was hoping to get some backing when I joined this forum.

This is a serious issue and needs to be treated as such.

Re: Small vibration in seats during idle

I do not know how to turn that feature on so a little help would be appreciated?
My email is jschellinger1@msn.com and here is where I stand. The Customer service rep has told me this has gone to regional level and they say it is characteristic of the car and they will carry it no farther. He (Elmo Odums) is also telling me they know of no other people with the same issue but then if no one else has mentioned it how do they know its a characteristic of the car. No car of this class should have this characteristic. They are hoping I and now we,will go away but I will not. They tried to stop this for 8 months on my car alone before taking the stance they are taking. They are a large company and do not care about us individually and there will not be a TSB unless everyone starts complaining. My case # is 9729151 (so tell them the number) and because I will not take trinkets for my issues they are trying to close my ticket. If they do I just call back. I just want them to idle the car up ~ 150 rpm more and this will stop or get me in another car without this issue . It is a design flaw.If you steering wheel vibrates and they pass it off this way what will they pass off next. They can pay millions for Superbowl ads but not fix an issue with our cars. Please send me you name and please go on their CS page - NationalCA@hmausa.com <NationalCA@hmausa.com>and send them a message. I am ready to send this issue to the four TV stations in Dallas area for them to investigate as well as Facebook ( I do not have account but wife does). I need your help as well as you need mine. Please write me ....jschellinger1@msn.com Sorry this is long winded but I am mad!

Any one ever find the reason for this vibration problem, Thanks Rob

One theory is that it is a balance problem with the engine cooling fan, but I am not yet convinced.

I'd not be convinced either. Hard to say not actually seeing or feeling it but I've had other cars that would idle rough with the AC on but not on my Genesis. Usually increasing the idle smooths it out. Years ago, some cars with a carburetor had a dashpot that changed when the AC compressor was on.

Dumb question, what fuel grade are you using

Reg fuel grade as the book calls for, as I allways use, never had this oscillating vib at idle before
