  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recall looking at the Genesis when they first hit the states. I was surprised to discover the trunk was not fully finished. I finally was able to purchase one (4.6 Tech) and the trunk is fully finished. Is this something found in the 4.6 or did they start finishing the trunk in all the models?

I am certainly not the authority to answer, but hey when has that stopped me before : ). It wouldn't surprise me that they started finsihing the trunks since many of the automotive magazine reviews (or at least a couple) that I have seen made remarks regarding the exposed speaker and the semi-finished trunk. Slowly but surely they seem to closing the small gaps and that bodes well!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
The V8 comes with the fully fininshed trunk. The V6 does not, but many dealers will order and install the upper trunk cover for free if you ask them to get it approved by Hyundai. Many V6 owners on this forum (including me) have asked the dealer to provide the trunk cover for free and the dealer has complied. Make it part of the "deal" and it's a slam dunk.

I believe that all Genesis models now have the "speaker cover" for the trunk but it was missed on early cars nearly all of which were V6 models. I asked my dealer and they have ordered it for me and will fit it (no charge) at the next oil change.

Had mine installed over 6 weeks ago. Hyundai said they would pay for it. After submitting all the paper work, and at least 3 follow up calls I finally received by check today, minus state tax, so I paid 6% on $216 for their mistake.

I'm happy I got paid but I think it shows that Hyundai has a ways to go with customer service.
That said I still like my car!

This forum is a great tool!!! Thanks to all of you for the info on this thread. I purchased this car for my wife last October, v6, premium and tech. packages. I went to my dealer here in California and told the salesperson who I bought the car from about Hyundai installing this package tray insert/speaker cover for other car owners if they asked. He forwarded this info to the parts manager who contacted some Hyundai rep. and they ok'd it. It was installed the next day in less than 15 min. at no charge. Wow! I am very pleased and not embarrassed anymore when my trunk lid is open. It was more noticeable since my car is white and it looked unfinished, at least to me (us).

I haven't noticed any difference, but I don't drive it that much either it's my wife's car. I doubt though a thin piece of material/cardboard would make a difference in the subs performance, but again I'd rather it look finished.

Thanks, I'll take the risk. I'm not really that impressed by the Lexicon bass as it is, so I doubt it can get that much worse.

Found this thread that had much more information about the rear deck cover: http://genesisowners.com/hyundai-genesis-forum/showthread.php?t=767

If they are lining the V6's now, its been fairly recent. I just got mine Wednesday, with no liner. I specifically asked the dealer for a recent build, because we sometimes travel with a packed trunk and I didn't want to damage the speakers.

He found one with an invoice date of April, but when I checked it, it was unlined. Turns out the mfg date on the sticker in the door jam is Dec 08. He pleaded ignorance on the whole liner issue, and told me to talk to Hyundai.

He also pleaded ignorance on the "rough ride" controversy, which is a little hard to believe, so I suspect he may be following a management directive of "deny". I did notice that the tires had 40 psi in them, but they didn't have a lot of time to prep the car as it came from another dealer.

For what it's worth, I find the ride just fine, but I can see if you live in an area with bad freeways and a long commute, it could get tedious. I drove the infamous stretch of I-10 through Banning CA, and that was no fun. But it sucks in every car I've taken through there. If you want smoother freeways, move to Phoenix. They're all rubberized asphalt, smooth and quiet. But watch out for the photo radar. Its everywhere.

My dealer's service manager had to call their Hyundai rep to get the authorization to do it as a warranty repair. Alternately, you can call Hyundai and get a case number and approval to take to your dealer.

I bought mine Genesis in Oct 08 and it is a great car. I took my car in for service and asked to have the cover installed, no issue free product and no charge install. Just ask your service manager, not the service rep.

I wouldn't have noticed had I not been on this forum. 3.8 Plus Package and no speaker cover installed. Dealership ordered the part and will install; all at no cost to me.

Trunk speaker cover installed. I like the two lights included. Also makes a decent increase in speaker quality from the back. It makes the surround sound seem more crisp. Granted, this isn't like an overhaul of the sound, it just has a slight improvement.
