I installed the airbag today. It was extreamly easy and would have to say the hardest part was disconnecting the battery. Only because I didn't feel like taking out the rubber trunk mat and was bending over while it was on top of my head!

1. Disconnect the battery. I had to put a ball of paper towels under the (-) terminal because there was no slack for it to stay away from the battery.

2. Unscrew the two (star) screws on either side of the steering wheel.

3. Pull SRS towards you and look behind to see whats going on.

4. Disconnect the ground and the 2 black and red plugs. This is where using a very small flat head will come in handy. You need to pop the yellow clips upward to release the plugs.

5. Now the SRS is completely disconnected.

6. Now follow all the steps in reverse to put the new winged badge SRS airbag on and enjoy.

Also remember to follow the instruction in the Hyundai manual for disconnecting the battery.

Not a problem. I took them with my cell phone and was pleased at the quality. First time I've taken pictures with it to actually put on my computer.
 
Awesome explanation and pictures. I am waiting to receive my new airbag and was wondering whether to take it in to the dealership to have it done or risk doing it myself. I may now do it myself.

Great pictures! I installed my own as well a couple of weeks ago, and although it wasn't difficult at all these pictures would have helped. I found it ridiculous to pay a dealer for doing something so simple. The only trick that I really had to overcome was releasing the locks on the two airbag electrical connections, but after about two minutes I figured that out as well. Hopefully this will save others the money as well.

Glad I could help out and contribute to the forum. It was a very simple installation, although I did have to go out any buy the (star) TORX bit. I didn't know what size it was so I purchased one that had 10 different sizes for $15 at a local TrueValue. Kind of expensive, but now it's been added to the tool set.

Where do you get these airbags?
 
The airbags units I've seen advertised say they don't include the inflator and that you need to swap it from original unit. Did you have to do this as well? Would be interested to see how it's done as I'm not mechanically inclined.

I've received the stick on badge, but I'm hesitating installing it, some have commented that the glossy finish doesn't blend in well with the rest of the dash, and looking at your pictures, the airbag unit looks richer and more substantial, just a classier look to it

The airbag unit wings are definitely better, but you really don't notice the difference if you haven't seen them before, i.e. guests don't get in and say "hey, that's an aftermarket badge, why didn't you get the winged airbag?" ;)

It's up to you whether you want to spring for the extra cost. They are nice, you do know the difference, and you are looking at it all the time.

Can you point us to a quote or something indicating that the SRS airbags do not come with the inflator?

The OEM part does come with an inflator, but it looks like many of the eBay sellers are removing the inflator because it becomes expensive or impossible to ship via common carrier due to the solid propellant and ignitors in the mechanism.

I know exactly what you mean about the inflator. What you have seen is exactly that. An airbag that does not come with the inflater. I did notice one selling on Ebay for around $150, and when I saw the price, I right away thought I overpaid, but then noticed the warning explaining the airbag not having the inflator. According the the site I found, you are to remove the part from your OEM airbag and install it with the new one. I'm glad I paid more money and it was pretty much just a "plug-n-play".

If you compare the ebay unit with the complete unit above, it looks like you only need to remove the 8mm nuts to swap the inflator, might screw up my courage and give it a shot & then just need to follow Ashdump's step by step.

It doesn't appear to be a hard retrofit but I am kind of glad when I purchased my winged airbag it came all in one piece. If you think about it though, my old airbag is just collecting dust so it might be worth it. You're saving about $100 which is good.

I sold my airbag on Ebay for $150. Figured get money back instead of having it sit around, so my new winged emblem airbag actually only cost me $95!

Also, I did see the same OEM airbag on ebay for $330!!!! Makes me think I should have sold it for much more, but I'm still happy to have got some dough from the sale.:D

I checked the buyer's profile, and it was some performance parts company. I'm assuming they bought it just to resell it......maybe even because I sold mine too cheap. I would highly recommend just buying the airbag with the inflator, and selling your OEM airbag on Amazon/Ebay.
 
My question has nothing to do with the AirBag.

After you reconnected the battery, did your car drive OK? Did the Transmission shift like it should? Did you still have all your pre-set information in the radio? How about all the Bluetooth info?

I.E. Anything different after you reconnected the battery?
