  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been unable to pair the vehicle Bluetooth system with my phone, or even to enter the process. My 3.8L (without the Technology package) has a phone button on the steering wheel (not the unit in the overhead console as shown in the Quick Reference Guide).

Pushing the phone button to begin the pairing process produces no prompt from the speaker or any other indication that the system is responding to the action. Am I missing something or does this sound like a defect?

Although it's a 2010, I got what was advertised as the "Premium Plus" package on the 2009. In other words, 18" wheels and the rest of the Premium goodies, but no nav system. The salesman never even mentioned the Premium Navigation package.

So what I have is the phone button on the steering wheel, rather than the overhead console, where the manual picture shows the Bluetooth buttons to be. What I have in the console is the sunglasses holder.

That's really, really odd. Because in the '09's, you either had the Johnson Controls BT unit where the sunglasses holder is (i.e. a non-integrated unit) or you had the integrated BT in the Technology Package.

I think the Premium Navigation option in the 2010 has integrated BT. But unless they changed to an integrated BT on the 2010 3.8 without either of the GPS packages, perhaps they didn't install the non-integrated system?

It might be time to drop by your dealer and have them show you (and perhaps see that there's a problem). In fact, I think they were supposed to attempt to pair your phone during delivery when they show you the features of the car. At least my dealer did...they paired my phone and my wife's before we drove off.

So the presence of the button in the steering wheel (rather than as part of the overhead packaged unit) suggests integrated BT?

I don't know. I'm not sure whether all of the steering wheel buttons are the same regardless of the option package. Do you have the adaptive cruise control setting button on your steering wheel (icon of a car with some lines)?

Does anyone have a non-integrated BT with the phone button on their steering wheel?

Nope, no adaptive cruise control. That's part of the Tech package, which I don't have. My steering wheel on the left side has Mode, Mute and the phone icon button. To confuse things even more, the Quick Reference Guide shows a Scan button where my phone button actually is.

Yeah, I just went through the picture albums until I found a 2009 3.8 without Tech, and it has Mode/Mute/Scan on the left side. The 2009 Tech has Mode/Voice Command/Phone.

I guess that does imply that that they may have integrated the BT. It's wierd that the 2010 manual would not reflect that.

The big manual actually refers you to another manual for Bluetooth, which I apparently don't have... another reason to visit the dealer. It's only the Quick Reference Guide that shows the overhead console picture and the Scan button on the steering wheel. Probably that small manual is a 2009 version.

Thanks for your time and input.

I just looked up the 2010 owner's manual and it does look like there's an integrated system now. Have you followed the instructions starting on page 4-145?

I thought this section applied to the Tech package, because I have the Mute button where the voice command icon button is in the picture, so I ignored it. Hmm... maybe the Mute button is mislabeled and I've been pushing the wrong button all this time.

I got it. The Bluetooth setup is in the audio menu (accessed by pushing the tuning button). The manual doesn't tell you this.

Oh yeah... and it is the integrated system. Nearly blew me out of my seat the first time I received a call... LOL.
