In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. In the center vent in the back seat - no matter what I do - it's blowing hot air. And when I say hot - I mean SUPER hot. It's too hot to put my kids back there when it's blowing. Doesn't matter if you turn the dial on the vent hot or cold.

A/C is fine up front and in the side vents in the back.

The ONLY way I've been able to make it stop in the center back vent is to put the A/C on manual and crank the temperature all the way - past the degrees selection - down to LOW. It then stops spewing the hot air and doesn't put out any air at all.

I've called the dealer back - and they remember this happening on another Genesis they sold - but they don't remember how they fixed it.

Not seeing anything obvious in the owners manual.

Anyone have any ideas?

Fiste,

I had the same thing happen as far as SUPER hot air blowing out the back center vent on the kids. It seemed like the wheel kept spinning back to hot. We moved it to cold and it took a while but it did seem to cool off (without having to crank the air all the way down).

I am going to keep my eye on it more closely now that I know someone else is experiencing the same thing..

On day 1 my rear vent dial was on "hot" (not a good idea when it is 90+ outside), but after I dialed it to blue the rear center switched to cold after about 30 seconds.

Hmmm. The dial is definitely on blue. Not sure what is going on. It'll be going back to the dealer repair shop pretty quickly if I can't figure something out.

I'm pretty excited to have found this site! Just ordered the front and rear Genesis badges and the center wheel caps.

DITTO for me. Discovered this issue yesterday during first road trip in the car. On the way to the Genesis Road Show I noticed that every 30-45 minutes the A/C [running in auto mode @ 72] would crank itself to max for several minutes, then go back to normal. Then, on the way home, reached around to the back seat to deposit an empty bottle and stuck my arm in front of the rear vent which was blowing SUPER hot air. Never having ridden in the rear seat I didn't know there were two dials [on/off & temp] so I was tinkering with them blind while running Alligator Ally at around 80. Eventually it started pumping cooled air. And, the A/C never again did its crank up to max. When I got home and climbed in back I noticed the two dials and tinkered a bit. My experience agrees with Simon's, in that after a LAG the rear does go from hot to cold. If the front vents were to put out that much heat in the Winter, you wouldn't be able to drive. It's almost as though there is a supplemental heater [thinking 1800W hair dryer here] in the rear duct that is activated by the heat dial.

I think we definitely need some dealer feedback here, especially if it is a "dial creep" issue. It is really undetectable if you are driving alone.

For the record, I noted this problem tonight for the first time (although 90+% of my miles are solo, so who knows if it's been happening more often?). The temp setting on the rear center vents was on "cold" (blue), but the air flow was pretty damn warm. Then I turned the rheostat to red and it came out REALLY hot. But even on the blue setting it was unpleasantly warm, and I couldn't get it to cool off much before I gave up and turned the car off.

As a wise man once said, "once is a fluke, twice is a trend". Perhaps for some, this is just a function of a temp control that works it's way to the blue/hot setting for some reason, but for Fiste and me at least, something else is afoot, as I was unable to cool 'er down despite where it was set. I guess I'll keep an eye (hand) on this for a while before I decide how to proceed.

For those of you who tend to drive without backseat passengers, you might want to stick your hand back there now and then and see if this is happening with your car, too.

Thanks for the feedback. I didn't get a chance to call the dealer today - but plan to tomorrow. Now that it seems to be more than a fluke - I'm going to see if there's some way to escalate this with Hyundai.

I'll be in touch!

I'm taking mine into the dealer on Saturday to have it checked out. I'll report back after that.

Well, the dealer and I got crossed up so they didn't have anyone available to look at this on Saturday. They are calling Hyundai and then they are going to get with me on this to set up another appointment.

I'll post more when I hear back.

Well according to the service folks at the dealer, one of the two actuators for the air conditioning needs to be replaced to fix this. They've ordered the part - so now I get to make my third trip to the dealer next week to have it replaced and fixed for good hopefully.

Fiste,

Do you need the service because your rear vent wouldn't go to cold or because when it is set to hot it gets too hot? I think it is the former but if it is the latter, then several of us may need some type of service.

Mine has been staying in the cold position but if you move it to hot it gets really, really hot...

Rear vent only ranges from very hot to SCALDING hot on the dial - but only when I have the temperature set to a particular degree setting up front. If I take the temperature all the way to 'low' and then manually operate the fan - the rear vent doesn't blow at all.

I've never been able to get it to blow anything resembling 'cool' air in the back seat.

Back to service today for the THIRD time.

The service dept has now confirmed that this is a known issue in what they termed a 'small rash' of the Genesis'.

Of course this was after they after they had me up there for 5 hours to replace a part that didn't fix the problem. Then someone actually had the bright idea to CALL HYUNDAI...

They're supposedly re-manufacturing the door around the air box that controls the vents. I don't know if there will be a recall or what.

So after three wasted mornings of trips to service (90 minute round trips) approx ~70 miles - and several hours of my life sitting in their waiting rooms, here we are...

They said they'd call me when they know something more - but they were pretty non-committal.

I'm not sure if I definitely have this problem or not. I just picked up my new Genesis and I did notice super hot air blowing out from the rear vents. I turned the air volume down and turned the temp dial down to cold and it did seem to help the problem but I need to test it some more. Even if it does work correctly, it should not put out that much heat in the first place. Besides the heat there was a bit of a exhaust/burning smell from the rear vents. I'm hoping that this just because the car is new and maybe smell is from some factory oils. If not, this could be a bigger problem.

Hi racerx here. Have had my car a month now and I can't get the grin off my face! FYI. On a road trip to Cape Cod activated the rear seat heat for my passanger, when I got to Mass. I opened up the arm rest holder and cup holder, both were blazing hot. Just had the tech look over the car he said all was well, however we both concluded this could be the start of something. Check out your systems. Gotta go can't wait to share more stories and to gwet to know some of ya'll when time allows. Drive well, drive fast, drive safe!

Always,

Stuart

Same here, on a recent trip (first one with a rear passenger) the person "complained" about hot air coming out of the rear central vents. After some investigation the cupholders were "hot" as well.
I dont think it's the heating system that's messed-up, but warm engine air flowing through the tunnel that's entering into the car. Just my non-educated guess.

I was able to get mine resolved, but it required an actual repair at a dealer that required a few days for them to fix.

It ended up being a problem with a set of actuators I believe that were installed improperly when the car was made.

Have had my 6 cyl for about 400 miles. Today the system malfunction light came on; the AC was cutting on and off ; and extremely hot air was coming out of the vents to the back seats . Took the car to the dealer and they said they had not seen this problem before . Kept the car in service and gave me a free rental . Don't know when I'll get the car back . Not happy in Florida especially after I just got done bragging to all my friends about how great a company Hyundai is . Marty
