In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi all. I have a 2010 4.6 with Tech package. I was disappointed that I couldn't stream music from my iPhone via bluetooth. Well, now I can.

I bought a Belkin bluetooth music receiver (there are other brands out there as well) and it works beautifully in my car. Belkin makes two versions, one for use in the home and one for your car. The one for home use is $49.99 and the one for the car is $79.99. The difference between the two is that the home version comes with a 5 volt AC power adapter that you plug into the wall and the one for the car comes with a 5v power adapter for the power port in the car. The receiver in the car version also has a microphone built in for phone calls.

I didn't want to pay the extra $30 for the car version, especially because I don't want or need the microphone since the Genny already has a bluetooth system that works great with my phone.

Since the USB port in the car already puts out 5 volts I modified the power cord that came with the home version to work with the USB in the car. It is really easy to do and costs nothing if you have an old USB cable lying around.

1. Cut the power cord off about 6 inches from the end with the connector that plugs into the receiver.

2. Remove about a half inch of the insulation from the two wires. Note that one of the wires has white stripes on the outside covering and the other one is just black.

3. Cut off one end of your USB cable, again about 6 inches long is plenty.

4. Strip off the black insulation from about an inch of the USB cable. Remove the wire mesh shielding as well.

5. There are 4 wires in a USB cable, white, green, red and black. Strip off about a half inch of the insulation from the red and black wires. You can clip off the white and green wires since you don't need them for data transfer.

6. Solder (or tape) the black wire from the USB cable to the black wire with white stripes from the power cord.

7. Solder (or tape) the red wire from the USB cable to the black wire from the power cord.

8. Plug the connector end of your new USB power cord into the receiver and the USB end into the USB port in your console.

9. Plug one end of the stereo mini-jack cable that comes with the receiver into the receiver and the other end into the AUX in port in the console.

10. Pair your phone with the Belkin, switch your audio unit to AUX and ENJOY!

Some reviews I read on the Belkin unit said that the sound quality was not very good. To my ear it sounds great - at least as good as XM, if not better. It is great to be able to stream Pandora, Radio Paradise, Slacker, etc. in the Genny!

It seems like...advertising...isn't it?

Did you refer on youtube video on Extending Belkin bluetooth range?

Hi Powerline. As with sending email, when posting on a forum intent and nuance can be lost or misinterpreted by the reader. Maybe I'm misinterpreting your response, but you seem to be saying that you thought my post was meant to promote or advertise a particular product. Perhaps I should have disclaimed my original post with, "I am in no way connected to Belkin and could care less if you buy another brand of bluetooth receiver". My intent was simply to provide other Genesis tech package owners who want to be able to stream music from their phone to their Lexicon unit an example of how I did it. I am truly sorry if I offended you or others.

You lost me when you asked if I referred to a video about extending the range of the bluetooth receiver?? In the car, the phone is never more than a couple of feet from the receiver, so there is no need to extend the range?

Best regards, Wana.

"You Lost"?

This is not a competition. this is a forum...

It's only my humble opinion..who cares?

Um, what? You read the OPs post as advertising, how? He explained how he modified a bluetooth audio receiver-device-thing to work with 5v from the USB rather than 5v from a DC adapter, saving people $30, if they wanted bluetooth A2DP streaming...

Then your response is to accuse him of advertising, ask him about some unrelated video, then reply to his "oops my bad, I didn't mean to offend anyone" post with a bunch of nonsensical and impossible to follow quotes and responses?

Op, thanks for the info. I'm probably going to do this this week.

Dude... you might wanna up your meds. This was suppose to be a tip to make something work a bit better than its intent.

Wana, don't worry about "powerline", he or she apparently doesn't even own a Genesis. Your post was informative and if what you did works, it will certainly please some people on this forum who want stream music in their Genesis w/ Tech.

Thanks for the supportive responses. I hope others enjoy reading my post and find the information useful.

lol. I agree.
What's the deal with this guy? No wonder why parents tell their kids not to play near a powerline.
Thanks for the tip, OP. That's an excellent idea.

Is this what you're talking about?http://www.belkin.com/IWCatProductPage.process?Product_Id=508754

I couldnt find the car version, as I would rather pay the 30 bucks then hack up some wires. I know its simple but I've had a few "bad" experiences and would rather not go that route. Also when you say it plugs into the power port on the car are you talking about the usb or the cigarette lighter? I had this functionality in my 2010 Tundra which I traded for this car and really miss being able to stream pandora.

wouldnt this work better without all of the cutting and splicing?[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Miccus-BluBridge-mini-jack-Rx-Bluetooth/dp/B0038MA11U/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1293570798&sr=8-3"]Amazon.com: Miccus BluBridge mini-jack Rx: Portable, Bluetooth Music Receiver with Stereo Output (1/8_Inch) for Home and Auto systems: Electronics[/ame]

Sambeaux, yes that is the Belkin receiver I am using. I saw the car version at my local Apple Store. Yes, I'm sure the mini jack receiver would work just fine. By "power port" I mean the cigarette lighter type 12 v outlet in the console of the Genesis next to the USB.

Thanks for the heads up on the Belkin Bluetooth adapter. I followed all of the directions and at first it seemed to be working just fine. After it plays for a little while it begins to start wobbling and won't play a steady stream. Did you ever have that happen? I have double checked the wiring and even switched the wires but I am still having the same problem. It is very inconsistent, some times it will connect and play just fine. Do you have any idea on what might be causing this wobbling issue?

Judge, I have had zero problems with streaming music. Do you experience the "wobbling" even when streaming from the iPod? Occasionally mine will cut out because my cell signal gets weak and streaming radio will drop out, but never happens when playing the iPod.

With this hookup, can you still make/answer calls on the iPhone via the Genesis Bluetooth link? Meaning! IPhone would pair with both and switch automatically?

Yes, it works seamlessly.

Cool, I guess the A2DP works magic - haven't tried it yet. Your note made me think of the possibilities, so I'm going to start looking at something like Micuus BluBridge Rx and Jabra Bluetooth Adapter, unless someone has a better recommendation.

Thanks.

I use a Blackberry Bluetooth Gateway with my droid incredible in by 2011 4.6 and it works beautifully. The sound quality is very good and I am able to send and receive calls with no problems.

If the bluetooth on my phone is active when I start the car it pairs automatically. I have it powered via the USB port, but am going to try and power it via the 12v so I can get the use of my USB port back for music.

To solve the power drain issue I use the outlet in the ash tray to power my droid when I am using the bluetooth streaming function.

While this is a fun hack, it should not have been needed. Hyundai should have have provided A2DP in the Genesis Tech Pkg. It's in the Sonata. Also, better ID3 tag reading and randomization between folders on CD/DVD and USB music files would have been nice.

I'm not as technical as you are, guys.
I'm using Grantwood Technology's FM Transmitter and Car Charger for iPhone 4.
Works flawlessly transmitting any music (or any sound) from my iPhone over car speakers. Now, is there an advantage of using bluetooth receiver over this one?
