  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I picked up my V8 with tech package on the weekend and was surprised when I openend the trunk.

I had read some posts about the exposed subwoofer but when I took a look it turns out the speaker is actually hidden under a liner.

Is this a new feature in reaction to customer and analyst reactions?

Cheers

Thomas

That's very interesting. The V6 tech package I bought last month does not have a liner. It would be good to know if those of us without the liner can have one retro fitted.

Could you post some photos? Is the liner fairly sturdy?

Here is a picture of the trunk cover. The material is relatively soft.

Cheers

Thomas

Wow!

I have to find part number for that cover ASAP. My Genesis does not have this, nor does any Genesis I've seen. I think this must be a running change they made based on complaints. Good job Hyundai! (Too bad for us early adopters)

I wonder if the cover is standard feature on the 4.6 V8 Genesis. Any other 4.6 owners have this cover?

My V6 does not have this. I want one installed as well.

I have the cover and a Carge Net that was listed at one point as an option.

What is needed is for someone to go to a dealer and see if the new V6s have the trunk lining.

I have to believe this is a running change as all the V8 cars that were tested by the major automotive press did not have this cover. Then again, I could be wrong. I think I'll check out some new V6s at the dealership this weekend (if I get time).

I just emailed the salesman that sold me the Genesis (with the picture) and asked him to research it too. Not sure if EVH is still part of this forum but it would be great to hear from him on this topic too.

I checked our V8 and it has a cover, too. I was going to pull it down and see if there was a part number in it, but it appears to be pop-riveted to the metal rear shelf. So, I checked the parts catalog. The part number seems to be 85720-3M000-BR. Retails for $143.23. Per the catalog, it is specific to the 4.6. Here are the parts catalog screenshots:

It's # 85720E:

Great info, EVH...thanks! The $64K question is "will the trim assembly fit into a V6 trunk"? It seems unlikely that there are dimensional differences between the two, but if the liner can be retrofitted onto 3.8Ls, I expect HMA will see a flurry of orders for this part by current owners.

Ed -

Your contributions to these forums are great. Thanks for all the great info and observations. If I lived in Atlanta I would definately buy a car from you.

The assembly "should" fit. The part number for the side trim panels and the trim panel on the back side of the rear seat are the same for the V6/V8, so in theory, the space where the new carpeted panel goes is the same as the empty space on the V6 models. The only issue I see right now is that the panel is riveted in place, as near as I can tell and is not easily removable nor easy to install without drilling and using a rivet-gun.

Thomaspf,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and for the photo! Just got off the phone with my salesman. He talked to his Regional Manager who confirmed (if this is correct info) that V-6s made after July have the trunk liner. They ordered it and will put in in for no cost.

After seeing EVH's post, I am a little concerned when I hear "rivets", but hopefully it will work out.

I'm curious what the benefit to this is...

I've yet to check out my v6 tech to see if I have this "lining"... Maybe something was lost in translation....

For me I am concerned that the Lexicon speakers, particularly the sub woofer that hangs low, would be impacted by a large item being pushed in the trunk. For example, a large suitcase or a suitcase on top of another suitcase. A liner would provide some degree of protection for these items, particularly if it is of rigid form.

I have asked the dealer I purchased from if they can order and retro fit the item. Still waiting for an answer.
