  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Or is it head rest? Anyway... I searched for this one and didn't see it covered, hence the new thread.

I get in and out of the driver's seat on average, 4 times each day. For SOME reason, my headrest keeps moving up! I know that I've read that the headrests are 'active' in the case of a rear-end crash, but.... this is spooky.

OK experts... thoughts??

Phil,

Good to see another Texan here.

My headrest moves up too. I often have to put it back down. I am currently engaged in the J.D. Powers survey and I reported it there (this is the long-version feedback survey conducted for Hyundai).

Hey Eliott!

I know there are a few of us in Texas, but I haven't seen too many here in this forum. I know the moderators are wanting to do a state by state 'registry'.

The headrest thing doesn't bother me really. I'm tall, and when it is all the way up, it's fine. It's just one of those oddities! Not oddity like the way my 19yr old son likes to walk around shirtless with his boxers showing. Odd like the way I never lose Bic pens, but will lose an expensive pen in 7 days. Things that make you go hummmmmm.

Howdy Boys. I've been on the forum for several months, but finally picked up my Genesis on the 31st. I love this car. Drove it from Dallas down to Cedar Creek this weekend. Amazingly quiet other than when I have the stereo blasting.

3.8 Premium Plus in Platinum with KDM badges,

I have not experienced this levitating headrest. However, the forward/backward lower tilt moves too easily. I wish it had slightly more resistance to hold its position longer.

Just came across this thread, I thought I was the only one experiencing this. It is a little odd but not a problem. I was wondering if it is slowly "walking" up from the way I am getting in and out. Then all of a sudden it just stopped moving up. It has been 3 weeks now and no movement-go figure!

Thanks for the bump of this post. I meant to look for it today but forgot.

I'm experiencing the same thing: every 3 or 4 days I notice that it's crept up again! WTH?
Not a big deal, but certainly puzzling.

Haven't seen this happen in my G yet. I now will be looking for it! Should be fine as long as they work as designed for everyone if involved in an accident!

:eek:I SAW IT:eek:

Forgive my sillyness....but, sometimes I like to just go outside and look at Gen. I will crawl in the seats, play with the buttons and admire the detail.

Well, last night I crawled in the back seat and just sat...as I usually do, and looked around to make sure everything was in order for the next drooling passenger when I SAW IT!!! It was like Austin Powers seeing the MOLE for the first time...:D mole...Mole...MOLEY MOLEY MOLE!

Well, I then put it back down to match the all the other headrest. I thought I had just missed it when I had my other trips to visit Gen in the driveway...until I viewed this thread.

Ill be keeping my eye on that!

This is too funny, but I was just looking at it today and I thought "wow the headrest is up again". I thought it was my teenage+ boys playing a trick on the old man again. Its not really a problem, like others are saying, its just odd.

Haven't noticed this yet in the Genny. This always happened in the Mazdaspeed 6 I traded in. Figured it was caused from seat movement while getting in and out.

You understand, of course, that the headrest gremlins will get you if you continue this thread.

Now that I've thought about this...

I experimented last night (after pushing the damn thing down again). The headrest SHOULD lock in whatever position you choose. You can hear the 'click' at each stop, but the reason it keeps riding up over time is because it does not lock. I tried it at each click, and sure enough could pull it up or push it down except at the top position where it locked perfectly. So that leaves the question:
Does the headrest have to be in a specific position (locked) for the electronic restraint to work? I didn't check the manual, but I doubt it would address that question specifically (since Hyundai didn't likely create this problem as a feature).
Anyway, other than calling this a defect and replacing the headrest or assembly, I'm not sure a dealer could do anything to fix this. I'll ask at my first oil change.

My headrest will lock in each position, preventing it from being pushed down but it can be pulled up without pushing the unlock button. The Mazda's headrest worked in the same way. For some reason, of which I know not why, I think it's designed this way. If you can push it down without pressing the unlocked button, I think you've got an issue. That Mazda drove me nuts with this (way worse than the Genny). I pretty much cured the problem in the Mazda but I really don't think you wanna know how. Yuck!

you're right, I'm wrong: I can pull it up, but not push it down. (I think I experimented after getting my wine on.)
Still wondering about the electronic restraint though...
Would love to hear the Mazda story.

My passenger side does not raise up on its own but the drivers side will.
Tonight I put a piece of plastic electrical tape (sticky) on the bar that does not have the notches, I did not let it over lap. The head rest will no longer raise up on its own and I can still raise it and the tape does not come off.
I always keep my head rest at the lowest position so depending on where you keep the head rest you will want to position the tape. I placed my tape on the post so that it can not be seen. I hope this will help. I think duct tape would be to thick.
This will work for me until there is a fix and if there is no fix this will be just fine.

Interesting idea. I'll give that a try. Friction.... novel concept :D
