  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've only had this '12 w/premium for a few weeks so far but I'm wondering about this thing. It doesn't accept no for an answer so to speak. You go the way it wants or else-u-turn, u-turn, u-turn. You'd think it could "recalculate" and straighten things out but I guess not.
I tried to find a local 7-11 and the first things that pop up are 200 miles away! Hopefuly both it and I will continue to learn(LOL)!

Hmm with my system (also in my 2012) the Nav quickly uses the next street to reroute if I pass the "make a legal u-turn" point. I played with it today and after departing the suggested route the Nav almost instantly rerouted.

I've played with factory NAV in more than a few cars and IMHO aside from the fact that it is integrated (no wires, nothing attached to dash) a portable is overall a better GPS. Actually, my favorite GPS is the Google Maps app on my Android phone. It even shows a picture of your location when you get there.

google maps on the i phone does the same. Garmin and google are both better than the integrated system.

Just for my experience, some other built-in GPS systems were way easier to use than the Genesis'. The Lexus' touch screen system was better and even the one in my Mazda 3 is superior.
:D The other day I had to use the built-in GPS in my cheap phone instead of the fancy Genesis GPS (couldn't figure out how to enter the city and did not know the correct street from a long list of possibilities).

I've experienced the U-Turn problem also...

I'm still experimenting with it, but it seems like if I turn prior to the suggested turn the unit will in fact reroute quickly; however, if I over shoot "drive past" the suggested turn I get the U-Turn message over, and over, and over... finally it stops but I didn't notice how long or how far you have to travel before it stops...

Yea I have a Garmin 1300 LMT and won't be dispensing with it. PLUS it shows elevation as well. There is on reason why this 8" screened NAV system should be, well, user "unfriendly"...

I find the GPS NAV in my car worthless. Now that I know it's a mess I don't even both to activate it by pushing that button. I'd rather just see that legal warning screen.

Because why?
I just did a 2500 mile round trip where it perfomed flawlessly, including POI's.
What specifically is your bitch?

An update is definately needed where the city can be input before the street. I had the same issue on a recent destination with 53 street possibilities throughout my whole state. Ironically if you use the voice function working the navigation it did ask the city BEFORE the street and I was able to navigate to my destination. Try this until they update this system flaw and please do send some e-mails to TPTB to motivate their programmers...

I've used many NAVs including portable ones, Builtin ones from Audi, Acura, lexus, Honda, and I have to say the genny tech nav is among the best.

Wow! I must have really gotten a great NAV system with my '12 3.8 w/premium. When I go to enter a destination using the touch screen, I can chose to enter street or city first.

Once I have my destination and am on my way, if I turn before the proper turn on the NAV, it recalculates immediately. If I overshoot a turn, it recalculates immediately. Sometimes, the recalculation will require a u-turn if the area is rural or if I exited the highway unexpectedly (for a cup of coffee, say).

The POI allowed me to enter a golf course by name and it found about 20 with similar names, but it put the one I was looking for at the top of the list.

The only thing I would like to be able to adjust is the volume of the "Ding" to remind me to turn. I know how to adjust the volume of the voice, but that "Ding" seems to always be the same (i.e. LOUD) no matter the voice level.

All in all - I am more than happy with the NAV in my '12 Genesis. :)

My gripe with the Navigation system is that it seems to take no note of traffic in its routing. At least not that I can tell. And it definitely takes no note of traffic in calculating the time to the destination. My Navigon iPhone app will recalculate my route in progress if traffic changes, and update my time of arrival. The Genesis nav system seems much more rudimentary.

I haven't missed a single turn, nor had any "u-turn" moments in 3 months. Though not as sharp or "pretty" as my Garmin... this is a very VERY good navigation system. Sounds like you're either in a location that doesn't have very accurate mapping, or you have a bad unit / antenna / something.

My blackberry nav ALWAYS did that sort of stuff to me. I believe it was google-based.

Your built-in Nav system does not have access to the Internet (like iPhone), nor does it have FM traffic (at least I assume it doesn't), so obviously it cannot take live traffic into account. Keep in mind that you are probably paying $30 a month for a data plan that allows your iPhone to get live traffic updates (albeit, you use the data plan for other things also).

I don't know how it works, other than through XM, but the Genesis nav system certainly does have access to live traffic information. After all, it tells me where all the local traffic incidents are, and even tells me what the average speed is with each one. So I'm not sure why it couldn't use that information when it calculates routes.

Just took mine on a trip. It does get real confused if you change the route any at all. Also, some roads have been changed, so every now and then, it shows me going through a pasture, or something. I talked the the dealership, and they want $350 to update the map. Don't think so.....I'll pull my Garmin back out. That's robery. It cost them nothing to get the CD. They use the same on on everyone's car.

I am having the same problem in that it will not recalculate- U Turn after U turn or turn right at next intersection. For 130 miles she was bound and determined I was going to go back to her trip plan. (Highways both ran east and west however 30 miles apart. Only after there was no option to get me back to initial route did it recalculate and send me in the south side of the city instead of the north.
Had it in to Hyundai several times but no answer yet. HELP

I just purchased a new 2013 RSpec and would like to update the maps. I went to the web site specified in the manual and there was no mention of any map update. Anyone know what I need to do to do the update?

As far as I know, it has to be done by the dealer. Price ~$200.00
