  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Greetings folks, I'll be heading to Seoul next week as part of a contingent of fellow Hyundai enthusiasts. If you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback for the ears of Hyundai, please post those thoughts here.

Here you go. I am sure I will have more once I get the car. I finally put down a deposit and should have it next week.
  • Will Car play be available on cars that have been intially released.
  • Will there be an app to allow you the choice when using the Auto Start function from your cell phone to have the flashers no flash?
  • Will there be an R-SPEC version in the coming years?

Heated steering wheel and rear seats on non-AWD cars

Soft close doors and other KDM features

AWD V-8

More USB power in front and rear

Bluetooth CarPlay connection

In addition:
- when will apps be available in the download center?
- when will the ability to 'read' text messages be available?
- why are there no LED fog lights on 3.8 in US market?
- why a different DRL set up across trims?
- why 18" wheels on 3.8 when even the Azera has 19"?
- would be nice to be able to lower windows via key fob
- ability to turn on seat heaters via Genesis app
- Active Lane Assist tends to push me off the road at off ramps....
- turn signal and high-beam indicators in HUD
-

On my 2009, I could enter voice destinations that referred to the Address Book by saying "Navigate to XYZ." The 2015 has no way to access the address book by voice although manual encourages users to put frequently used addresses in the address book. This is a nasty omission. Can this be fixed by a software update?.

Yeah, what’s up with that ?

At least on Ultimates, you can already use Siri Eyes free to read and send Text messages and e-mails if you use an iPhone.

Absolutely on these:
- would be nice to be able to lower windows via key fob (unlock + hold unlock)
- turn signal and high-beam indicators in HUD
- when will apps be available in the download center?

Plus:
- Will Apple CarPlay be available on initial release 2015 Genesis?
- Rear seat USB power (2 USB @ 5V; 12W 2.4A)
- LED fog lights as a dealer installable option

It should be obvious that HMA (Hyundai Motor America) made that decision, and pretty much all decisions about differences in trim levels for USA market. One only needs to see what Hyundai Canada decided to include in terms of trim/option levels to see that the USA options are a local decision based HMA's understanding of the local competitive market, not a decision made in Korea.

Also obviously, HMA decided they cannot keep all KDM options and still be competitive on price in the USA market, so if one option gets added, which one do you want to remove? I am not saying that I agree with all their choices, but I can understand that they cannot keep all KDM options and expect to sell very many Genesis cars in the US. Once automakers group options into Trim Levels, some people are always going to unhappy that a particular option is not included in the Trim level they want.

In other words, it is a good question, but probably don't need to send someone to Korea to get the answer. Someone in HMA in California should be able to answer it.

I asked my dealer about the CarPlay and here's the reply :

You actually caught me at the right time! Hyundai's national trainer on the Genesis and Equus is visiting our dealership today. I asked him your question, and he says they are working on making Apple Carplay integrate into the Genesis' system. He said for sure it will be available on later model Genesis, but he was not sure if it will be available as a software update to the 2015s. He said he is going to get in touch with the factory and find out for me. But, he said his understanding is that it will be available as a software update. He did not know when. So.... I'll let you know!

Mark 888-- I absolutely get the marketing need to set those difficult feature lines. Personal experience with my software company. But I think they may be missing an after market income stream from those of us that might like to add x,y,z. I also understand that aftermarket needs to be managed, but that can be an income center of its own. And/or have some of their dealers set up as 'super dealers' who can do after market adds if they want to manage quality and warranty issues. The software can be created to auto recognize the add ons, or have a dealer unlock code to be sure that the fees have been paid.

I think there are valid, profitable ways to handle getting the KDM options into the US models.

I didn't say those are not good questions. I said those decisions are made in the USA at HMA in California. No need to go to Korea to ask those questions (unless someone from HMA who made those decisions happens to be there and is willing to talk to them during their visit).

But not sure that auto manufacturing is like software (which has zero marginal manufacturing cost). Setting up customizable options can just add to the manufacturing cost. That's why they have "Trim Level" with fixed options, instead of the old days where a customer could order a car with any combination of options they wanted.

I would really like to know the answer as to why Bluelink is not available on any Hyundai in Canada. Is this something to do with government approval or something of the sort?

While I understand HMA most likely made the decision on how to spec out various trims, I guarantee corporate is interested to know if they hit the mark. Especially if they are hearing one thing from HMA management and another from the customer base. Again, it can't hurt to ask while you have an audience. The reality is, while it may seem small to an executive, little things like the lack of LED fog lights may in fact sway someone from NOT buying the car. Especially considering the lower models (Sonata, etc...) have them. It is illogical.

This was driving me nuts too until I realized that you can still do this. They changed "navigate" to "go". So say "go home" now and it will work. Crazy but true. (at least this works on the 5.0 Ultimate)

I don't think it is "small" and maybe a good idea to complain, but they aren't to know "why" unless someone from HMA is there to explain how they made that decision. Maybe I am wrong, and someone from HMA will be there who can explain it. OTOH, just about every single customer has a complaint about what is, or is not, included in a particular Trim Level. I would pay extra to not have the moon roof, and get extra headroom of the Base Trim that has no moon roof.

You're missing the point. Why would the premium version of a lineup not have all the bells and whistles? I have the 3.8 Ultimate and would expect there to not be anything missing (I understand the fact that the power train pieces would be different based on engine choice). I did not get the 5.0 simply because I wanted to get high 20s mpg on the highway but I did get the ultimate because I wanted all that came with it.

Same goes for the heated rear seats. Why only on the AWD?

I do agree that HMA most likely configured all this but corporate I am sure has some input and most likely can influence certain things, especially if it hurts sales.

That is a separate point, and I can address that. When the Genesis was first introduced to the USA market in 2009, it also did not have all the KDM options. But the KDM version was $17K more expensive than the top of the line V8 Genesis in the US. Obviously, HMA did not feel (and I believe correctly so) that the USA market could support the Genesis at that price point. The Korean market is quite different, since there is a huge loyalty to domestic brands in Korea.

Same thing with 2015 model. They already bumped up the price of the top of the line V8 by almost $10K in the US (2015 V8 Ultimate vs 2014 R-Spec), and probably thought (I believe correctly so) that they would be getting too close to E Class and 5 Series if they went higher. Both MB and BMW have been heavily discounting their cars (below their MSRP) in the USA market in recently years.

But again, these may be legitimate questions, but those decisions are made by HMA, not Hyundai Motor Korea.

In tech package 3.8, it won't save the option to disable chime on saved location. It reverts back to On. Bug fix soon?
