2015/2016 Generation Genesis "Dislikes"

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Hello!

I have a Caspian Black 2015 AWD 3.8 base model with black interior. I love this car but there are a few annoying things:

1. The placement of the USB,AUX, and cigarette lighter is horrible. I wish they were in the center console compartment and not in front of the stick shift There is no good place to charge my phone or connect my ipod w/o wires everywhere.

2. No cigarette lighter in the rear for passengers to charge their electronics
<snip>

Overall I do love the car!

I think they should keep the charger up front, but should also add chargers to the center console as well as the rear console as well.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Turning a 'dislike' into a "we did that on purpose" 'like'.
Try checking if the door or doors are actually locked on an auto proximity sensed locking system. It's pretty hard to do if the key fob is with you because every time you touch the door handle to verify that the doors are actually locked you will have asked the system to unlock the door .
While I would prefer the Genesis to not use the exterior push button system it uses today the auto lock system on my Audi S5 drove me crazy when washing the car because every time my washing brush or drying cloth passed over the door handles the car would lock or unlock constantly.

Good way to look at it....washing brushes, towels, heck even running water, the trick is with that system you have to drop the keys inside the car while washing.... look for the security system red LED flashing to verify it's locked. I will say the push button on the genesis is 100 accurate, whereas the touch sensitive ones often miss on lock, which is annoying when youre in a rush...

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

My CL55 was touch sensor to unlock, push button to lock. You get the best of both worlds, but if you're already paying for the button the touch sensor is an added expense.

I would actually prefer a style of door handle that stays dry, like some of the flush mounted pulls (example in picture below).

Completely unrelated, but I'll also post a list of things I'd rather have than LED fog lights:

 • LED DRLs
 • Active curve illumination
 • Soft-close doors
 • Heated steering wheel with RWD
 • LED front turn signals
 • Rear fog lights
 • Twin-turbo V8 :D
I don't encounter conditions where fog lights would be useful often enough (ever), so they're not useful to me.

Yet you listed you'd want rear fog lights??

Yet you listed you'd want rear fog lights??

They are mandatory in almost all of Europe and the vehicles sold there are delivered from the factory with this option, in fact I know the Saudi Genesis does have these. Basically a second set of red lights that must be used in foggy conditions for better visibility for drivers approaching from the rear. They are red lights with the intensity of a normal brake light that can be switched on. Really not on my list of things to get.

I know what they are (and I beleive it is typically only 1 single fog light for the rear). My question was because they said they never have need for front fog lights as they pretty much never drive in foggy conditions - but then said they'd like to have rear fog lights??

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

That may be however the Genesis comes with 2 of them. Where we have reflectors, they have rear fogs. Scroll down a bit on this page. http://www.hyundai-saudiarabia.com/en/index.php?car_id=34

Pretty interesting list of features there. I think the features I would want the most from that list are the surround view of the car and I never thought I'd say this, but the soft close doors. It's impossible as it stands to close these doors quietly (something that becomes apparent when your kids' bedrooms are right off the garage).

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Dislikes in the first 10k miles:

Sunroof rattles when fully open, began after about 8k miles. Should be an easy fix at the dealer but annoying anyway. Also agree with some others that it should open a lot more than it does.

The door seals squeak constantly over any bumps. I need to probably grease them but haven't yet.

The tires are terrible in that they cause the car to vibrate, which has pretty much ruined this car for me. Glad to hear they'll be replaced but it's taken too long and really they should have put a better tire on to begin with.

The ride has deteriorated as the miles pile on. It's still silky smooth on a nice highway (once the tires have evened out) but it wallows on bumpy roads and bumps at speed are pretty loud.

The idle is too rough, especially w/ the a/c on. I had the dealer look into it and was told it was normal.

Throttle response is terrible, a real shame considering how well the engine and transmission are matched.

Water in the tail lights. Really Hyundai? Glad there is finally a recall on this but nothing says poor build quality while ruining a cars look like water in the tail lights. This happened to my car very early on and the dealer did replace them, only to have water back in them again.

The infotainment has some annoying qualities. Sometimes the rear view camera will just black out for several seconds after I've already started backing out. Why does the home button get blocked by every message on the screen? Why is there no dedicated climate control display to show temps? It's also pretty laggy and takes too long to boot up.

Why does everything except the sunroof still work after the car is shut off? Really? If they can keep the stereo on and the windows functioning, why do I have to have the car running or in the 'on' mode to close the sunroof? No excuse for it.

The paint has not held up well at all, and has slight orange peel to boot. It scratches and chips far too easily.

There is also a lot to love about the car, but this will be my last Hyundai. After staying with them through 4 new car purchases I'll be moving on soon. They just don't have the quality yet to play in the luxury leagues. Their tire and tail light campaigns tell me that they really want to make a good car, but there is some work to be done.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

new dislike how hard you have to close to trunk on non-power models
they need to include power close feature on signature pkg and while were at it
give me back my heated steering wheel once u have it in another car its hard to lose

Get rid of that car !
Go out and get yourself a descent car.

It's phenomenal how much Hyundai improved the second generation Genesis over the first. That's not to say the first generation is, in any way, bad! It's just the second adds so much quality. And is now pretty much considered - across the board - as a "true" luxury car. It's not just entry-level luxury anymore. It has everything - and all the quality - you could ask for. The ONLY thing missing - is a brand! But that would surely add another $5000 onto the price tag. So is the brand needed? Well, that's up for another discussion - many which are already being had here at the Genesis Owners Group.

But, seriously. Congratulations, Hyundai. The Genesis is top notch...

I do drive in light to moderate fog, but never heavy enough that I couldn't see within a couple of feet in front of my car, which is what front fog lights are good for. However, I have been in dense enough fog or other severe weather that I had trouble seeing the car in front while maintaining a safe following distance (at least four seconds in inclement weather). For this reason, I consider rear fog lights slightly more useful than front fog lights, but nowhere near the top of my list of desired options.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Perhaps he likes to use it to discourage nighttime tailgating  had it in an audi previously and it served this purpose

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Here in Germany we can only buy the 3.8 AWD Genesis, but that one is fully equipped. Sales number are lower than 5 a month, so my car is very very exclusive. :D

The fog tail lights are integrated in the rear lights, so that two segments on each side shine brighter.

Greetings from Germany

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

The top of the dashboard is hard plastic, rather than the soft touch material on the first generation.

That's not true..... The top of the dash board is soft...???

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

Petty but I don't like the daytime running lights are the turn signals on the 15 5.0. I would like to see the LED accent lights as DRL.

you and about oh, 100% of everyone else who owns one. :D

Still hoping Hyundai releases a software patch for this, it's just bizarre.

Re: 2015 Genesis "Dislikes"

I'd like the drive mode to stay from the last option selected rather than returning to the default "Normal each time you shut off the engine.
I'd like the voice navigation to work better so that it is capable of entering addresses correctly.

How about being able to select the default mode?

By the way if you set the parking lights on for the daytime LED effect, the car automatically shuts them off for you as you exit.
