If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently bought a 15 Genesis that has HID headlights. They seem really dim compared to other cars I've had with HID. Also, they are supposed to turn with cornering and be self leveling. I haven't seen any of this. Could it be that they installed the wrong headlamps?

Anyone else have these concerns, or have the HIDs and can comment?

Thanks.

Others have complained about the light output and some have found they needed to be adjusted up about 2 inches which made all the difference as they were off from the factory and not adjusted by the dealer. As for self levelling, yes they are however they do not turn with cornering as this is not an option at any level. It did say this was included on the Canadian literature and their site but this was a typo and was supposed to have been corrected.

I find front lighting comparable to most budget cars with HID. But it is probably worse than Toyota Corolla's LED. Honda Accords' LED. And all other cars that have HID with fog lights, not to mention quite a few with dynamic lights.

People keep saying Genesis is a value buster. It may have been with gen 1, but not so much with V6 AWD Ultimate that goes for 53k, IMO. Cost cutting is fairly noticeable in some areas but I still love the car.

I feel my HID lights are better than they were with the lights on my 2009 & 2012. I have no issues at all, even the auto dim feature works very well.:)

I feel the same way. The light output on the gen 1 was not very good at all not to mention the halogen high beams were adequate at best. If you did not know, the gen 1 did not have biXenon therefor relied on every day halogen bulbs for the high beams.

I had the same problem, a slight adjustment up will make a great difference.

You see the difference when you also drove Limited Azera.

Thanks everyone for the input. I will adjust the height of the beam to see if it works. I do have documentation the salesman gave me that says the headlights pivot while turning, but obviously that's incorrect. When I start up my Lexus you can see the bulbs level and warm up and that doesn't happen with the Gen. I traded in an Acura MDX with LED headlights which were AMAZING so maybe I'm being too critical.

LED headlights are overdue for this car - the competition is ahead and I am surprised they did not make the cut for the 2015 model. Along with LED DRL's, it seems logical for a 2016 change, especially as the competition makes LED's not a luxury item anymore.

You are getting caught up in the new fad. LED lights do not have the great output that HID does. Going to LED is going backwards. They are cool but not quite there yet. See this. http://www.caradvice.com.au/278125/headlights-explained-halogen-v-hid-v-led-v-laser/

The debate may rage on, but as MB and others make them standard, it will be a tougher sell on how they are better for Hyundai. Not sure its simply a fad - those that have them swear by them and the move to them may be inevitable.

+1 - in addition, I personally don't like the look of full LED headlights when they are not on!!! I'll stick with LED's for fogs or DRL's - not headlights (at least not the way they implement them at present).

It's a placebo effet and the coolness of having something no one else has. Fact of the matter is they do not shine as well as HID. They will most likely become the light of the future but they still need some tweaking before they are ready. Give it another few years and they may be ready for prime time. I want those darn lasers they are putting on the BMW 8 series, now that is one cool light that really performs.

FWIW, I had a 2013 Accord with LEDs and they seemed to do a really good job.

Anybody know what the color temperature is for the stock low beam HID's (4300k)? They are H11 bulbs as well correct?

Stock temp is almost always 4300k. The bulb will not be H11. They will either be D1S or D2S. I hope they have changed to D2S from the first generations D1S bulbs....

Thanks! Has anyone changed their stock HID bulbs to 6000k or 8000k for the 2015 Genesis? Will it require me removing the front bumper?

I'd recommend high quality (ex. OSRAM/Philips/Others) 5000K (crystal white...hard to find) or 6000K (slight blue hint) based on my years of messing with kits on other cars. Going with the cheap ones you will get a lot of blue tint at 6000K. 8000K is very blue regardless of quality.

As far as the Genesis and replacement of the bulbs, I have not done it but looked into it and it does not appear the bumper needs to be removed but you will likely need to remove some parts near the light housings to get to the bulbs.

Looked in the manual to confirm which bulb they are in the 2015, and they are D1S.
