2016 Genesis News?

I have both the 2015 and 2016 brochures and the actual content is VERY similar with the exception of the options page that has already been posted. Mostly new pictures, but I can't find a single design change in the car inside or out. I do like the modifications made to the headlight wiring and including fogs on the 3.8 for sure. How many people will miss having the beige paint option? lol

The one thing I don't get is why some people just HAVE to have way more than 400 HP. Do the cops not write tickets where you live? The clamor for 500 or 600 or more HP to me is a complete waste of money, unless you rent track time.

Why do you have 5 TVs in your house? Or a smart phone, tablet, laptop and a desktop? Because we like nice things and some of us like nice things that are fast!! :D

One of the things that defines luxury is the ability to have what you don't need. Power is amongst one of those things...

That extra power you speak of DrNotes saved our lives yesterday on our way back from a weekend trip when a semi we were half way passed with a car right behind us started to swerve into our lane. That instant power from 75 to 90 mph came in really handy. You might think of it as a waste, I think of it as another safety tool when needed.

Glad to hear you avoided an accident, were you driving a Genesis? I was referring to people demanding more power than the Tau V8 provides. Anyone can spend their money anyway they want, so long as it does not hurt others, so if you think it is worth it, go ahead and get 1000 HP if you feel like it. I do not see the point and do not want to spend extra money for something I can't even use that eats even more gas as well. My last ticket I was going 15 over for literally 200 yards to catch up to traffic after I had turned onto the county highway, they have a real industrious nature about writing damn tickets in WI. In 35+ years of driving here I have never once REQUIRED more than 300 HP to drive safely and have never had an accident that was my fault or caused a single injury in my car. But I have gotten a speeding ticket every time but once when I have been pulled over by radar, out of about 12 stops, and never for more than 19 over. So what exactly can I do with 500 or 600+ HP besides dent my bank account? I personally prefer to spend that money on things I can actually utilize and enjoy. It is understandable to get a monster if you rent track time, but under no other circumstances does it make sense to me, sorry. Otherwise it is just (not) cheap thrills.

The answer might be a simple one, because for some of us the 'need for speed' is in our blood and more power make us feel alive, which is measured by the relative adrenaline rush increase induced by said power.
This coming from a man that gave up a modded Tras Am for a cushy V8 Genesis because of a screaming back due to advanced.... wisdom...

Today, if only I can get in a Tesla P85D, I would use the 'ludicrous' button everyday and twice on Sunday just to be able get to 60 in 2.8 seconds!
If I was 20 years younger a Nissan GT-R will do just fine.
Alas, life has a tendency to throw wonderful curve balls that make some of us reconsider our priorities :)

Wow that's a lot of pullovers. I think my lifetime total is 8, 3 of them due to lidar.

glad you aren't a politician!! Because you think and sound just like Bernie Sanders "You don’t necessarily need a choice of 23 underarm spray deodorants or of 18 different pairs of sneakers" You my friend are a fun sucker!!!

Salespeople at car dealerships want to make money. They are not necessarily car enthusiasts, and most of them at a Hyundai dealership can't afford a Genesis. Very few Hyundai salespeople have enough money in the bank to go even a few months without a paycheck, except the sales manager or GM.

When I say salespeople want to "make money" I mean right now, today, or this week at the latest. The more changes there are to the next model year, means that some customers will wait, and that knowledge about what is coming is the enemy of the salesperson. So even if they knew, they are not going to tell you.

Wow! Sounds like someone here is very full of themselves. In actuality, most salesmen and saleswomen I know make more money than sales managers, but certainly not the GM. At our dealership, three of us drive a 2015 Genesis, including myself (Black/Black AWD Tech). Others drive very nice vehicles, and yes, there are a select few that struggle month to month, but that's the case with every other profession out there as well. A great salesman makes 120K+, a very good salesman makes 90K+, and average to good salesmen make 70K+. Plus it helps when our spouses make great money, but you know as well as I do that successful women usually are attracted to successful men.

You are spot about selling the here and now though. I will give you that.

As far as our 2016 allocation, we currently have 6 sitting in port and one bobbing along at sea. ETA is 30 days or less on the 6.

Funny you should mention that, in the last fifteen and half years I have been here, I had three tickets, two of them in the Mrs. 235hp Sonata for speeding which I rarely drove and one in my 250hp Isuzu Axiom (improper lane change)!

Conclusion, In my case (using some fuzzy logic);

High powered cars = more engaged / controlled / Alert and therefore safer driving habits. :D

I am not full of myself. You and your dealership may be the exception, especially for Hyundai. My guess is that you have not talked to many different Hyundai dealerships, as most of the members of this forum have.

When I purchased my Genesis, the finance guy (after trying some sleazy tactics to get me to pay $3K for the extended warranty) was "fit to be tied" when I told him I was paying cash for the car. He kept asking me a bunch of questions as to how I could possibly do that.

But in any case, even the very successful salespeople may not be car enthusiasts, and may not know or care about all the details and features of the cars. That was the main point. If it helps them sell cars, they will know, otherwise not as likely.

I don't think that's where he was heading with this at all. In fact - I think it is pretty clear that he is trying to demonstrate the difference between a need and a want.

And especially in this day and age - that methodology works, and it works quite well.

Case in point - Aldi Foods. Used to be years ago the quality of the products they sold was questionable. Not the case anymore. Over 5 years ago they fixed the quality concerns across their entire product line - but they were still able to keep prices low for one reason:

They provide needs. Not wants.

When you go there - if you want peanut butter you have 2 choices: Crunchy or Creamy. Both are by the same, house brand. You do not have 5 brands and 2 types of each brand. You have peanut butter. Period.

People say that competition between brands drives down prices. This is not true at all - at least in a "needs" market. Wants? Yes... needs - no. There is not one brand out there that sells you things to save you money. They sell you things so they can make money. Narrow the scope like Aldi does to a single brand, draw people away from the "wants" market - and boom... you can make money while saving money for the customer. Neat little formula they figured out there.

If you NEED reliable transportation - you go buy a Civic and you keep it for 10 or 15 years. If you WANT transportation - you buy a Genesis, a 5 series, an E350 or an A6. You might lease it for 3, you might buy it for 5... and then you get something else you WANT.

Major difference.

There is a lot more to competition than efficient prices. There is also innovation, which may improve the quality of a product, or may improve the way a product is made so it can be manufactured at a lower cost than before (not just sold at a lower cost).

If you think all peanut butter is the same (other than being creamy or crunchy), either now or in the past, perhaps you should read Creamy and Crunchy: An Informal History of Peanut Butter, the All-American Food, Jon Krampner, Columbia University Press (2014), 320 pages.

So, any news on the 2016 Hyundai Genesis in this thread? ;-)
A Hyundai salesman posted that the first wave of 2016's are expected to arrive at his dealership in about 30 days. They have already arrived at port of entry in the US.

If you think all peanut butter is the same (other than being creamy or crunchy), either now or in the past,

Of course innovation comes at a cost - that is a given. Of course over time that cost is passed on to the consumer.

Now - I never said all peanut butter is the same... I just said it was peanut butter. If you have a NEED to fill regarding peanut butter - any single brand can fulfill that need. If you WANT peanut butter that has a certain taste, texture, smell, altered flavoring, etc.... then of course there are options (innovations? :) ) and you will pay for them. But again - this goes back to wants vs needs.

Extrapolate accordingly into the car market.

Do you NEED reliable transportation that will last 10+ years, or do you want transportation that also toasts your buns and streams your music from the net while you read the paper since it also has lane keeping, distance keeping and emergency braking? :)

It blows my mind that full time sales people wouldn't know their product inside and out. My only guess would be that they sell other new product so they have split interest, thus diluting their Hyundai knowledge. Our biggest competition in this market has several other manufacturers at their disposal and it often times works to their advantage when it comes time to switch the customer. I have read some of these posts pertaining to interactions with other dealerships and I come away shaking my head.

As far as car enthusiasts, I would say that a good 75% of the successful salesman I know are. The other 25% are just great salesmen. It's all about creating excitement, and loving the cars yourself is the easiest way to have that come across.

I apologize for jumping to conclusions.

Any chance any of those you have been allocated are V6 (RWD or AWD) cars with the ivory interior?

Curt

Curt,

I could have answered the Ivory question yesterday, but today they are in processing so we can't explore the invoice until that's done. I can tell you that all 6 are 6 cylinders with 4 of them being RWD.

What kind of tires do they have? And has that vibration issue been fixed? :p
