  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I'm nearing the completion of a four-year assignment in Singapore and will be returning to the US in April. Looking forward to turning in my dull, under-powered BMW rental and buying what will be my third Genesis.

I haven't been following the brand much (no Hyundai's here to speak of except for diesel Sonata taxis; no Genesis' whatsoever), so I'll have to block out time to learn about what I believe was a recent, major redesign and determine if I'll go new or pick up a gently-used pre-'15. Hoping to reconnect with some of the original posters on this site.

I've been here since about Oct. 2010. My 2011 4.6 purchased Sept. 2010 now has 172,000 miles on it.

Been here since March 2010, on my third Genesis as well.

There's a significant difference between the first generation (2009-2014) and the second generation (2015+). Whether that difference is good or bad, is partly subjective depending on the tastes of the beholder, and partly a straightforward comparison of performance, weight, handling, features and price. There has been much debate in here about this. (I believe that was keeping the summary neutral enough, G2 guys!).

I have been here since Jan 2009. My 2009 Genesis only has 53,500 miles on it and seems to run better than when it was new. The suspension is definitely better than new, as I upgraded it to 2010 specs (so still relatively firm).

Look, it's time this is said because this topic is becoming like a gnat. First of all, this is the G2 sub-forum; we don't need to be neutral. When I go to a home football game, I wear the team colors; I do not pretend to be sad when my team does well. Yes, I believe being objective is conducive to good discussion, but objectivity and neutrality are different things. We prefer the second generation by virtue of the fact that we voted with our checkbooks; that's not neutral, that's honest. I had more than 100K miles on the first generation Genesis to know all about it's strengths and weaknesses.

Secondly, missing from your list of "neutral" comparison items are structural rigidity, crashworthiness, handling, steering feel, safety, ride-quality, electronic features, braking feel and braking reliability (!), as well as convenience. Hyundai didn't spend $500 Million developing a new car and platform for it not to have any advantages over the car it replaces (which is not the same as saying there are no trade-offs; in fact I have posted my list of differences here).

Now looks are a subjective thing; I prefer the rear-end of the 1st Gen over the 2nd Gen rear-end, but for all other angles I prefer the 2nd gen. But that's something that's subjective, and while I'm spending my money, I'm allowed to be subjective on which car I prefer. I still visit the G1 forum and keep up with what's new, and there have definitely been some exciting developments, particularly on the modification front. But I am not on that forum trying to convince others of why I'm somehow "Internet Smarter" by buying my G2.

Boom! Shots fired

Musher! I'm still here! All I can say is - GO TEST DRIVE A NEW GENESIS SEDAN! I think you'll be very impressed...

I'm sure you will enjoy returning to the Genesis world. 49,000 miles on my 4.6 and runs quieter and better than when it was new. Love this car. I'm going to keep this one for many years.

Yup, I see I walked right into what has become a divisive topic. Unintentionally, I assure you. I wasn't even aware that the forum has bifurcated into G1 and G2 sections. But rather than ask questions that dredge up old enmities, I'll just wade through the archive material to read about the pros and cons of the new design, and better yet, drive one when I get back. Thanks for the feedback.

well said. I owned both as well and my feelings on the topic certainly are well documented. I prefer the G2 in almost every aspect.

on a side note welcome back! obviously there have been a number of changes over the last few years but you cant go wrong with purchasing either generation.

Ive been here since 6-6-2009 and I'm on my 3rd Genesis. 1st one was a Silver 2009 3.8, traded it in for a 2012 Black on Black 5.0 R-Spec. Then I traded that one in on a 2015 Black on Black 5.0 Genesis. Looking to trade that one in on a Genesis G90 5.0. Hope to see them soon so I can make up my mind. Guess Ive gone koo koo over Genesis !!! :)

Hey there Sal! It's been a while. Glad to see you're still facilitating the connection between owners of this remarkable vehicle. I will surely be test driving a new Genesis when I move back to the US. Just gotta relearn how to sit on the left side and drive on the right!

Thanks, Huddleston. My only regret is that I'm moving back before the presidential elections are over! The ability to ignore the media frenzy is the best (only?) good reason to not live there. But it's time to go home.

Hi Mark. I remember you well and glad to see you're still active. I recall your passion about improving the suspension of the original design and I'm glad you're content with the upgrades you made.

Welcome back Musher, it has been a long while...
I still have my 2009 with 60k miles and still going strong

As far as G1 vs G2 discussion goes, it really depends what are after?

The G2 is wonderful in every respect, both from an engineering and refinement prospectives, but does command that extra $$$, even on the 2015 which are still being sold today IMO.

As far as looks / stance concerned, that is a very touchy subject around here, so I will just leave that one alone by saying, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

Today, if I have to make that decision again, I would still go with a 2013-2014 R-Spec with few basic mods (rigid collar being on top of the list followed very closely by the remote ESC disable) from both performance and value proposition (the R-Spec is noticeably faster than the G2 5.0)

Thanks Musher.

Been around since 09. My Gene just got totaled. Never gave me a problem and she just turned 70,000 miles.
Loved my Gene.
Just could not believe the cost to repair, especially going 25 and no air bag deployment.
Been looking at the 2016.
Would love to get the 5.0 w/awd.

Good luck... Happy Holidays to all........

unfortunately the 5.0 with AWD is not available in the US.

I would have loved to have that as well but I am very pleased with the 5.0!
