If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. So how is the 8 speed Hyundai transmission holding up?

Looks like the 8-speed in house Hyundai built transmission in our cars is holding up pretty well so far. Way before I got my 2015 Genesis I researched common issues and recall seeing a number of 2012 transmission failures on the Gen 1 board, which was the first year of the in-house transmission. Most/all looked to be taken care of under warranty but still scary to see failures on such a key and expensive item.

Since then it looks like problems with this transmission are relatively rare, which is a credit to Hyundai to develop a new and complex 8 speed with apparently good reliability. I've found the transmission to be quite good and am pleased with the performance and shifting so far at 7k miles.

Any issues or comments so far?

All mine have been without issue. The latest tweaks to the Gen2 have made this as silky smooth as they come and seem to be bullet proof.

The new generations transmission is hoked up very well and

they are a good designers and engineers because now Hyundai is multi nationality company and that what making them better always

No problems with either my 2012 or my 2015. If anything, my 2010 non-Hyundai 6 speed had some disturbing signs of occasional rough shifts and slippage that was cause for concern. I also agree that the 2015 seems smoother than the 2012.

no issues with my 2013 or my 2015. great gearbox IMO.

Nice box and covered by the 10 year warranty. Nothing to worry about.

Silky smooth. Best transmission I ever came across to.

The transmission works very well, the software has some issues.
When downshifting with the throttle the transmission sometimes hunts for the proper gear and leaves you in limbo until it decides what gear it wants to be in.
Once it decides it shifts smoothly and reliably.

So far at almost 26k no issues at all with transmission or car outside the few recalls.

I thought my 2011 six speed was pretty good but this one is so smooth it really compliments the engine well. Hyundai has some serious engineering here. Mine has never exhibited the kick down delay frequently spoken of and is very responsive. Actually after a little more than one year other then the mentioned recalls there hasn’t been a single hiccup with the car. Quite a testament for a new model run year.

no real complaints here except for an occasional slow response to manual inputs. sport mode does help that situation. it is without a doubt the smoothest tranny i've ever driven! :D

I've had my car for about six month and the transmission has worked flawlessly. It's so smooth that I simply don't feel it shift. The lease on my 2011 Acura TL V6 was up and I test drove a new Acura TLX V6 with a 9 speed ZF transmission. The transmission's shifting was very noticeable. In fact the transmission's performance was so bad, it was one, but not the only reason I choose not to negotiated a price. I decided to test drive some other brands of vehicles. One of the first things I noticed about the Genesis during the test drive was how well that transmission functioned. In fact I was so pleased with the Genesis, that after the test drive, I leased it!

^ That 9 spd ZF has been very problematic for Acura, as well as for Jeep/Chrysler.

Part of the reason why Acura's reliability rating has slipped.

Acura unfortunately has a somewhat troubled transmission history. For a few years in the early 2000s, their 5-speed transmission was prone to failure. It was known to slip from 5th gear into 2nd at 70mph. 2004 was the year they seemed to finally get this right (at least, I didn't have any major problems with my transmission until the very end, at 160K miles).

Looks like the recall affected 50% of the 2015 TLX models. I wonder if ZF has fixed the problem by now?

I guess Acura is not too happy this time, since it went outside (to ZF) get the 9-speed transmission, rather than making it themselves.

From what I can see, the ZF 9-speed is now used with all Acura current SuperHandling AWD models of the TLX, MDX, and RDX, so maybe ZF has fixed the problem.

I had a 2002 TL TypeS. 3 Transmissions in less than 2 years so I traded it in. Although they were highly rated mine was a piece of crap. Had to have the entire car repainted (defective paint) Throttle body needed replacing before 1 year. The drivers side door lock failed and like I said, three transmissions. I did quite a bit of research into this back then and although Honda is a very good reputation, their transmissions are in the Lada league.

I like it. 1600 miles so far
My Sonata was a 3.3L lambda engine and the 5 speed auto was smooth and silent for all 9 years.
