If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Android Auto and Apple Car Play

IMHO that cars fit & finish is a cover up of a mishap that was poorly repaired. I seriously cannot see such a flagrant defect from a factory delivered car.

Believe it - this is what it looked like when it showed up at the dealer off the truck.

Obviously, the white film would "hide" the panel alignment issue. I did a walkaround and saw no dents/dings, etc.,. When I was allowed pick it up 8 weeks later (no more miles on odometer- I checked), it was dark and I did not notice the hood seam. I honestly never really looked for that defect - was more checking for dings, scratches, etc.,. Also , I had stopped by a few times in that 8 weeks to check the odometer to make sure they were not test driving it (did not trust dealer) and the car never moved from where it was stored.

Nikgen, was your car built in Ulsan or Asan?

It happens. When I was choosing between vehicles before I got the Genesis, one of my other vehicles I was looking at was a Dodge Durango R/T. (odd comparison I know) One of the most common things people ran into with the new Durangos was misaligned panels/hoods/etc...just like those pictures posted. You may say...a Durango isn't a "premium or luxury" car competing with BMW, Mercedes, etc... I call bs, the Durango R/T I was looking at cost more than any of the new Genesis.

I don't know - the tag just says "Manufactured in Korea" - it does not list the assembly plant:

Do you still have your window sticker? Mine says it on there where it lists the parts content.

Nikgen -

IIRC, the final assembly point is listed on the window sticker. I think mine was Ulsan.

On a side note, my '13 Azera was assembled in Ulsan, and the fit and finish was excellent. In addition, it was the best car I've ever owned in terms of being trouble free. The only actual car related issue was a slight rattle in the Pano roof that showed up after a year or so. It was easily fixed with a felt shim that I never could actually locate or see.

My current Genesis has had a few mostly minor issues. Most are solved. I had my radio replaced, and I now have the backup camera double line issue that still needs a solve. I also had tires swapped, but I still have a bit of vibration at high road speeds. I suspect it may be tire related, or possibly wheels. If those 2 things are solved, I'll be very satisfied with the G2.

Again, while I did have some issues, this car has less initial issues than the 2 Infinitis I owned... and I was generally very pleased with those 2 cars.

for what it is worth....SEOUL (Reuters) -- Hyundai Motor Co. said today that it will partner with Cisco Systems to develop connected-car technology, part of the automaker's push to develop "high-performing computers on wheels."

Auto and tech firms are increasingly forming alliances to expand services that hook cars up to Internet, particularly as the race to develop self-driving cars heats up.

Hyundai said Vice Chairman Chung Eui-sun met Cisco CEO Chuck Robbins in Seoul and agreed to co-develop in-vehicle network technology for high-speed transfer of large amounts of data.

"The cooperation is part of Hyundai Motor's wider strategy to establish an industry-leading connected car platform through collaboration with leading technology partners," it said in a statement.

Other alliances include Toyota Motor Corp.'s expansion this month of a 5-year-old partnership with Microsoft Corp. to develop new Internet-connected vehicle services for owners and dealers.

Checked the window sticker - final assembly was at Asan.

Nikgen, that's unfortunate. I wonder if that's intrinsic to shifting some (all?) production to Asan from Ulsan. On my Genesis, the panels fit wonderfully. In fact I'm a bit obsessive about that and it's one of the first things I checked on my Genesis. It's also one of the first things I check out on competing vehicles (for the record, BMW tends to have great panel gap discipline, Mercedes, depends on the model and where it's built, but unscientifically it seems to me as though I'm more likely to find a variation on a Mercedes than I am on BMW or Audi. With Lexus you can be sure the gap will be even all around unless it's been repaired).

It sounds like some of the assembly tolerances need to be tightened up a bit. What's odd is that for the Sonata anyway (made at the same plant), that entire portion of the plant is automated. From the sheet-metal delivery to the body-panel stamping and the associated welding, you're hard-pressed to actually find a person at the Asan plant until you get to interior assembly. It seriously looks like something from a Terminator movie.

While I agree that it is disappointing - I also have to ask why everyone is getting so butthurt about this.

It was NOT a feature listed, available, promised or indicated when you bought the car. We all knew this going in and we bought it anyhow. New features are introduced for new models on later years all the time... has that ever stopped you from buying a car in the past? Have you ever expected another manufacturer to retroactively include it in older cars? Should I be expecting Honda to put BT and a rear cam in my wife's 2012 Civic just because it was standard equipment on the 2013?

Of course not.... so why is this a situation that results in bitterness at this point? If anything - it should entice people to get the newer model - especially if they otherwise love their existing cars already. Once you buy a car - that's what you get. You don't get it and "more" at a later date. This has never been a part of car ownership over the entire history of automobiles. I look forward to it on my 2019 G90.

Well said. Apart from some "dislikes", looking at this car every morning puts smile on my face.

Jesus, the people in here are so damn demanding. Yes I know we all spent good money for our vehicles, yes, some more than others to get a nicer package. At that rate, as some one who works in the tech industry I understand that there may be things in the way preventing hyundai from developing an apple car play and android auto update for those premium systems. Why would they choose NOT to do that? considering that they would need to do it anyways if they planned on keeping the systems as is for the G80 / G90.

They did not necessarily build these cars at the time premised on the fact that some day they would be able to integrate it with apple car play and android auto. Honestly the premium nav system might just not be capable due to hardware or software reasons, or it may just be too expensive for them to allocate resources to make it work. It sucks yes, but come on... saying you will ditch your Genesis for another vehicle because of this is childish. There are more moving parts than you can imagine, it will be okay...

I would not ditch the car over this (but will if the roof rattles are not fixed, though). However, HMA never should have indicated that it was going to come as an update - which they they did to several people who contacted them (and still are saying on the Android Auto Site - at least for the 2016 Genesis). No one would expect it if it was not teased to be coming, so they should have just said "no comment" when asked about it - but they didn't... so a little backlash is to be expected.

My thoughts exactly, well said!

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!

"Yeah, we'll update your car for free with 4G and Android, and it should be released next month. No, we don't put that sort of thing in writing but trust me."

Remember, their job is to sell cars. So unless you know without a doubt that a service or feature is or will be available, you can't listen to them. As far as you should be concerned when buying a car, what you see is what you get. No promises (in fact I had to sign something saying they weren't promising me anything).

What I would like to see is their Blue Link subscription service include Pandora or iHeart radio or something, rather than the bluetooth link to my phone which charges my data plan. Currently, XM is about $225/year for an all access subscription. If Blue Link could stream those other services, I could get in for less. But I'll take what I can get ;)

I did not buy the car based on a future promise of Carplay or AA as that was not even talked about at purchase time. That does not change the fact that HMA (not the dealers who we all expect to lie to us to sell cars) later said it would be coming as an upgrade - they deserve some crap for not following through or even giving any updates on why they might not be able to do it. That's all - just calling them out for poorly handling the infotainment system - both for Carplay/AA and the downloadable apps they touted as a feature!

Sounds like you need Spotify Premium ($10/month). Make any song(s) or album(s) you want available offline then when you connect it via bluetooth to your car it doesn't stream and use up any data. I love it.

Interesting. I'll look into that.
