Hail Storm

Big hail storm came thru No. VA around 6 pm and punched holes thru my sun roof like it was tissue paper.

Query? How do they fix these things? And it was something I never wanted in the first place.

Sheet metal banged up pretty bad too - Guess I'll be looking for a 2016 model if I can find one in one piece - it was apparently a widespread storm.

Yikes. Hit east of you for me - luckily car was in the garage. Only lasted for a few minutes, but was crazy.

That's what I'm afraid of - for both of my cars.

Usually - when an Ins. co "totals" a car - it's bad news for the insured. It's a way out for them to go cheap on claims.

But, I do plan to replace the car asap - if I can find one in the area that wasn't likewise hail damaged - this storm was a bear!

I'll probably get a 2016 - I think they're about the same as my 2015 (minus the hail storm trashing). I have had zero probs with the car & just finished the oil/filter changeout.

Nope - the V8 was one of my favorite things about the car - zoom!

If I could clone my present genny - that's what I'd do. (Maybe red, though)

Thanks - tomorrow I'm gonna go car shopping. Still like the one I bought - Query? Isn't the 2016 the same car? What are differences?

I just learned all of the DIY stuff on the 2015 car w/V8, bought specialty tools, etc.

What's an Equus - should I buy an Equus?

Not kidding - my current genny is seriously trashed, along with my '06 Sonata. And no more V6's available there either. Problems, problems.

We had a big hail storm in Austin a few years back, damaged thousands of cars. My friends wife's car was shipped to San Antonio for sheet metal repair because the Austin body-shops were backed up for months. You can still find cars with hail damage every now and then, usually older cars where the owners pocketed the insurance money and left the dings. One car looked like a rolling golf ball with all the dimples ...

I don't recall anyone telling me their car got totaled, but I do remember a lot of people telling me about broken glass, sunroofs, rear windows ... It is fixable, but make sure to move quickly since there are so many damaged cars - the body shops will be busy for a while.

I'm gonna fix up both cars - or whatever is necessary - and replace both cars. This storm was some kind of record breaker though.

That's why Nikgen asked if you are getting a V6. It has been mentioned frequently on this forum that there are apparently no more V8's being imported by HMA for MY 2016.

The intended "joke" was the fact that there is no 2016 V8! Sucks your car got trashed, btw!

I had paintless dent repair done on a prior vehicle for hail damage and I was very happy with the results. It partially depends on the severity of the damage.

The sunroof should be replaceable: either glass only or the whole thing. People have done this for rattles, I am sure it can be done for broken glass too. But, i bet the glass can be replace separately.

Last hail storm we had maybe 20 yrs ago, all sheet metal (roof,hood, trunk) had to be replaced on my one car at the time - and fortunately no sun roof to deal with.

The 2016 Genesis has white LED daytime running lamps. I believe there's also a difference in the Hyundai extended warranty, should you decide to get it.

I wouldn't consider an Equus at this point; the older platform will definitely be noticed after driving your Genesis around. I would however consider the G90.

Thanks for the G90 tip - never even thought of it - on the 'net anyway, they are touting a 2017 with what looks like my beloved V8 - gotta check prices & avail.

The G80 and G90 are rumored to available early fall (I know, which doesn't exactly help you now).

The sunroof will be replaced as an entire unit. That assembly is $3000. Labor is $750 or better.

The G90 is the replacement for the Equus - it is also larger and much more refined inside and is on-par with an S class, A8 or 7 series.
