  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

OK, I'm not trying to start a new discussion on a problem that's been more than adequately discussed. However, I have a new 2015 Genesis with 2k miles and I'm dreading knowing this is going to rear its head sooner or later.

I thought asking this question in the Sunroof Rattles thread would be heavily skewed, since those without the issue probably are no longer actively reading the thread.

I think a poll might give a better picture of the severity of the problem so those without the rattles could at least be included and give an idea whether almost everybody (or less than we think) will sooner or later have the sunroof rattle defect.

Perhaps just listing your year and mileage at about the time the rattles commenced. And leave any in depth discussion under the Sunroof rattles thread.

No issues with mine regarding rattles. See below for date built. I do have the seal separation but still waiting for a TSB from Hyundai before I pull the trigger to get it fixed. No leaks so no issues except cosmetic.

Is the seal separation a precursor to the rattles?

I would say no - my 2015 had the seal separation and rattled. My 2016 does not have the seal separation but does have rattles - the frustrating thing is that it varies from day-to-day or even over the course of a drive on it if happens and how bad it is! Last week, it had a quite pronounced rattle (in closed position - does it when open too) until I was halfway to the dealer and then (of course) it stopped!

Not a Genesis owner yet but my wife's 2012 Hyundai Sonata had a TSB for Sunroof Noise: TSB 13-BD-02 and it resolved the noise in her car. They added acoustic felt and used some kind of teflon based lubricant on the rails. The felt basically supported the glass and stopped it from moving. It was a really good fix imo.

Others here have tried this and failed. Not the same issue.

I think this needs to be two polls. Or allow multiple selections. As I did have the sunroof rattle and it currently is resolved.

I've reading the other thread and can't tell if i have this rattle that everyone is talking about... I do hear like a crunch noise when the car goes slowly over bumps or driveway like its flexing... Other than that, regular city/highway no problems with sunroof rattles

I had rattling but the dealer replaced and adjusted a new panaromic roof and so far I have not had the rattle again.

I bought the car used with ~35k miles. I did not notice the rattle right away but perhaps I was not sure what to listen for because I soon heard it after.

I have had this issue as well. The dealership has ordered me a new roof through Hyundai but its on back order. Once it gets here then I'll let y'all know.

Mine has always creaked when going over large bumps. This spring I noticed it occasionally start rattling a lot more (constant rattling over even minor bumps). So far I've been able to get it to stop by cracking open and then shutting the sunroof. Once I do this, it can go for weeks or months before it starts rattling again. I've had my car for about 2.5 years and 45,000 mi.

After having had my 2015 replaced, the 2016 has been back at the dealer for the last 5 weeks for the sunroof rattle issue - the dealer actually has it at a specialty sunroof place right now.

I'm not confident they really have a fix for this problem - I think it is a major design flaw. It's a real shame as, otherwise, it is a great car.

Genesis Motors will not succeed in the luxury segment with these type of issues...

how bad are the rattles?
i always have music on via bluetooth. do you hear the rattles through music or only without the music?
i dont own a genesis but i want one with a moonroof

sorry, maybe a stupid question, are we talking about "rattle" in the closed position or open? mine rattles for sure when open, but not closed at all.

My have this leather rubbing type squeak, and a springy sounding rattle over rough pavement is this what it is?

Yes - unless you play your music quite loud, you can hear it as it is right above/behind your head.

I don't rally have the "squeak" - it is the springy rattle. It does not need to be super rough pavement either - with the right surface "undulations" on somewhat smoother roads, the rattle can be induced - seems like a harmonic that can be hit with the right frequency of road input (but really rough roads will always do it to an extent).

BTW - Monday will mark the car being at the dealer/out of service for 6 weeks - well within the Lemon Law prerequisites for NJ. It's looking like that may be my next course of action...

Well alrighty then sounds like I have a rattling roof along with the glass seal peeling as well.

Curious - is your car a 2017 G80 or a 2015/2016 Genesis?

2015 with build date of jan/2015. CPO car with 9k miles when I got it a few weeks ago. Over all its great, but the forums are exposing some interesting issues with it. The panoroof rattle I'm sure its not just related to our cars, I'm sure bmw and benz or anything with a pano roof would have some sort of an issue.
