If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

2010 almost certainly will have suspension changes

I have no doubt he's received more than four or five complaints about the bouncy ride. But, at least admitting the have gotten some complaints is substantial progress.

I've opened the case file with Hyundai. Not sure where it'll go from here.

I've expressed my concern about the bouncy ride, and they've noted it down.

I've also asked if they received any complaints about the ride quality, the person said that he alone received 4 or 5 complaints about the ride, and they have a lot of dealer feedback about it. So customers are complaining, if not to them, then to their dealers. He also said that Hyundai is monitoring all the message boards on the internet, and they are aware of the situation. As far as doing anything about it, there was no indication of that.

So, not sure how that will pan out, or if it'll make any difference at all, but he said it, not me.

The fact is that I've never, ever been naseous in any car ever prior to the genesis - thats the facts. Never had a passenger get naseuos ever in any other car - thats the facts. Others have had a similar experience - thats a fact. Saying it's the body's fault not the car is ridiculous - akin to blaming the bad road for the inability of the suspension to handle any sort of irregularity.

That is entriely possible - so why keep assuming everyone is exaggerating or deluded?

Give me a Break...... If someone is becoming nauseated it is a function of their body not the car........ some people become nauseated on roller coasters.... most don't.... I have a niece who gets car sick on the way from her house to our house.....I guarantee she is not in a Genesis......It's one thing to say the car has a harsh ride .... its another to say it is causing physical illness....... like I said.... Give me a break

We already agreed previously that the car you used to drive must ride different than mine........ there is no other explanation...... if my car was nauseating me and causing my legs to go numb I would be on here saying what you're saying I suppose........ nothing could be further from the truth regarding my car........ and thus the discrepancy[/QUOTE]

I guarantee you if I rode in your car I would not get nauseated....... I don't have that issue..... but I do know people who do....... I might not like the ride but I wouldn't get sick over it.........By the way do you know what the manufacture date of your car was?

Considering how many people are happy with the ride there has to be more to this than Hyundai built a car with bad suspension........ maybe they have changed something but the only way to know is to track manufacture date

I first test drove a Genesis 4.6 with a tech package back in August, 2008. The car seemed to ride real well but I could not come to terms with the dealer. Waited until January, 2009 and test drove a 4.6 and a 3.8 at another dealership. Both of these cars seemed to ride pretty good and I did not notice any harsh ride. However, I did not want the 4.6 with the tech package so they had to bring in another car with the color I wanted from another dealership. Of course, I did not test drive the new car because I assumed everything would be fine. When I drove it off the lot I notice the new car rode much stiffer than the others. The salesman that drove the car from the previous dealership had no complaints about the ride. The car now has just over 5,000 miles on it and I can tolerate the ride most of the time but it can get on my nerves at times. I would like to see Hyundai install a softer suspension as I am quite certain that there are earlier models out there that have it.

I will get the manufacturer date as well on my car.

I have started a new thread where we can keep track of Manufacture Date vs Suspension........ please post your responses there so we can keep track and maybe we will all get a little smarter

Thanks

Having driven Doug's former Gen and finding it smoother than my 4.6 on one of his problem stretches of interstate, and he agreeing that perhaps my car was worse than his (we swapped), yet me being perfectly happy with my ride, I'd agree with the "eye of the beholder" sentiment.
Bottom line is test drive it extensively. If you like it, buy it. If not, nobody is holding a gun to your head.
All I'd add is to Doug: having gotten rid of your Gen months ago, why are you still here? As a "public service"? To discourage potential owners? To protect your reputation? I really can't figure it out at this point.

Hi Back.......

Having driven the car of one of the ones on here that complains of nausea and leg numbing and stating that the ride was not as was reported by him is the dream of all of us non believers..................

We are non believers because our vehicles behave nothing like what is reported........ And so either there is something wrong with their car or their perception is odd......... Your test drive gives me renewed guts to stand up for the notion that it is a matter of perception........... Any time I have mentioned this in the past I have been shot down right away that perception has nothing to do with it............ It has everything to do with it in my opinion......... and your test drive proves that..........

That's not to say that their perception is wrong........ it is a perception...... odd maybe compared to mine but not wrong.......... As you said........ you have every opportunity to test drive a car as a perpective buyer........ if you don't like it don't buy it......... and if you find you don't like it after driving it a while then sell it and move on...........

I currently have started a survey to try to determine if those complaining of a harsh ride have cars Manufactured at a particular time to see if there is a corelation.......... Check it out people........ especially those who have a problem with the ride......... the survey doesn't work without you..........

I think we are confusing the perception of a harsh ride with suspension failure again. That has happenened on these threads before. If you are used to a cushy boat ride the more sporty tuning of the Genesis might not appeal to you. That is purely a perception issue depending on your expectations. I very much prefer the sporty tuning.

The fact that the car wildly jumps up and down over certain stretches of road is a design flaw of the suspension and that is not a perception issue. The suspension is simply failing to dampen the excitement from the road which is not a function of having a suspension that is too stiff. My dealership was perfectly capable of reproducing that behavior but there is nothing they can do about it because Hyundai North America is basically telling them to pound sand and forcing them to tell that this is behavior as designed.

Hyundai NA is clearly scared of a group action law suit or having the car being declared unsafe (remember the Ford Explorer debacle some years back) but it would take a more coordinated effort to get to that point. No dealership will want a part in that in fear of retribution. Pretty much a no win situation for the early adopters. My best hope at this point is that the 2010 model has a better tuned suspension and they make that available for their early customers.

My 4.6 with Tech package has a manufacturing date of August 25 2008.

Cheers

Thomas

Ok guys... I'm getting nauseated (and I'm sure others as well) just reading the same thing over and over again. You're beating a dead horse, you took this thread and turned it into your own little playground.

If your posts has nothing to do with the thread title then don't post. When new information comes in, I'm sure this thread will relive.

In the meantime, continue to talk about the suspension in the 'other' thread.

Search...

Do you or anyone else happen to know when the new 2010 model will be announced? Many manufacturers have already announced their 2010 lineup. That would put a cap on this thread.

Cheers

Thomas

P.S.: Looks like people have different sources of nausea. Some people get it in their cars others simply from reading about it. Again others might get nauseated by the fact that everytime a new user reports a suspension problem he is being accused of being delusional...

Our Genesis is a great car ride around town at 30 -40 MPH and on the freeways in bumper-to-bumper traffic that my drives every day and so she's not complaining. I've noticed that on one local road there's a large paved patch over old pavement that ends with an aburpt dropoff and our 4.6 tech Genesis really doesn't handle the dropoff well at all. It seems to drop down to the suspension stops and gives you a nasty jolt to the spine. Front shocks seem to be overly weak in the compression mode. This is quite close to the same problem with one of our other cars ('06 GTO) which suffered with it's stock suspension - it was horible with concrete pavement expansion gaps on the I-405 and other S. CA freeways. I went overboard with that car and put extra-firm suspension components on it and it still rode better than stock over expansion joints. It rides like a racecar always, but still doesn't hit you in the a$$ like from the weak OEM shocks allowing the suspension to bottom out. (rear shocks in this case) this GTO also rides stiffly very much like our Genesis (but even more so), in general, over the same local extremely rough (Vasquez Cyn Road) road EXCEPT it doesn't wack your butt on the dropoff. The Genesis does not handle this road well at all. Hyundai can send a test car there and see for themselves. It's one of the worst maintained roads in northern LA county. Located between Bouquet Cyn Road and Sierra Hwy. and mantained by LA county (sort-of). OBTW, it is also rated as one of the most deadly highways in the state.

I'll be here as long as I like because I'm still interested in the topic and would like to be able to revisit this car someday. Could care less what you do or do not understand or who may be disuaded from anything Given you are one of the original troika of deniers I can predict your responses and repeated attempts to stifle discussion (fear?). BTW I never said your car was worse than mine - I did say it was way more (excessively) floaty but did not seem to have the jitteriness of mine.

Well I agree that anyone is free to come and go here - including past owners - but it is discouraging that past owners who didn't like this car only come back here to repeat the same negative story rather than trying to add constructive information.

Hopefully newcomers to this site will take the time to read through the threads and weed out the obvious questionable posters. They (and we) know who they are.

With all due respect to all the messages in this "thread that never dies," It is always unfortunate when an owner feels the need to post something negative. It is even more unfortunate when someone feels as trongly as Doug or any of the others that share his sentiment. Ultimately, it is Hyundai's fault. With the proper customer service and response to issues, Hyundai can manage these complaints and concerns much better before they escalate to this level. Regardless, everyone should be able to voice an opinion, good, bad, indifferent. Comment if you feel you must or ignore it if that works for you.

Doug275,
I feel bad for your experience. You were burned badly. A new 40k car turned out to be undrivable (for you). I don't have any answers or suggestions about how it could have been avoided. As you have said the test drive didn't expose the problems you encountered during ownership. In the end Hyundai couldn't provide satisfaction and you lost a lot of time and money.

Not that it matters, but for me you can continue to retell your story as often as you need to.

I would be very surprised if you did revisit the brand, If I was as dissatisfied as you I wouldn't ever buy from the brand again.

I wish you luck with your future purchases.....

A happy Genesis owner....

Well, when you look at it objectively. Unless negative feedback and solutions to overcome obstacles are posted in forums like this there is very little point to them.

When people go to places like NewEgg or Amazon there is a very strong correlation of what products are being bought vs their ratings. Few people buy a product that has 5 top ratings. A lot better position is a product with 100 ratings with a strong tilt towards positive and some good stories about how problems where dealt with for the cases where there was a problem. In terms of hits on reviews that is what people are clicking on.

The problem is the influence of interested dealers on this board who can't do much about these problems and are resorting to discredit anyone who is not joing into the hurray. In the long run the value of this forum will go down.

No one reads a forum where all the comment are only positive and nobody wants to buy a car where the manufacturer builds a track record of ignoring customers. This is very much a Hyundai issue. Dealers should push hard on Hyundai instead.

Cheers

Thomas

Well said thomaspf - forums serve no purpose unless you hear both sides of the story.

Keep in mind though that this argument continues to rear its ugly head because of one poster's questionable datapoints. Remember, he claimed that his Genny was horrible under all circumstances, regarless of what types of roads he travelled. Yet when the Hyundai rep road with him, all his problems magically disappeared. And when the rep left, his problems re-appeared. He claimed it was raining that day, so maybe the car rides better in the rain.

I'm sorry but that's just too coincidental to be believable - you have to question whether or not he's being truthful. Any why continue to stir it up when it's obvious something doesn't smell right?

Point well taken. Although, from what I've read in these forums, the ride quality is somewhat affected by the passenger weight. So, the added weight of the Hyundai rep, be he 200lbs, might have attributed to the better ride. Some people on this forum have put 200lbs worth of cargo weight in the trunk to improve the ride, and that seemed to help. I'm not trying to dissuade your argument, I'm just offering my own point of view; and that's all it is, a personal opinion. :)

MK -

You are the one who smells fishy - hyundai employee. You are another one of the original troika of deniers who despite any detail I posted continued ad hominum arguments and threatening private emails from day one and continued to grasp at straws rather than just admit some have had a problem. If you actualy read what I and others posted and discussed you'll see that yes what I posted is true - the ride I had with the Hyundai rep had no such ride problems. I had a few other such good rides - mostly it seemed when it was raining and /or warm. I shared ALL that becuase it was so frustrating. This was indeed PART of the problem and part of the frustration and really bad luck on my part. What is so hard to understand about that ?? Prior to that the dealer duplicated the problem but declared it normal. All part of the story.

You clearly need help. and do not send me any threatening emails.

NO, not a Hyundai employee. I've never claimed that or said anything to make anyone believe I work for Hyundai.

You have changed your story. You have always claimed your ride was bad except that magical time the Hyundai rep rode with you.

Look it up.
