  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've heard that the G70 is very maintenance heavy and requires oil changes every 3000 miles or 6 months.

What does the manual say?

3000 miles is the severe schedule, 6k is the normal. this is comparable to my last car and as far as I know, all turbo cars. I looked through my service schedule in the manual and nothing sticks out to me as more than any other car. (except maybe spark plugs, they want those changed out a little sooner than I normally would have in my last car)

My service indicator came on, at 6000km, when I called Genesis, they said I did not require a service until 1 year. (Richmond, BC)

6000km is different than 6k miles. Thats actually at about 3700 miles, which sounds right for them to let you know you might not need it yet. However I would NEVER go more than 6 months between oil changes on a turbo car, no matter how little miles youre putting on it

10,000km for turbo and 12,000km for non turbo Genesis in Canada.

My Audi S5 with the turbo V6 has a 1 year or 10k miles oil change interval. So this seems pretty low to me for oil changes

I do a lot of short distance driving. Less than 4 miles, so it would likely apply for me. Could get expensive.

if youre worried about that, I would recommend staying away from this car. Like any car in this msrp range, you need to budget in increased repair costs, increased maintenance cost just by the fact that the parts are better/more expensive/higher performance. A Honda Civic this car isnt

So, stay with my Audi S5, is what you're saying?

I made an assumption that was wrong, but based on you being concerned with the price of an oil change you have to admit you came off as someone moving up from a lower level car used to low level maintenance. I don’t get how an extra oil change a year, based off your yearly Audi schedule, makes enough of a difference to sway your opinion on the car. sorry for missing that you posted your current car on one of your replies, not trying to be dismissive or anything. I’ll be the first to admit I’m fan-boying hard on this car and a little quick on the gun but I’m trying to provide objectiveness where I can because I honestly think this is a great car and oil change frequency shouldn’t turn anyone off from it

^ +1, this is the service interval i have on file for my G70.
Does Canada use a different oil? My dealership uses a semi synthetic for the g70 but I don’t have a clue how Canada would tell you a different schedule for the same car in the US unless they were maybe using a much higher quality oil. Even then, a yearly oil change on a high strung turbo’d car seems...sketch

Has anyone checked the USA manual yet? I've been too lazy. If nobody has...I can check.

Mine says 6k miles/6 months for the normal schedule

Ok...so that is on par with Canada. I don't get what the issue is.

I’m so sorry guys, genesis USA says 6k miles or 1 year (not 6 months). My fault, I prostrate myself before the faceless internet. Here’s an image of the main page so we can put that to rest. I still think a year between changes is pushing it but I do apologize for the confusion I was causing around thisF99DEF43-BB61-4246-AE5C-37CAD9FE8AB2.webp

I honestly don't think a year is too long. Engines are designed better nowadays...and oils are much better.

My prior few cars...using synthetic...I was doing 7,500 miles...absolutely no issue with that.

Well the traditional wisdom was 3500k miles and then went up to 6k so it’s possible that the line has moved again with technology. In my personal opinion I still think it’s better to be on the safer end and that preventive maintenance is the one thing I don’t want to skimp on. I should also add that I bought this car and am keeping it for 7-10 years so that factors into my decision making and my sense of what’s safe for the car over that long of a term (especially how I drive it).

But the USA relevant part of the manual is up there for anyone to see, so I hope that helps. Follow the manual by all means but it certainly won’t hurt those who will be keeping the car a long time, drive it very aggressively, or live in extreme environments to change it more often on the severe schedule or sooner

One thing worth noting is that the Canadian scheduled maintenance includes full synthetic oil, not conventional.
