If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just got to play with a 2010 V8 w/tech pkg in San Jose, CA. White with brown interior.

Interior Changes:

Electronic Parking brake... has a lever that looks just like a traditional pull-release but you can also push it to engage the brake. To the left of the handle is a "Hill Holder" feature that when pressed will hold the parking brake temporarily until there is forward movement.

Steering wheel button... Now the upper right button (on the surface of the wheel... column of three) has an adaptive cruise control icon.

Touch screen nav... unit is touch screen but the same rotary controller is still present.

Brown leather looks less red and more brown but that could have been me.

Exterior Changes:
The lower grille is now split in three quadrants... the center is open like before, the left side and right side have glossy black panels... the cruise device is under the left one... the right one is there for symmetry.

No other changes... still no badge on hood... H is on trunk and wheels.

Pricing: This car was the V8 w/tech package. The tech pkg included active cruise control. The price after destination was $43,995.

Wasn't able to drive it unfortunately.

I was wondering if the 2010 model was still at the dealership? Assuming that is where you saw it. I've been waiting for the 2010's to look at and test drive. I love the white w/ cashmere int. I called the dealership in Burlingame and they don't have any yet.

Yes, it is sitting on the showroom floor at the dealer in San Jose on Capital Expressway. Gorgeous.

Why in the world does it need a "hill holder" on a car not avaiable with a manual transmission?

I'm somewhat dissapointed that they are adding features that up the price. Sure, it's still a bargain compared to other cars, but the price is what is going to sell the car. The closer it gets to a GS Lexus, M Infiniti etc, the more likely I am to buy one of those cars.

BTW, I had a car with "smart" cruise control. I hated it with a passion (along with rain sense wipers and some of the other new technology).

I agree with the Smart Cruise my wifes min van has this feature and it is a pain in the rear. I think it's more work than plain ole' cruise control

So you expected them to offer more features at the same price? Never gonna happen.

And the Genesis is in no danger of coming anywhere close to the M or GS pricing anytime soon. A base GS350 starts at approx. 4k more than a loaded Genesis V8. The base M35 is approx. $3k more IIRC. Similarly-equipped the difference is easily over $15k.

Looks like the price is up $1000. Just to clarify, they want $2500 for smart cruise on the BMW 3 series.

Reading comprehension 101.... here is what I said "I'm somewhat dissapointed that they are adding features that up the price".

Yes, there is still a significant spread, but it's going to have to stay significant. The dealer near me - which is right next to a Lexus dealer (and is part of a Cadillac dealer) has not sold a Genesis sedan in at least a month based one what I've seen sitting on his lot in that time frame.

I know it's a hell of a car for the money - that's why I'm here and considering the car. But it still has to get over that "I just bought a new car - a Hyundai..." image. My wife is betting me already that I won't get one just because it's a Hyundai.

It's $1000 wasted on something that I don't want - regardless of how much it is on a BMW. I understand that every car might have features I don't want. But when they add that much to the price of the car, and they are a feature that I will NEVER use, its a particularly sore point.

I had the same struggle with my wife and the vehicles in our neighborhoods but now that we own one (though she won't admit it) she does like to drive it, as evidence by the volume setting in the car after she has driven it.

I suspect that the 2010 models with the new suspension tuning and more precise steering are going to sell quite well.

It's roughly a 2.3% price increase over the 2009, while offering more feature content. I *get* what you're saying, I just think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. FWIW, I would fully expect things like the adaptive cruise control to be defeatable so you aren't forced to use it. If you don't need these things may I suggest a Premium or Premium w/ Nav model? The Tech model exists for those who like their gadgets and are willing to pay for them.

Was at the dealership in San Jose today. The sticker price on the 2010 was $ 43,985 for the v8 fully loaded. They just unloaded a car carrier truck w/all 2010's

I guess you are getting all those 2010's out in the West Coast.

As for 2009's, my selling dealer, Orlando Hyundai has 6 or 7 sitting on the lot. (2 V8's)
My closest dealer, Jenkins Hyundai in Leesburg has 5 or 6 sitting on the lot. Again, these are all 2009's. (Jenkins still has bump-up stickers on the windows - lots of luck)

Oh, so I get to give up the good stereo, cooled seats etc so I don't have to pay $1000 for the adaptive cruise???

For what it's worth, I've owned a totally gut loaded M45 Infiniti that did have all the stuff - including the adaptive cruise. As I stated in one of my posts, I understand that there is no perfect car out there. I'm just stating my opinion on what I think of having to pony up for a feature that damn near nobody likes.

I don't know if you've ever driven a car with the adaptive cruise - it's not a matter of liking to play with gadgets - I actually do. But it's one gadget that after about 10 miles will more than likely drive you nuts. But each to their own opinion - I'm okay with the fact that maybe I'm the oddball.

I hope you are right. But I've been a huge car nut for over 40 years and am pretty good at understanding the dynamics that make a car sell or not sell. I think the jury is still out on the Hyundai.

Hyundai is about as low on the status totem pole as you can get. Even though $40,000 is a bargain for what you get, it's still a $40,000 Hyundai, and not a terribly good buying experience at your local dealer spending 98% of their time hawking $15,000 economy cars.

Please uderstand that I'm not trying to be the snob or argue about the merits of the car. I'm here because I'm genuinely interested in one (I have about 5 months left on my CTS lease). I'm just stating what I think the realities are that Hyundai is facing.

I have never driven a car with the adaptive cruise control. I have an 08 GS350, but would have had to order the car from Japan to get the adaptive cruise control. In theory it should be GREAT !!! I take it from your postings that they really have not perfected the software that has your car track the car in front of it? Can you please elaborate on why it is not an improvement over traditional cruise control?

Thanks.

A variety of reasons - all of which happen under certain circumstances.

1) you are cruising along at 70 (or whatever) on a fairly open freeway. Stereo on, just kind of enjoying the ride. Somewhere along the line you realize you are following someone doing about 60 and you have no idea how long you've been going that fast.

2) somebody passes you and pulls back into your lane. Not really, really close, but close enough that your car suddenly hits the brakes, even though the car that pulled back in is going 5mph faster than you and is no threat to hit him.

3) you are cruising along and the guy in front of you takes an exit that has a gentle exit angle. as he slows down, your car thinks he is still on the freeway and....you guessed it, your car brakes for him.

These things become fairly constant occurances that if you had a regular cruise control on you would have simply adjusted for.

In instance number one, you would have realized you were coming up on the slower moving car and you would have passed him.

In instances 2 and 3 you would have done nothing except maintain your 70 mph cruise because they were no threat to you safety.

I basically agree with you, but Hyundai has made strides in recent years, especially with the automotive press. The bottom line is that they still live or die on the Sonata, etc, so they don't have to sell that many of the Genesis for it to successful.

Eventually, if Hyundai keeps improving, time will heal past sins. I am old enough to remember when Toyota (like all things from Japan) was considered to be junk. There are fewer people each year who remember the Hyundai fiasco when they first sold cars in the US.

I remember a Korean junk brand (in electronics) called Goldstar. They changed their name and are now LG.

The "hill holder" feature is actually quite nice. I first experienced it on my BMW 750Li and I love it.. I don't have to keep my foot on the brake - I can just relax my leg. It's really nice - especially when in lots of traffic. Next it was available on the Lexus LS460L and now on the Genesis...

As for switching to a Genesis from a CTS.. I guess you're a member of www.cadillacowners.com correct? The new CTS is a great car. And Cadillac service IS really nice. The only thing you MAY regret with Hyundai is service.. The Genesis will make you happy, though. Just look into your Hyundai dealership and make sure you're going to get decent service. Read reviews.. I like the CTS and I'm a certified Cadillac fanatic - but I'd take the Genesis over the Caddy because I personally feel it's a better vehicle.
