  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

while on a 300 mile trip last week, suddenly, it seemed that all the dash lights came on, like when starting car. Car continued to run. I pulled over and stopped the engine. Restarted, went on my way for another 50 miles or so, same thing. Pulled over again but did not turn off engine. Studied lights, not all were on seems just any light that had anything to do with brakes. ie. the red parking light, abs, etc, smart cruse. I can't think of all the lights that came on. stopped engine, restarted. completed trip. went to autozone for free reading. nothing. Hasn't happened since. 2010 Hyundai Genesis 4.6

2010 4.6 doesn't have the radar cruise HECU module (a 2011 feature as I recall?). But you could have a glitchy wheel rotation sensor or related wiring issue. If the car loses connection with a sensor, it will fault all systems that rely on it like ABS, stability control, electronic parking brake (if so equipped), etc. and shut them down, lighting all of their trouble lights.

Typically these will stay in a faulted state until you stop/restart the car. On next restart, if the fault is not detected, then they'll reset. They may store a code, or they may not. But you won't seee any codes on a ELM327 $20 OBD2 reader as they typically can only read the standard ECU codes, but not the other modules such as the ABS/ESC/brake, TCU, airbag, TPMS, BCM, head unit, etc. You'd need either a Hyundai dealer to check those specific modules with their system, or a professional mechanic with a similarly capable scanner like one of these:

As suggested in the other "trouble lights" thread, try removing the negative battery cable for 30 mins to let the system hard-reset. This may or may not help, but with many modern cars it often does.

thanks for the info about the scanner. that is most likely why autozone did not see the codes. As for radar cruise, if you mean the smart cruise feature that automatically slows you down when the car in front slows, My 2010 has that feature. In fact, I thought that was causing the problem so I turned off cruise. Happened anyway. I have been driving the car over a week now, no problem. I think the last stop/restart did the trick. If it repeats, I'll have my pro mechanic check it as the dealer charges at least $50.00 just to check and does not remove charge if they fix. Good info.

I just bought a 13 R spec and I drove it 300 miles from the dealer and the ABS, ESC lights went on. I thought it was just a glitch but I brought it to the dealer and it’s a $3k ABS module!!! The good news is I found one used fur $250. My question is do you think the dealer knew about this before selling? I talked to the previous owner and she said there were no lights on dash. Wouldn’t the dealer check fir codes before buying the car?

I mean it could have happened for the first time when I saw it, but that’s a hell of a coincidence!

I trust the original owner over the dealer and he said it was OK. It can happen. It may not have shown a code even if it was checked. Sure, it sucks when it happens to you, but would you question it if it was a flat tire? Glad you found a used one though.
