  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys! Anyone have any issues with their 5.0 wheel paint fading around edges of wheel and chipping where lug holes are? Is there a remedy or rather a way to refinish them? Or am I better off with new wheels. Bought preowned and it had 36k miles on it so I dunno if warranty covers it?! Please let me know guys. Thanks!

We've had four so far (an '09 and three '15's) and all of them have had wheel chipping issues to some degree (drive through car washes are murderous to paint and wheels, which is my guess as to what's happening with the previous owners).

And that just gives you a reason to get some much better looking wheels.

Chipping around the lug holes is careless tool handling. No, that would not be covered.

My original OEM wheels (9.0" 49 offset rear, 8.5" 40 offset front) are to become winter wheels only on my 2015 5.0.......new 19 in wheels (8.5" 40 offset) for spring/summer/fall to replace; non-staggered setup....

Why did you choose to go non staggered?

Well cost was part if it...staggered setup ws going to cost an additional $900 cdn..With four similar tires .I will be able to rotate tires as well.....there is no functional reason to have a staggered setup as far s I can tell... I am looking at installing 19" TSW Suzuka rims with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500 tires (245-40-19)

Too bad that the 19' 275 rears probably wouldn't fit the front. It'd be kinda cool to have 275's all around on the 5.0.

I have noticed that most of my wheel paint needs minor repair(fine scratches and some peeling) and/or are badly chipped/scratched from curb damage. Therefore, I will powder coat my stock wheels if I do not buy some aftermarket wheels. Maybe a chrome-like PVD finish for some bling or maybe just a hyper silver color similar to stock. Powder coating usually last longer than paint on wheels by being more scratch resistant.

What would a black gloss powder coat go for on stock rims? Or something like factory color but a powder coat?

It's not cheap. A quick search estimates $400-700 per wheel, so you could simply buy another set of wheels unless you were doing something highly customized.
Yea I saw a set of 4 staggered wheels for 5.0 with black gloss powder coating for just over a thousand for set

My dealer refinished mine, they look great.

Well, I just called a local powder coating shop for the custom car scene in my area and they charged me $125 dollars a wheel. I will just go with that to fix my curbed and chipped stock wheels if the shop has a nice finish in stock that I like.

Well that seems very reasonable! I hope they do you a good job on your wheels. Send some pics after you get them done.

Yes, that's cheap. Hopefully, they'll look like new when finished.
