Exhaust upgrades- first gen 5.0 Rspec

Hello,
I am looking to change the sound of my Genesis.
It is just too quiet. I cant even tell if its on sometimes.
I had the resonator deleted by a muffler shop.
Barely made any difference.
I have seen the magnaflow exhaust system. But I really dont want to spend 2k on just sound.
Has anyone found a custom set up that sounds good and is cheaper?

Any suggestions are appreciated

It's all the same size piping hangers are same location only difference is exhaust tips(there are 4 bolts that hold the bumper exhaust cut outs in place can easily be removed when OEM mufflers are removed) this allows quad tips without cutting anything and the magnaflow for 4.6(mf16497)from the x pipe to the mufflers it's a straight pipe where on the 5.0 version (mf15059)(instead it looks like 2 small litte flanged resonators that you could remove and put test pipes in anyway. 15059 design to use OEM bumper exhaust cutouts. I installed myself drove to a buddies and he welded on different tips.But I mean honestly say he spends another 200 on install 650 compared to the 1600 msrp is still a great deal

I've done the install on 2 different genesis sedans and had no issues on either. i know the 15059 will fit on the 3.8 and I have the 16497 on my 2nd 3.8. I checked specs on magnaflows site.

16947 tips are design for 09 to 11 bumper must extend an inch or 2 to clear bumper can be done by any shop for probably 50 60 bucks

I went with 3.5inch quads if i had to do it again I'd go 4inch to fill the cut outs a bit more.

I have had the Dynomax VT (no longer made) and now just replaced those with Flowmaster FX series. They are a similar straight through design (not baffled inside like others)
There is ZERO drone and they sound great. NOT they typical "flowmaster" sound. These give a nice sound normally but really scream when you get on it. Just like the Dynomax ones did before they basically fell apart inside - again why they are no longer produced
I HIGHLY recommend Flowmaster FX series
Cost $100 per side installed

receipt says the 71226
they mounted where it is not flush like stock. meaning it is at an angle

Thanks. I originally had the Magnaflow catback but couldn't deal with the drone so I sold it. Was thinking of going back to it but install a heimholz resonator in place of the secondary cats.

Maybe these Flowmaster cans are an alternative.

give them a try. $200-$250 for both installed... again not the typical flowmaster sound or drone. they are not near as loud as what you had before. but a good option with no drone
and good to see you are still around here - do you miss your TL any?

Sounds like a good option. No drone is key.
Yeah definitely miss the TL. I had her 20 years just didn't have the time to deal with upkeep. My son turned 16 last year and considered letting him have it but didn't work out.

I highly recommend simply bypassing the last muffler and not even bothering with anything else. It took a garage 30 min to weld an exhaust bypass valve for me then I connected the wires through the trunk to the battery. Now I have an on/off switch for the usual silent mode (I also soundproofed most surfaces on top of the stock materials), or a much louder, deeper, fuller sound with a bit or crackle/pop.

It's cheaper than replacing your exhaust, it sounds great to me, and I can go back to silent mode and enjoy my music anytime. I found that having a loud exhaust all the time would be annoying, especially for my girlfriend when she drives the car.

I wonder if it makes a difference. When closed, it's essentially a stock exhaust, and when open, it's still better than all the people going with straight pipes or no mufflers, resonators, h pipe...

I was at the shop today. After 30min the guy told me that these will not fit.
He said that the inlet and outlet need to be on opposite sides.
The 71226 has one end in the middle. Does anyone know the model of the one I need?
He also mentioned that I could get round mufflers and put them where the resonator is/was.

I bought those and brought them to the muffler shop. They still could not fit them. They said the output ends up to high in the bumper.

Sending those mufflers back costs almost as much as the muffler.

The muffler shop recommended getting round ones and putting them where the resonator was, and deleting the original mufflers.
Any thoughts?

I see how that would be easier to install in some ways because the middle resonator would be straight through. Personally I was thinking about just doing a muffler delete and leaving the middle resonator. If you started with the muffler delete, you could always replace the resonator later as well if you wanted to. I just don't understand why you started off trying to replace the mufflers and now you're trying to delete them altogether.

Is it one bypass valve on the midpipe or two bypass valves before each muffler? Which bypass valve did you use?
