  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

Joined the site about a week ago, but decided to refrain from posting until I took deliver. With things as crazy as they have been, there was no guarantee that would happen as planned. Fortunately, it did, and because I took delivery out of state, I had 5 hours of interstate time to sort out the car. Clearly the timing was not optimal, but leases end, and I've grown tired of loan/lease payments. This is the first vehicle I've paid cash for and had no interest in extending my lease beyond it's end.

The car is a 2016 3.8 with HTRAC - I went into service later in 2016 so it still has 1.5 years of bumper-bumper and over 75,000 miles on the 10/100000. Initial impressions are that it is probably the most "complete" car I've ever owned. It's not the fastest, the best handling, or the most visually appealing. It's not even the largest - my end-of-lease vehicle was a Ford F-150. It is without question the most comfortable and arguably the most well rounded, and with 3 teenage boys, I needed something with space. Plus, its nice to have something that fits in the garage again :)

Experimented with the various drive modes. Wound up in eco on the highway, but I like Sport for daily driving where the road has curves. Car was serene and composed at speed, and while the one concern I had about the car was power in the 3.8, I found that to be MORE than adequate for my driving needs - It's not the G37 Sport I had, but three "big for their age" 13 year olds do not fit comfortably in that car - it was tight when they were 10 :)

Things I like: Power, driving modes/comfort, quality, panoramic sunroof, handling (for a large car surprisingly agile), size/space. The factory nav works very well but I have other plans...

Things I haven't figure out yet: Infotainment - the audio sounds great, but the overall organization of all the features isn't the most intuitive IMO. Not crazy about mirrors that turn down in reverse. Fairly anemic exhaust not from outside the car but given it's intended purpose, thats kind of nit picking

Things I NEED to figure out: Apple Carplay. I've read a lot of posts here - it would appear that I have to buy the upgrade now. Thats not a big deal - I have to determine the current software version (I suspect it's pretty old and never updated) and then work through the installation process. Any help anyone can offer here would be great. Is it really just as easy as paying, downloading, formatting, and installing?

That's a lot - more than enough for now. Looking forward to being a part of the community here. Stay safe everyone!

Congrats on the acquisition.

I think the 10yr/100k warranty is only for the first owner.

That can be turned off. Whichever of the L or R mirror buttons is illuminated, press it again (so that is is not lit), and the mirrors will not tilt down when the car is put in reverse.

As long as you don't have a model with the Ultimate package, then I think you should be good on CP.

Also, your car model type in your account details is incorrect. It is shown as a Genesis G80. You don't have a G80. You have a Hyundai Genesis sedan (or "2G Genesis Sedan 2015-2016" in this website's parlance.

Congratulations on your new Genesis. Welcome to the forum

Congratulations and just to answer a few questions you may have in the future...

(1) If you have a sunroof it's likely creaky. There's a service bulletin where you put PDMS on the edges of the sunroof and that really fixed the creaking for me.

(2) If the car has lived in a sunny climate. a number of the soft plastic components are likely crumbling. These include the trunk handle and the third brake light housing. I fixed the trunk handle with a bicycle repair kit and the brake light with weatherstripping.

(3) Some (many?) of these cars have drivetrain noise, generally occurring from about 28-38 mph. It's a fluttering for a lot of people. My theory is it's a bearing warming up, as it's much less prevalent in warm weather and goes away after 10 minutes of driving. Some owners have had success by replacing the prop shaft. Others swear it's caused by tires.

(4) Head units tend to go out on these cars. Hopefully if your goes, you can get it replaced for free by Hyundai, but be warned that the head unit costs $2500.

(5) if your backup camera goes out, a known issue is the harness in the trunk causing it to fail, and the solution is to repair the harness.

Enjoy it it's a very nice car.
Nice comfortable quite ride.
Seats are very comfortable.

WELCOME!

Congrats on the car, welcome to the forum. The radio may be upgradable to use AA/CP but not sure. There is info on the forum.

On the warranty, unless you bought a CPO or extended warranty, the 10/100k warranty is only for the first owner.

I came from a 2009 G37 sedan, I know the feeling! I miss the power but at my age, adding one second to my 0-60 time (5.4 to 6.6) is NBD. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new purchase. You will be able to find most/all answers to any of your questions in this forum. As far as Car Play goes, you need to determine which trim you have. If you have matte wood finishs, bigger screen with no plastic border around it and a jog dial on your center console it means that you have Ultimate and cannot upgrade to Car Play. Otherwise you are good to go.
As far as the sound goes, you will probably get the feeling at some point like most folks here that the bass could be better. I created tutorial for dummies(like myself) on how to add amplifier to your stock subwoofer. It drastically improves your music experience. Link can be found in my signature. Enjoy your new toy!

It is CPO - I have the whole warranty remainder and it went through the checklist process. For infotainment, I have the smaller screen with no jog dial - already talked to the folks at Mapnsoft to confirm everything - just have to wait another couple of weeks for the new version.

Stereo/Audio is fine for now - I'm not a bass heavy guy. I listen to a lot of jazz so quality of bass is much more important than quantity :) Its still way better than what I had in my F-150.

No creaks or rattles yet. Car seems solid top to bottom - just wish I had more excuse to drive it!

I came out of a G37s sedan too! My 5.0 Ultimate is a much better cruiser.

The G37S was pretty much the perfect car when the kids were smaller and spent most of the time in the minivan. You could really rail that car and it would beg for more. I'm acutely aware of the weight/size of the 3.8, but its no slouch and the comfort is in another league. Good trade-off for now....

The G37 really was a great car. Bought mine as a dealer demo in 2009, just loved it and kept perfect care of it. Drove low miles, sold it at about 83k miles to the first person who looked at it (as all my cars have sold). Still miss it. 100% reliable.

Loving the G80, kinda bought in a hurry, maybe I should have gone for an older one that was loaded instead of a base, new one. Only have 3,200 miles on it since mid November.

Yeah... I occasionally miss the G37. It was fun to drive the snot out of it. I kept mine till about 107K - it did end up needing a water pump ($$$ because it was driven by the timing chain & buried in the engine). Don't miss being beat up by it on Houston's cratered roads though.

Yes... with America's roads in as poor shape as ever, I swore my next vehicle would be an SUV that could handle it. Somehow I ended up with the G80!

Houston roads are especially bad - The Northeast has better roads than here! Guess that's why so many guys run around in Ford Raptors...!

It's hard to believe the roads in the northeast are in better shape than Houston's roads. I never been in Houston.. I know first hand that New Jersey roads are horrible. That tells me that Houston's roads are really crap! Bad roads can beat the crap out of your car. Nothing worse than seeing a big a$$ pot hole and not being able to avoid it and you just feel it jar your brain..... Stay safe.

Now imagine that with very low profile tires.
Needless to say you will be repairing rims soon.
Like here in NY.

I know exactly what you mean. There would be potholes that would just swallow your car in Jersey. I know New York is not any better. How much $ is the gas in New York Ernie3647?

Was anxious to see my self. It was the lowest I've ever gassed up my G70 for $2.79 / 93 octane that may not seem low for some of you but before that the lowest was $3.08 remember this NY.
