  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Only have 30k miles on vehicle. Just installed new balanced set of tires. Vehicle drifts to the right on freeway.
A year ago I had dealer do an alignment because of strong drift to the right. Still drifted following the alignment and had to return to the dealership where additional work was performed which reduced the drift significantly but did not eliminate. Service manager claimed alignment was done to specs and that a pull/drift to the right is normal.
Is that true?

I had exactly the same situation about five years ago - drift to the right - alignment at the dealership - reduced drift to the right.

But then I started using summer wheels in summer (OEM rims with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S) and winter wheels in winter (aftermarket rims with Blizzak winter tires). And I forgot about drift to the right probably because it disappeared. I am not sure about the reason.

I also had the Michelin Pilot Sport AS4 (UHP All Season) installed. The drift did improve but a small amount remains.
I never had heard in all my years of driving what the Hyundai Service manager stated "it's normal that the alignment will cause a drift to the right"!

I've been told that a very small drift to the right is put into most cars in US so if driver is inattentive, car will move to the right side of the road instead of over the centerline. Also most highways have a crown at the center of the road so cars have a tendency to drift to the right. A good alignment specialist can adjust any drift out, but then it will be slightly "out of spec".

After some research with google, it appears that an adjustment to ”castor” in the alignment procedure will eliminate the drift. But then it will cause the alignment to be out of the mfr.’s specs!

Based on a google search, it appears that an alignment specialist would have to adjust the "castor" to eliminate drift. Since it would then be outside the mfr's specs, I doubt the dealership would do it.
