Severe Jolt During Normal Driving

Hey so my subject is describing an issue I have been experiencing for several weeks. Car is in the shop as we speak. I’m not so much asking any of you for your guess at what the issue is, I’m just very curious if any of you ever experienced it. It started as a simple total stall while idling. It started back up and several weeks went by w/o issue. Then during a fairly slow 45mph drive I experienced a Severe jolt. Like a Large pot hole or a Heavy slam on the brakes for only a split second. It has done this 4 times and each time, I received a quick flash of the check engine light. Also nearly each time when I stopped and was idling, it stalled again. Started right back up each time. The dealership changed my transmission fluid and sent me home saying that’s it. That is not it, still has the problem and it’s getting worse. Drive it right back and I’m waiting for a call. Again, just curious if anyone else has experienced this. Thanks

Hard to say Let the shop check it good with a high powered diagnostic scan tool not any regular scanner though I have experienced something like that before when I used to own a 2012 R Spec V8 Sedan in 2017 but the stall didn't actually come from the transmission but rather the engine It had something to do with the spark plug firing order

Well as much as I’d like to hear at least Someone had it happen, I’m glad to know that they didn’t. It’s an awful awful feeling. I just hope while they’re driving it to experience it, it doesn’t cause other harm

I have a 2012 R-Spec with 152K kms and recently I lost the functionality of my Adaptive Cruise Control Distance Sensor (Part No. 96400 3M200). I replaced it with a used one found in the State. At replacement time I was told by the Canadian Mechanics that it would not work due to the facts that distance measurements are different KM/M. Can someone confirm that statement?? Cheers

At replacement time I was told by the Canadian Mechanics that it would not work due to the facts that distance measurements are different KM/M. Can someone confirm that statement?? Cheers

I don't see why it's shouldn't work if you had it replaced with the same exact part number Just stick it in It will work By the way you can do that yourself You really don't need a mechanic for something simple like that By the way I have 4 smart cruise control distance sensors all from 4 different Genesis Sedans I switched them around and they all worked beautifully

I had this experience a short time ago. The problem lay in the instrument cluster. The sudden jolt only occurred while the ACC was activated. My cluster was replaced and no more issues arose.

Wow I was just thinking about that!! That and all of the bumper sensors. But the cluster huh? That’s bizarre. Thanks, I’ll let the dealership know. I’ll disable that feature though if I can.

I posted a while ago about my cluster turning into a Christmas tree. I got a couple of jolts before shutting off the ACC. My high beams wouldn't work with the cruise on. Hope that the cluster doesn't have to be replaced unless it's warrantied. I got an extended warranty and paid $50... The cluster cost $1850.00!!!! Best wishes. Just a last thought: now I know what a jolt feels like, especially at 80mph!!

Do you recall how it was diagnosed? (These days it seems like you need to help the dealership anyway that you can)

According to the Hyundai repair manuals mechanics are required by rule of thumb to listen to the customer complaints with undivided attention in order to diagnose and repair problems It was very amusing when I read that

My service writer keeps texting me nothing yet, nothing yet, we drive it and it won’t happen for us. I’m sick of this already. This isn’t how you fix a serious issue. It does it to me all of the time and that renders the car undrivable to me. Would you be able to give me an approximate date and the name of your dealership? I really need to get to the bottom of this ASAHP.

Did you ever experience the sudden harsh jolt and did the new sensor correct your issue?

Micro second of like slamming on the brake. The serv engine light “flashes” and goes out the quickly as well

Do you notice if your engine revs dip when this happens? This happened in my Mazda 6 at lower speed (e.g. coming to a stop light). There was a bad coil pack that caused a misfire. However, electric issues, fuel pumps, transmission slips and more can cause this behavior.

I bought one of the cheap ODB scanners (Bluedriver) to use on my 2006 Mazda 6. While this does not replace a higher end scan tool, you can at least see for yourself the various codes being sent.

Also, you said you had your car in the shop. What this a dealer, Hyundai shop, major chain?

Anytime you have a tough problem in a car, taking to a dealer may be better. I don't think dealers are any better than others at routine repairs, but with difficult problems, their experience can help.

I live in New Castle,PA; north of Pittsburg. If it comes to that you might call Preston Hyundai (833 795 1511) and speak to Tom in service. He'll remember the issue.
Running into a wall is a better description.
PS: only happens with the ACC activated
