What was the cause of failure? I would ask since you are entitled to that information.Just got a call with a $6,000 price to replace the transmission. Dealer will not offer any goodwill service & advised me to take that up with corporate.
Probably only performed a scan on the TCU. Doubt they even opened the transmission pan. What was the cause of failure? I would ask since you are entitled to that information.
Again, the TCM should have displayed an indication(code)during the failure like over-heating or erratic gear changes that could point to a failed pump or friction band issue.Probably only performed a scan on the TCU. Doubt they even opened the transmission pan.
I echo everyone else, contact Hyundai/Genesis directly to request goodwill assistance. It just seems easiest to swap the transmission out with a factory rebuilt unit. Might need to replace the drive shaft and linkages as well.
I just talked to the Hyundai service advisor who stated that there were no codes stored in the computer for this problem. I asked her specifically if there was anything that was stored in the vehicle diagnostics center of the vehicle that could possibly give insight as to what happened. The only thing that I was offered wasHi Mikebrooks,
Sorry to hear about your issue. I would definately find out why the transmission failed before calling corporate office for goodwill. This will help guide the conversation you have with them. Also, I know it's a pain, but could you get a second opinion? I've never heard of the G2 Genesis sedan transmission going out this early, with such low mileage. Like the other posters wrote above, perhaps it's another issue that caused the transmission to lock up? Keep us updated, and good luck to you.
When this happened, the engine was running fine. The car bucked terribly like I had been hit pretty hard in the rear. Tires squealed for 1/10 second or so kinda like speed shifting from 2nd to 3rd. After the car locked up, I could put in into gear (acted like it was in neutral when I pressed on the accelerator) but the car wouldn't move forward or reverse even with assistance from me trying to push it off the road even in neutral. When the wrecker arrived, he had to drag the car on the flatbed as it was still siezed up in neutral. When we arrived at the dealership to drop off the car, he had to place oil on the flatbed & jerk the flatbed back & forth to make the car come down. The next day, I went back up there to get my belongings & cranked the car & put into drive. Car just rolled forward like in neutral. It will remain in place if the selector is set to P. Any other gear, & it is free to roll with a push in either direction. Engine accelerates fine without any resistance if the car is in any gear (car remains stationary though). I'm open to questions btw.Mike, Something doesn't make sense to me. I have just a couple questions.
Can you start the engine?
If yes, can you put it into gear and it will idle?
If yes, can you accelerate the engine at all?
The lack of error codes makes me think the differential may be locked up. Rear brakes locked up. Parking brakes locked up.
I called corporate 2 days ago & followed up with a very nice email this morning. My car still sits at the dealer. They have not mentioned to me that a remedy is available for the recall either.Man that sucks, I would definitely call corporate and ask for support on the parts, at a minimum.
Still sitting at the shop. I had a co-worker that called a friend that was a service adviser at the Toyota dealership who used to work as a service adviser at the Hyundai dealership. He was able to get my price reduced from $6,000 to $3,700 otd. The warranty is 12/12K. I visited the dealershiip this past Friday & started crunching numbers with them. They offered my $13K for my Genesis. After doing very quick math, I laughed. Sales lady reminded that my car is without a transmission & not worth much like that. I've not heard anything from corporate yet & hope to today or tomorrow before I make a decision.Mike B, any updates? Is your car still sitting at the dealer?
Well, $3700 OTD sounds like good deal for a like new replacement transmission to be honest. I paid about $2100+ taxes to get my 2006 Cadillac Escalade with 236k miles transmission rebuilt.Still sitting at the shop. For brand new, sound like a good deal. Hurts at that price, but still a decent price. The replacement is a new crate transmission from what the service manager told me. Looks like the way to go. Was giving it another day or 2 to see if corporate would reach out to me. Seems like I have been without my Gen for months now & it's only been just over a week since it died.
If they get it and install it for $3700, that's a good deal. Be better if it was free though. The replacement is a new crate transmission from what the service manager told me. I agree considering that is a reduction from $6,000 with a phone call from a service manager of the Toyota dealership (not affiliated). If they get it and install it for $3700, that's a good deal. Be better if it was free though.
Local highly recommended transmission shop quoted $2,800 for a slightly used (325 miles) transmission to replace mine. He mentioned that it's very likely that the cooling system is now contaminated (transmission cooler inside of radiator) & would need to be flushed & pressure tested. He mentioned that this price was much less than the $8000-$9000 that the dealer was gonna charge to replace the trans. I told him what the final price was from the dealer with a new one & he said that I should probably go that route.Just received a call from Corporate. Long story short, they won't provide any goodwill assistance other than what the independent dealer has offered. The lady stated that it is up to the dealer to decide whether or not to offer that service. I guess it will be $3,700. If this is really the truth, I shall be grateful to the dealer for offering to reduce the price (which includes the diagnostic fee) as they didn't have to discount at all. Now, the decision whether to keep the car or sell it after this remains. Looking at what used cars are selling for now, it appears that I can sell this car for between $1,000-$2,000 more than what I paid for it which will put me into a more reliable car & help recoup some of my repair cost. Decisions....
I'm being told by the dealership that it is a new one that includes a 12month/12k mile warranty. I will make sure that the receipt at least states it as new. The original cost was $6,000 without any goodwill assistance, & I did specifically verbally make sure that the reduction in price still was to include a new transmission. Are you sure the $3700 transmission is new. Sound more like what you pay for a good rebuilt one.
The same exact thing happened to me last August 2020 without any warning no warning lights or anything like The transmission just went out and I am in rush-hour traffic on the 405 going north I had to get it towed back to Genesis of Southbay They had it for five days and then told me the car is out of warranty.I was at 70,000+ miles on the odometer and I believe the factory warranty is 60,000 for the second owner so I was 10,000 miles out of the warranty and Hyundai was trying to charge me $6000+ to get it fix luckily for me I got an extended warranty which covered the $6000+ for a new transmission including installment at an independent mechanic shop that was listed on my warranty papers. The crazy thing also they were a couple of other Hyundai Including another 2015 Genesis having their transmission replaced or fixed.Damn. The transmission failed at only 67k miles? Hyundai should replace it or help out due to Hyundai recommending no maintenance service or checks on the transmission under normal driving conditions.
However, a mechanical failures can happen at any time; hence factory warranties. Do your car have any check engine lights? If so, I would check the codes to see what exactly failed.
