First thing I would do is check the settings on the mirror switches. Easy to bump them accidently and turn that feature off.side mirrors not folding in. what to do?
I try not to use mine... because of the little plastic gears inside inevitably will go Bye-Bye!Honestly I’ve gotten to the point I don’t worry about whether they fold in anymore....
I was kinda surprised that even the fuel door was plastic - just like the wife's Kia Soul!Yah, kinda surprising that they use such crappy cheap plastic gears on mirrors that are supposed to fold up every time you enter or exit your vehicle. Perticulary on a car costing in the $50,000 range.
I have H.O model trains with gears better than these mirrors have.
that have lasted for years , gears that have hundreds of hours of constant running time on them.![]()
But it really gives me the confidence from a distance that i locked the doors.Honestly I’ve gotten to the point I don’t worry about whether they fold in anymore....
Yeah, but you can replace them with metal gears. I just fixed my driver side gears today. Took longer than expected, but I could probably do it in 30 minutes if I had to do it again.I try not to use mine... because of the little plastic gears inside inevitably will go Bye-Bye!
How did u do that? Where did u get the parts? I really wanna fix mine. Help please.Yeah, but you can replace them with metal gears. I just fixed my driver side gears today. Took longer than expected, but I could probably do it in 30 minutes if I had to do it again.

I don't know of any way to fold them separately, short of forcing them by hand. It sounds like a fault/defect to me.Giving this the old necro-bump. New car finally got here. Passenger mirror doesn't seem to want to unfold with either the switch or center/auto setting. Is there something stupid I'm doing wrong, or should they both fold/unfold together? The drivers side does, passenger doesn't.
That was gonna be my next question -- is there a way to manually unfold it?I don't know of any way to fold them separately, short of forcing them by hand. It sounds like a fault/defect to me.
My wife had a Kia that had the same auto folding mirrors, and she forgot to fold them before a car wash once, and it knocked one closed. It scared me, but it actually didn't do any damage, and the auto folding still worked correctly after that. Due to that, I ASSUME, that it is okay to force them by hand. That was gonna be my next question -- is there a way to manually unfold it?
I'd wondered if there was like an Allan wrench hole in the bottom or something to manually wind it out. Need step is to try some (gentle) manual persuasion. I have the feeling, coming from 2000s era cars, that this car will have a bit of a learning curve, lol.My wife had a Kia that had the same auto folding mirrors, and she forgot to fold them before a car wash once, and it knocked one closed. I think that the thread below says the most about what is known about these mirrors.I'd wondered if there was like an Allan wrench hole in the bottom or something to manually wind it out. This is the most likely culprit and I suspect that's what's wrong with mine - although my driver's side mirror does something totally weird...I think that the thread below says the most about what is known about these mirrors.

How to: Genesis sedan Power mirror gear replacement
So I had to change out my mirror gear and figured I would do a write up on it since it seems to be a fairly common issue as these cars age. This is for those experiencing the clicking when trying to fold/unfold power mirrors. I tried my best to get as many pictures as possible, admittedly I did...genesisowners.com
I went out and flopped the mirror back open by hand -- did not take any force to do. But you could hear the motor spinning, like you described. No crunching gears, just the sound of a little electric motor whirring. This is the most likely culprit and I suspect that's what's wrong with mine - although my driver's side mirror does something totally weird...
Moves normally but when it gets to the closed postion, the motor keeps running until I cut off the power.... Seems if the gear is totally stripped, it would stay stationary and just make a bunch of noise.
That is so awesome to share your experience and skill with everyone…thanks so much.Replacement Gear

You'll also want to get some grease to put onto the gear before you close it back up. Took me maybe 1.5 hours to do, but I could get it done in 30 minutes now.
